Hubbers need a live chat room other than just forum. It will make sense.Call it "hubconnect"
Now that does make sense and it is a wonderful idea...
Thanks Sukkran. You are highly appreciated, keep reading!
Great idea! What do you think we should do next?
Continue sending in your supportivd comments and suggestions to make it work well,i hope "Hupfler and co" are reading this thread, they will do something at the due course.Keep supporting.
May be to get to know more about masked people and their odds! Plz forgive me if u are masked already. My one and one AE i love this pic now,it reminds me of getting mar...d
AE please dön' get annoyed, are u mar...d or still s....e? Welcome back then?
It's been suggested before and most have said they wouldn't use it.
Why?
Because usually chat rooms create meaningless banter. Yes, we get that in forums as well, but forums also allow people to ask questions and get answers and it's all searchable and available for others to find answers to their own questions.
Further on from that, and I've seen it happen on several forums that has had people partaking in chat on the side, it can be a very forced conversation. People feel the need to fill the 'dead air' with words, so they'll say anything to keep the atmosphere alive.
Unlike a forum where a person can read and reread their reply before hitting submit, the 'quickly say it now' emotion of a chatroom will have people saying all manner of things. And people tend to be more aware that what is said on a forum stays there, whereas the general feeling with a chatroom is it disappears quickly. But while the chats aren't search friendly, they are kept in a log. And when discussions start to be about other people it can lead to quite an explosive situation.
I'm not saying it will happen, but I've seen it happen often enough that I think it can happen too easily.
Here's a few things that can happen and tend to go wrong very quickly:
Asking people to vote up your pages.
Asking people to vote down other pages. Or to report them.
Asking people to bump a thread in the forum.

It requires a download of just under 1/2 MB and registration to chat.
Why not just leave our messenger ID's for the various messengers out there? or send a request thru our email I have Pest on my Yahoo! but I dont get on it too much
Dame i don't seem to get your idea clearly, please can u pardon me and be more explainative a bit,so i and others kan get u clear? Thanks angel!
Yahoo! messenger...MSN messenger...AOL messenger.. n lots others ...maybe just share that info with whoever one likes or wants to chat with both can meet up thru those messengers. I take it you dont have one? accofranco?
Oh please, no.. I can't keep up with all that's here already.
The one I now have open was a good room at one time. No one did any of the thing Darkside mentioned. Mostly we helped one another out with advice on certain topics and such. Of course I am not syaing those things DS said won't happen because I cannot control what others do.
I have to agree with sirdent on that. Shirley Anderson, ProCW, Squimpleton, and Nicole Winter all participated and were very nice people to talk to. Honestly if you do not want to participate in a chat room that is one thing, but implying that those who like to chat would only do silly things is a little over the line.
My lord, u alwaz love to lean and dream from the -ve side y? Everything on Earth has -vity except "Death" allow the interested ones to give a try,im nt criticizing u plz,im observing tings.Thank u and don't take it to heart, this are just typed words. To "Dame",i have a yahoo, and is same as my id here on HP,so if u wish for a chat, hit me on!start to be about other people it can lead to quite an explosive situation.

Don't chat rooms have moderators anyways? they could toss out somebody gettin nassy
The one sirdent had with us hubbers was really pleasant. We were not on it 24/7, but for those who like to chat it was nice to get to know hubbers a little bit more. Of course chatting is optional and no one can make you .
I think there should be a Religious Chatroom and Misha and Mark Knowles can be the moderators.
Debates can be quite the 'sparring with words' least with no real gore n bloodletting too
I don't think a chat room would work here. I use Yahoo, Skype and FaceBook for chat. I simply invite friends. No need for a chat room.
So very true SweetiePie nobody can force anybody to a chat room... sides.. some people probably be too shy like me, lol
Well chatting on that link is the same as chatting on facebook. Thanks for sharing the link again sirdent .
Hey...is that wascally, Pest when we goin chat is you goin chat me earz off? lol
Okay then...a chat room would be spectacular. What is the difference between here or any other chat site...silly me. i are so dumb.
I have no idea what time you get on I would meet up with you...just give me a time, n if I dont make it..probably cuz me sons kicked me offline
I am going to close it now. Seems no one is really interested. If you chzange your mind let me know something and I will open it and get it set permanent.
just set it as permanent and when it doesn't do well throw it out.
Arrest my case, there are daggers in every hubbers' smiles.I sensed something...
Hubpages needs a chat room like my dog needs a chess set.
How about using MSN, Google chat, or something else that is specifically built for chat.
The infrastructure needs of a large chatroom are non trivial. I'd rather hubpages concentrate on what it does best - provide a platform for writers.
(although a religious chat room with Mr. Knowles and Misha as moderators is probably something I'd pay money to see )
Ok Eric, now you're just being ridiculous. Everyone knows that dogs do not possess the mental acuity to play chess. Mine was barely able to learn checkers. Although he does play a mean game of poker!
I went to SirDent's chatroom many times. It was a noble gesture on SirDent's part, but I always seemed to end up talking to myself. Kinda made me a little self conscious, ya know?
The problem is that we are all in different time zones and countries. I visited the chat when Sir Dent was trying to get one going and I was always alone. Most people ended up visiting the chat room when no one else was there.
I am not opening the chatroom anymore unless I get enough positive feedback about having one. When I had it open before I would always post that I was there when I went to it. Oh well, thats in the poast now.
I know right! I suggested that too! The hubconnect is a great name! Maybe I should start making one up for the heck of it?!
Thanks for buying the idea and the name, please get down on it and let's see it fast. Kudos to u!
Just throwing my 2 cents in. I wouldn't visit a chat room. Forums work fine for me. On a Friday or Saturday night, it can get so lively that some people can't keep up. If a "good" chat room is for helping each other, how is that different from the forums already set up for that?
Chat rooms were a great idea back in the net's infancy, but now we have Facebook, Twitter, etc. that work much the same (better, actually).
...I had no idea this forum was generating this much replies?!
We did successfully managed to chat with one another. The key is to make sure you invite the right type of hubber you want to chat with. Not some perve, standing by the sidelines watching and waiting to prowl on a certain hubber?!
Six years, and it still hasn't happened. I don't suppose it will now.
Hold on and I'll get my tools and build one in Second Life
As others have said, HubPages has limited staff and there have always been other priorities for them to work on.
Since this thread was started, several Hubbers have tried setting up chat rooms for Hubbers and not one of them has survived. That tells you something about the level of support for one!
I like the idea of having a chat room here. I, personally, do not have a problem waiting for answers to my questions or concerns but sometimes it's nice to get answers right away. Great idea for a chat room.

Can somebody please tell me how to get rid of that annoying chat box that keeps showing up on my FB pages? I have tried to close it, move it, eliminate it...to no avail. It blocks part of what I'm trying to read and I HATE IT! Help, please!

I am sorry to have to bring this up, but, and I don't want to get banned from HP's by naming names - but there are some complete dick heads in these forums who think they know it all and walk all over everyone else, you must have seen them or read their answers, so condescending it is unbelievable....

How fun would that be. Set up like twitter, only allow 140 characters and such. Is this realistic? Could we behave ourselves?

Am feeling disappointed this morning. When I write and photograph a tutorial the written work is my copyright and it is always my hope that people will only use these for personal use and for their friends and family. I never expect that they will go into business selling the finished product but...

I think it would be nice for Hub Pages to have a Live Chat feature on our site for hub writers to get direct assistance when they are really frustrated, confused, or stuck. At least one other writing site that I know of has it, and it's really nice. It's amazing what a little timely morale...
