I've been seeing hubs that have been "shared by" another hubber (i.e. the person posting it is not the person that originally wrote it). What is the purpose of this?  Is there some benefit to this or are people just "sharing" hubs they like?  Do you have to have permission to do this? I don't quite get it.

No, you do not have to have permission to share someone else's hub. The share button is in with the social share buttons on every hub. You can share hubs on Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and Facebook from those buttons too. It is social sharing.

Ok thanks colorfulone. Does this possibly increase traffic for one or both hubbers?

It has the potential to increase traffic for both people.

As an illustration of the power of sharing strategically on social media: I published a hub on 3/16.  It received thirty some odd views between 3/16 and 3/30.  I then shared the link in a facebook group dedicated to that subject and asked for feedback.  It's now seen more than 100 views.  By sharing it in a strategic location on facebook it's received about 250% more traffic in the last 24 hours than it did in the previous 2 weeks!

Hub mentioned is available at http://kbdressman.hubpages.com/hub/Are- … Christians , if anyone is interested. smile

Posting links to your hubs is against HP's TOS and can get you banned...self promotion, etc.  Just a friendly reminder.

From memory, you can earn money from sharing other Hubbers hubs via the share button. There is a particular way to do it and details are in the tutorial section if you wan to earn from it. I've never done it myself but read about it once.

Thank you Organised Kaos. (I like your name, by the way--I can relate!)

I think you're confusing this with referrals.   You can't earn from sharing other Hubbers' Hubs.

Yup - I think that is what I was reading about. Never done it though so sorry for the mixup.

Marisa is correct; sharing Hubs using the H+ button is just a way to show great Hubs you come across to your Followers in their Feed. It does not provide the sharer with additional income.

You can also use the HubPages Referral Program to potentially earn a commission from writers who sign up using your link when you share it outside of HubPages (like on Facebook or Twitter).

What about the link at the bottom of the page that ends up in the referral tracker.  We don't earn income from that unless the veiwers become HP authors that actually write Hubs? I thought we got a small percentage of the pageviews for sharing from the referral tracker link.

I thought we could earn from that also. Have the rules changed?

To be honest, I thought there was a program similar to the one that Solaras mentioned. Although I can't be sure...

Solaras, that link contains your referral tracker, but the way that tracker works is that if someone signs up with it and writes Hubs, you will receive 10% of their impressions in perpetuity (that Hubber will still get 60%, but HubPages will only get 30%). But yes, someone must use the link to join HubPages in order for you to earn from sharing Hubs.

Social sharing can and does increase views.
Some content can and does go viral in that way.
People who only share their own stuff are seen by others.
People who share other people's stuff are seen by others.
    Birds of a feather....
