In the last few days my hubs have dropped from 100-150 views a day to literally zero views unless I actively update them everyday. Has anyone else noticed a drop in traffic this drastic if not more so?
Lots of folks are reporting traffic losses. Each time this has happened, my views pop back up to the previous high and maybe a bit more if I am lucky.
Same thing for me. I suffered a drastic loss in traffic a few months back, but it's picked up recently.
You need to read this earlier thread about this. Scary stuff!
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/112514
Yep. Down by 40-50% now, depending on what day I compare it to. I am at a level I'd not seen since the crash of last September.
My loss has not yet reached the lows of my september losses. If this trend continues It will. I wonder if this mans another algorithm change. Most my losses are Google losses. Still it is the weekend. Perhaps Monday will have something positive in store for me.
I should clarify - I'm now at the level I was just before the huge crash (slightly below it). But during that slump, which was very disheartening, I went down another 40-50% from where I was beforehand. It took months to climb back up. Then the Dan Gordon thing hit (that was a nightmare), and then the huge scraping epidemic from China. And mixed into that was the Google tweak not long ago.
With everything else I have going on in life, I need to create a balance here that maintains a reasonable amount of positive return for the effort put into things. Not sure where that stands just now.
I've noticed a view loss on a few of the days of the week. I'm sure it will turn around soon.
About two months ago I noticed a surge of traffic. Now it seems to be tapering off. I have not been around for many a Penguin/Panda that I hear about a lot so I'm anxious to see what happens.
It looks like it isn't just Hubpages. Matt Cuts hinted at another major algorithm change this year. I will not be surprised if this is it.
I won't panic yet because these changes often bring flux. Over time things tend to settle out.
Do you think some losses may be due to Mother's Day? My biggest losses are right before.that event. Paul E said there is a new algo, so that part is true. It is mentioned all over computer.
It most likely will be to users shopping for Mothers Day. It is quite often we find that holidays & special events you see huge, short, sharp drops in traffic.
Mother's Day plays a role too. Not just holiday losses and weekend losses, but last minute shopping losses.
Plus, this is college graduation season and some people may be entertaining friends and relatives, instead of spending time online. I first noticed a traffic drop last Sunday. Things picked up a little early in the week, but then started heading south again on Thursday.
If it's any consolation, I write on a few other sites and one of them has pretty good internal traffic. That has been very low in the last couple of days, so maybe it's not totally search engine related. (I'm hoping it's not anyway.)
Am also experiencing a huge drop. The graduation season is probably not the reason. After going through your reply I've check my Google analytics stats of last year for the same period to confirm. I see no such huge drop.
After the recent Google Update, i am facing a traffic drop which i have never faced even during the earlier Google Panda Updates. Lets see till this month end how things change.
I've deleted some Not So Well Performing Hubs of mine recently so that they do not effect my Well performing hubs. Unfortunately, my well performing hubs are also going down in search pages. I have opened a forum regarding this; http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/112459
I forgot about graduation and i just went to one. People arn't just spendng time oont it but money too. Great point.
At least I hope that's one of the reasons traffic has dropped.
Yeah same here too.Probably because of the stiff competition or an increase in the no of articles.Have to wait and see.
I'm just starting today here. Yes, you're right. Online competition is increasing in a increasing rate.
I myself have also experience this, but I'm not discourage. The only thing I can do is begin publishing more hubs. I have a list of 15 hubs with I will work on ASAP.
Noticed that too. Should we be writing at least one hub a day? Seems like regularly publishing hubs keep the traffics. Hmm...
My daily views started declining on Thursday, and right now I am 40-50 per cent down from my highs of the past two weeks. The last time this happened it took me 6-7 months to recover. I hope it doesn't take this much time again!
My views are down 8,000+ views per month, but I don't worry I have plans to create super hubs! these are those articles that are so impressive, the world cannot resist. Yup its time to unleash written worded powers from up high above. I grew up in a horrible place, but with that being said my terms of endearment are not a joking matter.
I have tons of fuel to burn online, and these search engines got nothing on such a reality. So yup let my views hit ground zero, I care not for the stats currently, I'm working on higher purpose articles set to uplift folks from out of deep dormancy. LOL Crazy stuff bro, thanks for the motivation to drop it like its hot here in this forum.
Good luck man and hit me up on facebook if you need any help with anything digitally, I help all who enter in my path of least resistance here. It would be my pleasure to do so. Have a wonderful happy mothers day!
It's more than just Mother's Day and graduation parties. My hubs started dropping in traffic on May 6. I'm not touching my hubs and I'm not adding more hubs. I'm just going to wait it out. I see so many blue arrows it gives me a headache.
I had a little more of a decrease in views than usual for Saturday and it was surprising, but views are back up to almost usual for Sunday, so it's a relief. Earnings are kind of far down for Fri and Sat though. Hope that gets better - it may, because I updated about 30 Hubs. Updating really does help traffic.
Happy Mother's Day, Everyone!
Happy Mother's Day to you, too, Patty (and to everyone else here!).
Question - how long had it been since the updates you just mentioned here (the 30 hubs?). You've been on the site a long while, and you have a great inventory of titles. I have already updated just about everything this past few months (many were updated in early March), so I'm wondering if I should do that yet again. Nothing was out of date - I just wanted to give things a boost and preempt any spinning arrows that might have been due. I can't say I saw a huge boost then, but if updating again swill help reverse the decline, I'll go for it.
Thanks for any insight you can share!
Most of the updates I did were to hubs between 6 months and 1 year old.
I guess nobody knows why this site has Google mad. I can't find what this update is for. I know my hub with most traffic moved from consistent page 1 to la la
land. Happy Mother's Day. Things will get better. They always do.
My hub traffic has been badly hit as well. Perhaps it is just Google showing off its power, demonstrating that it can hit anyone who doesn't earn them enough money.
Hub scores are up, but traffic is way down this past several days.
I imagine that this Tuesday and Wednesday will tell us the final tale...
Yes I noticed the same thing, I dropped to about 25% of where my hub traffic was in the past few days.
Maybe the pox on traffic this weekend is fading away. I now have only 11 blue arrows (from a high of 27 during the weekend), and I have 12 red ones. Yay! Hope this continues!
This hit me right at a time when things finally were going pretty well but I decided to do a lot of rewriting, deleting and reformatting. I didn't take a real big hit and today my numbers are up to a decent level. I also made a reasonable amount of money yesterday. Just sayin'
So glad to hear you're recovering quickly! It hit me at an up-cycle, too (so discouraging), but seems to be recovering somewhat now. I need to get busy and write a few hundred more hubs so I have some buffer zone when the dips in the road come along.
Marcy: I have a totally different take on many here at HP. I do not think the number of hubs you write is what brings success. I think the key is subject matter and quality. There are very successful people here who have less than 150 hubs, and some have below 100, which is what makes my point. You're working too hard, girlfriend!
2 red arrows, 10 blue. Oh, well. Better than it was before.
13 blues, down from 46, and 7 reds, up from 2. Better yet, HP stats are up to something a lot closer to normal for the day.
I would expect the blues to disappear as the decline stabilizes, but the reds won't happen until we see an increase. I do believe I'm seeing an actual increase back towards normal. And don't tell me otherwise!
It would be nice if what's going on also includes the usual summer drop. That way, we won't still have that to look forward to...
When does that generally happen? Memorial day?
My first summer had Panda to provide a giant drop and the second had Penguin. I haven't seen an actual summer doldrum yet!
Best I can tell from previous charts, the starting time is different every year. We are definitely in that time frame now though. If not already happening, it will be soon.
You know, PDS, you can be a real kill-joy. Here I am, getting all ready to celebrate the return of traffic, and you tell me it's going back down.
Mean, you are, just plain mean.
For me, and probably most others, it is. That's the normal cycle. However, for folks writing primarily about stuff that could be especially applicable during the summer, the effect could be anywhere from muted to outright positive. Do you feel lucky...?
I don't know the lady, although my wife knows her well.
I once bought four lottery tickets every week for a year. My winnings were 3 $2 prizes. The better half wins something about half the time. She doesn't know the rank of poker hands but can still win if someone will point out the winner of each hand. I can draw a 10 high hand for two hours straight.
So, no, I don't feel lucky. Maybe I should turn the account over to her for the summer...
I salute you PDS for monitoring your hubs closely. Good for you. I just check once a week I check it once a day in passing only.
Yes, I've seen a decrease in traffic of about half the views. Bummer!
My traffic is back to normal today. 5/14 at 1:48 PM. I don't know how long it will last. It looks like others are also getting better. Let's keep on hoping it lasts a while.
My traffic was at normal yesterday, but down today. I'm trying not to pay too much attention to it at this point.
Left things sitting with no updates and was deliberately trying to avoid much activity on Hubpages to watch how traffic was fluctuating and I have definitely noticed a steady increase since the creation of this post.

While the traffic has been dismal for the last year or so, it has continued plunging in the last few weeks. I've witnessed more than 20% of traffic plunge in the last week alone. Worrying times ahead.

I have read somewhere here that google search engines take into account the page-views to compute ranking. Is it advisable to delete non-performing Hubs, those with 0 pageviews a day, as a way to increase traffic in an attempt to increase ranking? How do you deal with low-performing hubs?thanks in...

After the alleged Google alogrithim update probably after 10 December my traffic has fallen drastically from more then 150 views per day to 50. Traffic was steadily rising but after 10 dec it suddenly plunged showing no signs of recovery. (hubs have remained unchanged).

In a forum I read recently someone commented that Google looks down on your subdomain if it contains many poor articles. But how do I tell which is considered poor? Can I tell by hubscore? Some of my hubs are in the 60s, but have thousands of page views and others with fewer views are scored much...

Is there some problem? I find a drastic change in traffic today! I usually get around 300 views a day, its just 20 today. Anyone experiencing the same?
by Eric Dockett 8 years ago
This is long, so here's the bottom line: Basically, my problem is I want to build a site around the same topics and keywords I've done well with here on HP, but I don't want to do anything that would damage the work I've already posted here.I have a couple of niche HubPages accounts that do okay....
