When are the Stats Going to be Permanently Fixed?

Either I am blind or hubbers have given up, but I don't see any posts about the stats breaking yet again.

Is this feature ever going to be fixed to work more consistently, or will it be taken away?  I prefer the HP stats because they are easy to read and show my hits for each and every hub.  Seeing no updates for hours or days doesn't help me trust the earnings I receive.

Yes, I'm a stat monster.  I check mine a lot.  I enjoy it.  I like seeing when a hub gets a lot of traffic.

Maybe you could just have some coffee.

        I don't drink coffee.

Maybe you could have just not said anything, if you had nothing to say at all.

Ah, but I did have something to say... I just veiled it in an inane comment. It was up to you to suss the meaning.

Oh I received and understood your meaning, hence why I felt you had nothing pertinent to say.

I understood that you understood. Next time you start a thread I will only agree with whatever you say. I want you to like me. I'm just that needy.

I wrote a hub that talks about people like you.  Now I'll take my own advice and promptly disregard any further comments form you.  Good day.

Maybe next time be more blunt.

I tried giving friendly inane "calm down and put it in perspective" comments for a couple years.  Now I'm down to "don't get your knickers in a twist" Pretty soon it will be "Oh do sod off you great bloody whiner"

HP forums don't encourage nice, pleasant exchanges.  It's a cesspool with an occasional diamond among the dung. It's great for the dung, I suppose. Not so great for the diamond.

Im afraid I am not good at being blunt... some where within me is a small English librarian male, striving to get out... yes Im tempted to make an inappropriate joke here, but so that I wont have a new hub written about me by the op, I will refrain from making it.

Ha! Are you really Madonna? *slaps self for stupidity* was confusing English librarian male with gay man in woman's body. lol

You're forgiven for not knowing, Beth lol She was once interviewed on a British TV channel and she said (paraphrasing) "I'm a gay man in a woman's body and trying to get out"

I dunno, something about you being male and literary reminded me of the quote. It's late, perhaps sleep will help me think clearly. smile

It is annoying but since it seems to happen on a regular basis I guess we have all become used to it and stopped complaining.

We are aware of each of these delays, so there is no need to post a forum thread each time it occurs.
There is text to that effect on the stats screen.
We strive to keep your Hub statistics as up to date as possible and the recency of our statistics are closely monitored. If you notice that your stats haven't been updated in a while, rest assured that we are aware of the issue. You can expect that things will return to normal within a day or so.

You may want to consider using Google Webmaster Tools if you would like more granular information.

This is frustrating because I do not know how to use Webmaster tools.  Every time I've tried, I've failed...so HP states or Analytics are my only ways of knowing what works and what does not.  This seems to happen like clockwork every Friday and goes on for about two days.  Unfortunately, this is the time when most writers have the time to analyze, fix and write.  Surely you can do something that works better for all of us!

      2. davidlivermore profile image80
davidlivermoreposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Then perhaps something sent out to hubbers about it?  It's been an ongoing issue with no clear explanation from HP.  I don't mean to be rude, but I've seen that generic statement, but there is no explanation as to why.  That's why I felt the need to bring it up.

I do use Google Webmaster Tools, but they are never as clear cut as HP stats, which I prefer since they show a trend in each and every one of my hubs.

    And an éclair. big_smile

But I get what you're saying. I am eager to look at my stats to see how well I'm doing (granted it's all stories and poetry). I've been training myself not to let this go over my head and I think I've gotten somewhat better. I'm going to have my éclair now...

It happens a lot, all we can do is to get used to it. Try Google Analytics for real-time stats, check your polls and earnings, until the stats come back again. hmm

The expectation is that the stats might be fixed, they might be accurate - at some point.  Then they will break again.

For me they just show a continuing slow decline anyway.

    1. TIMETRAVELER2 profile image76
TIMETRAVELER2posted 11 years agoin reply to this

But that is not the same for all of us, Mark.  To revamp you need to know what to revamp and it is almost impossible to know on a daily basis without these stats.

It is very frustrating, davidlivermore, to have that "here we go again" feeling every seven days. I've noticed it since Thursday (which was a holiday so expected) but have decided not to stress too much and just wait. I had been one of the hubbers who always posted about stats being broken but I decided not to this time. I redirecting that energy somewhere else. I deal with it by looking forward to that false sense of real progress in my traffic when I get that burst of stats build-up on Monday or Tuesday. It temporarily makes me feel good. smile I, too, am a stats monster, trying to manage the hunger. big_smile

I had a problem with the stats too.  The page views were not updating.  I thought it was just me.  I had a few comments so I knew people were viewing the page, but the page views was stuck on a number and wouldn't budge.  Seems to be corrected now.

Hubpages has previously stated that calculation of advertising payments is separate from Hubpages stats.

Hubpages stats are based on a rolling 24 hours and are a very general view of what's happening. They are only there for a quick once over - if you need more in depth information it's better to use GA.

    1. davidlivermore profile image80
davidlivermoreposted 11 years agoin reply to this

I didn't know that about the payments, but still, the stats do give an indication of that.  When I see a spike in my traffic, I see a spike in my revenue.  So while they are calculated differently, it still is a good indicator.  Thanks for the info, though.

But I have seen HP say use your stats to determine which hubs need work!  I use GA often, but the stats on HP are so much easier.

You can write a huge hub with amazing images and videos which gets 3 views a day. You can write a hub with 250 words and a handful of images and get 50 to 500 views a day.

Traffic is usually an indication of keywords, not of quality smile

I don't even know how to feel about this whole entire thread. As a fairly new hubber who has found the HP forums quite helpful and friendly it's a little disheartening how hubbbers are interacting in this one.

As for the topic, I too am a MASSIVE stat monster. I relate to the frustrations of the stats not updating, yet like other hubbers, figure all I can do is roll with it. Luckily I'm not locked into weekly time frames for updating hubs that aren't getting as much traffic as they could so it hasn't been much of an issue for me.

Having said that, one does have to wonder why this is happening and if anyone is ever going to explain what's going on and/or actually fix it.

There are a couple of people who are very vocal about this issue every time it comes up but I think most people aren't that bothered by it.

      I'm certainly not.

I've never relied on HP's traffic stats because Google Analytics is far better and far less likely to go glitchy. It's been an easy to choice to make!

And I've never had any reason to doubt the accuracy of impression splits and earnings (I've checked them for accuracy many times), which to me is the main thing.

So for anyone who finds the HP stats stalling upsetting.... why not just use analytics instead? It will save you a lot of headaches.

I agree. Personally, I love looking at my stats through Real-Time on Google Analytics. You can see live visitors come and go, towards HubPages is a general overview of the whole situation.
