I have been at HP for 11 months with very few publishing problems. This past week, I've had THREE of my new hubs idled. Two of them were product reviews for the contest, one was political in nature. When the first one was idled, I contacted HP and basically was given no info except to check the learning center. I saw nothing there that would apply to any of these hubs. I have re contacted them for further guidance, but doubt it will come. Anybody else having this issue? Any advice or input? Let me know, please...this is pretty upsetting.
I had two go idle this morning; one 5 months old and one nearly two years. I was a little surprised at the newer one, but have been expecting that from the old one.
When you say "new", how long had they been Featured?
One was featured for one day, the others never made it to featured status...despite the fact that I honestly could not find anything wrong with them either grammatically, structurally or content wise. It happened with another hub also, but when I dropped a word out of the subject, it went back on immediately and is now OK. I wish HP would be specific so that appropriate corrections could be made by those of us who try so hard to follow the guidelines.
I suggest you email them about the one that was featured for one day. That definitely sounds like a hiccup.
As for the other one - under the new system, a Hub goes into Pending when you first publish it. If it's not Featured when it comes out of Pending, it has failed the QAP test and must be revised. So it sounds like that's what has happened with that one - which means making minor edits won't help.
Why not post a link in the Extreme Makeover section and get some second opinions?
I guess I can do that, but I don't understand why the moderators cannot be specific about what people are doing wrong so they can take specific action to make corrections. All the re writes are now in pending mode again except for the first one which is now featured. I don't care that much about the product review hubs, but I have a political hub that I feel is extremely important for people to read. If it's back in pending mode again, does this mean it's fixed or not? And what if it gets dumped again? This is driving me nuts!
I can't find the extreme makeover section. I've looked in the forums but don't see it. Where the heck is it??
It's now called Improving Your hubs.
http://hubpages.com/forum/category/2885
The moderators aren't making the decision - it's the panel over at Mechanical Turk, who use something similar to the Hub Hopper. HubPages have said they're looking into some way of letting Hubbers know why a Hub fails the QAP, but that's not available yet.
It means it's waiting to go through the QAP again. You won't know whether it's fixed until it comes out of pending.
Since starting this thread, I've gotten some great advice from some of you about all of this. I initially went in and simply changed the titles of the hubs a bit, and on the settings lowered them from high to low on the commercial setting. Before I made further changes as per the advice I received, the hubs became featured! However, I made the changes anyhow because I thought they would improve the hubs. Every time I get an "idle", it's usually on a hub I wasn't crazy about anyhow. If I think I can fix it with a word or title exchange or a photo exchange, I do it. If not, I delete it. I can usually see why the hub has been idled...I tend to lose my focus sometimes or hubs simply aren't producing or the topics suck. I have no argument with these types of things. But this time I really couldn't figure out what the problems were or why a hub was featured almost immediately and then just as quickly idled. Strange goins' on at HP is all I can say!
I think the system is having some teething problems. I would suggest adding one or two large good quality, appealing, public domain images and pinning them + a few minor edits. Most of my recently published hubs that went idle (published in July 2012) appeared to have been because of external links to non-mainstream sources. Who knows? So just try a couple of things and move on. I had one that was featured, got indexed, and after a day or so got hit with a violation notice (all sorted).
I have learned a lesson with the Exclusives. Several are not getting much traffic. Once published the titles cannot be edited. So you cannot make title changes to try to improve traffic. I would suggest that you check that the exclusives are competitive before using them. As reported in the forums, several apprentice hubs using exclusives have been idled. Sad!
PS there is a form for review (only if its not low traffic)
"something may have gone wrong. If this happens to you, please let us know about the problem by filling out this form.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/vie … Mmk1QVE6MQ
Thanks for this link, I'll give it a try. You're right about the exclusives...the only one I tried has gotten horrible views! I've tried the minor edits and am now awaiting the results. It would really be helpful if the problems were identified for people...guessing games are just that...guessing games! I have no violation notices, but the traffic on a few of the hubs I'm concerned about has been very, very good and I hate to lose it. Thanks for your help.

Is the one near the center just daydreaming? Neither asleep nor awake?
I had a hub fall asleep after only 5 weeks of no traffic. It had barely hit the search engines seeing as Google had crawled it in its first 24 hours and then left it alone.
As traffic is of vital importance, I wish HP would re-think their policy of idling all new hubs.
I have a (fairly) new subdomain that has about 12 hubs, each of 1000 words plus, that gets no search traffic at all.
Yet, its topic is dominated by the likes of eHow.
What is going wrong here?
I rarely even try to figure it out anymore. I check in daily to see what hubs have been idled, deindex them in Google Webmaster Tools, unpublish (not delete) them here on HP, and then move them to a new home and have them indexed by Google Webmaster Tools.
I sincerely hope all works out here with all the trial and error that is going on. I do wish it would revert back to the older ways, lol. However, trying to figure it out anymore and attempt to stay on top of everything has simply overwhelmed me for the time being.
I still have a good selection of hubs here and some get great views and some are heading, I am sure, to the sleeping status. I reckon patience is what it is all about.....Now if I could only replace the frustration with patience, I will do well, lol. So far that has not happened.
If its traffic related, then unless its amended to garner more hits, its likely to get low traffic elsewhere. IMO - worth "kissing to make it better first" - i.e. Try changing the title to something more competitive, Social stuff, Pins, interlinking, etc.
The Prince awakens Sleeping Beauty with a Kiss.
I personally think that some of the traffic related issues stem from it sitting on the sub-domain here, so moving it will help with absolutely no change. You have to remember that I have had several highly scored hubs with traffic that were idled as well.... so it is not all traffic related.
HP is moribund. Makes me sad because I love it. I keep hoping, but I have a really bad feeling about this latest 80% plunge in traffic. Hope I'm wrong.
I have one which was posted on the 18th this month and put into idle by the 21st. It never even had a chance to get anywhere before HP mothballed it. This is a post which I know has links to it because I created them myself.
I'm using other sites and networks to create indexes to my HubPages posts. It's more work and seems pretty silly to have to do something like that when it's not about getting readers just keeping HP from excluding my posts from Google finding them.
Idle hubs mean no ads. So we are not the only one losing out HP is losing income.
Only pending ones have no ads - Idle ones have ads.
Why does HP "reject articles right off the pending stage,"? That is not right!
There are many reasons - they don't tell you why, so you have to guess what it may be. Just edit, amend and add some extra content until it works. I had one that was 'Idled' twice within several days but eventually kisses worked (added more text, map + photos - not major rewrite).
They are rejected because the QAP process has determined they're not good enough. As Janderson says, we're not told why they're not good enough so it' s a case of guesswork.
Personally I can't be bothered with guesswork. There are plenty of other rev-sharing sites that will take the article, so I just unpublish it and move it to one of those instead.
Seekyt, Infobarrel, Zujava, Wizzley, Xobba, PubWages, ThisisFreelance. ThisisFreelance also has a HowToGuide section starting up, which looks interesting.
Apparently HP is lookkng for riters who cand spell or writein engiihs., let aloan no proper grrammer and puntuations. I ce plenty of those hubs.
I have written 23 articles since September that went to another revenue sharing site.
Granted I've published only 2 articles on wizzley but I've made nothing on that site.
I haven't made much on my articles there either. However, I will make nothing on a Hub that's not featured, so it may as well live somewhere else.
I'm spreading my Hubs around all of the sites above and will see which ones perform best. Bear in mind that unless you know how to promote an article, it can take months before it earns more than a cent or two - so don't be in too much of a hurry to judge.
well in 2 years here, not one pay out and a total of 2283 views. On Zujava, since September, 1316 views and a lot of them from Google, Pinterest, Bing

So good you said it twice!
Thing is, something is really wrong with HP. I know they are trying to fix it, but I'm a little pissed off over being told that my articles were over-optimised.
I've taken to writing naturally, yet Inboundwriter.com tells me my articles are now under-optimised.
I did remove a few keywords some time back
I have now got 12 really useful articles on a new HP niche account that get no search traffic.
I added extra keywords into one of them, and it got Bing traffic almost immediately.
Google don't seem to want to know.
On another niche subdomain, I wrote a hub specifically answering a popular query relating to Black Friday.
Google placed it #1 on their search engine.
It's getting loads of hits, but with a high bounce rate. After Friday it will get idled.
It ill be interesting to see how hubs perform on those other sites.
I've got a few articles on Infobarrel but they don't seem to get any traffic.
Has anyone had any experience of Squidoo? I closed my account on there some time ago as my lenses kept going to 'work in progress'. But I'm thinking of opening a new one as I believe all you have to do is make a small change every so often to avoid this. You can also promote clickbank products on there too which might be useful.

I love HubPages, I feel that I have learned so much here and my confidence in writing non-fiction took such a huge leap when I was invited onto the Apprenticeship program last year. I have met some wonderful people here - both staff and other Hubbers. But as may other people have said, the idling...

If updating a hub that is featured, say your best hub, a Hub-of-the-Day hub, a contest winner, or such, puts it into a no-index state until it's reviewed again, why would one want to ever update it?I have such a hub that has an almost constant broken link symbol. Every time I've checked the link in...

There is a lot of anger and/or frustration relating to the 'pending' system and most of it is down to the fact that it's not clear why there are exceptions - this is justified and there should be open-ness. (Note this only is aimed at new hubs, not hubs that become un-featured later)One way to do...

Something happened to me today that I have not experienced before.I did some "gardening" and revision work on one of my featured Hubs... and I was "done editing" it stopped being "featured" and instead became "pending" with the usual "going through QA...

Right now, while a Hub is pending, it doesn't show ads, it has a "no follow" tag etc. However our followers get notified and they may share the Hub during that time. It would be nice if that notification could be delayed, too.

The Googlebot visits new hubs within 30-60 minutes while they are in 'Pending' mode and the NOINDEX tag is in place for 24 Hours. This means that the bot does not index the page, and does not return for days or weeks. New pages do not get indexed for days or weeks. This causes lost traffic and lost...
