I'm used to clicking on the hubs page on my dashboard and being able to see an earnings message for the total earned to date this month up top.
Apart from anything else it's a quick way of being able to tell whether the dashboard has updated
However the earnings message has disappeared! What's happened to it?
Please can we have it back.
It's gone from the My Account > Hubs > Statistics page. The new quality alerts created the potential for an excessively high number of notices to appear on that page. We removed the earnings notice as it is not Hub (or Hub Stats) related. The earnings notice will always be just a tab away in My Account > Earnings > Settings: https://hubpages.com/my/earnings/affiliate/
Since not everyone reads every post in every forum, is it possible that a notice can be emailed out about changes such as this, or at least put in the newsletter? Just implementing a change without telling us causes wasted time on forum threads and duplicate threads.
Edit: I knew about the Earnings tab, just relied on the account page $ for quick reference.
Since the information that was removed is accessible from two additional places in My Account, this didn't meet the bar for an announcement. As I mentioned in this post, it's no faster to get to My Account > Hubs > Settings than it is to get to My Account > Earnings > Earnings Reports, unless of course you have the former bookmarked in your browser.
I do believe it'll be mentioned in this week's newsletter, though!
Except we used to have a nice big figure for this month on (one click) "My Account"
and a very much smaller figure (get my glasses out) on (one click) "My earnings"
I can adapt to the change - it's just a pity I now have click two different pages to get the info I want.
Some sort of magnifying glass may be useful. You could keep it in your top pocket.
It's HUGE and in a pot to the left of my iMac
+1 for the comeback
-1 for having a Mac. Seriously with Windows 11 Microsoft will finally get one that works. Maybe.
+1 to Squidoo for buying me my iMac
(PS I've nothing against Windows or Microsoft - I just wanted a computer that didn't fail after a year and/or blow up. There is no way I would ever go back to PC after having had an iMac. I asked blog followers before I got one and the reason I did is because everybody I asked who had an Apple product talked about how many they still had that worked. They had upgraded rather than replaced - and that's a concept I like)
Nope - that's not what I said.
I ditched PCs because of the build quality of personal computers - there's only so many bits burning out and computers 'blowing up' one person can take. When you learn reputable manufacturers are lending their names to complete *@%&! is when you start to pay attention to build quality.
I've run silent non-heat generating 27" iMacs since March 2010 and am a very happy person as a result.
I still use MS - in MS Office form. I've 'power used' Word, Excel and Powerpoint for the last 25 years and am not about to abandon them now! Office works absolutely fine on Apple products.
Windows operating system on the other hand got too geeky for its own good and was not impressing and I wasn't sorry to leave that behind.
I noticed it was gone and thought it was a temporary glitch. I went to the Earnings tab. I finally came to the forum to find out why it is missing since it was beginning to look permanent. HP might have put up a notice on the stat page for a week or so explaining where to go. it is less convenient to have to open the earnings tab, but that's life on HP.
I noticed this too, I thought it might just be me at first. I think it might be part of the new updates that they put/are putting in place. But yes I agree with you, it was nice to have it there on your dash as a little way of checking at a glance.
If it doesn't reappear I'll certainly be looking at my dashboard a lot less. One quick hit means you look. When you have to do several clicks to get the same info there's a disincentive to bother.
Do you think HP staff got tired of seeing all of those forum threads about "My earnings have not been updated for 48 hours"?
I'm using Chrome, I can't see it either.
Might be worth giving Firefox a go. That is quite highly rated.
Yes, Firefox is good. The absence of the earnings bar doesn't actually bother me though.
Obviously, money was why most humans used to check in on their dashboards at all, and clearly that is not a good motivator right now.
It's clear that every change made to the dashboard in the last several years has been a negative action indicator, which is another way of saying admin seems to be getting advice that the best way to get users re-engaged with the site is to continually stream little data indicators to us about what we are doing wrong.
This is just the latest update so we can be informed very precisely as to how we are not doing exactly what admin wants. They aren't getting through the mass of outdated content using editors as quickly as needed, and it's also cheaper if you can induce the users to fix stuff themselves.
The quality alerts are located where the earnings once were.
I suppose it is partly a question of how many items you can shoehorn into the main page.
They might be hiding the awful truth that you only a made a dollar yesterday, lol.
Maybe it works if you use Internet Explorer.
I suppose it is partly a question of how many items you can shoehorn into the main page.
This. It was not part of a secret agenda to hide earnings information. It was purely a question of space.
So why not make the filter a drop down option? That's something people only use periodically but it takes up a huge amount of space.
Or make the "My Earnings" tab on the dropdown menu at the top have the earnings info.
That way I just need to hit "My Earnings" rather than "My Account" to get the info that was available.
I've stopped checking "My Account" since the earnings disappeared and I don't suppose I'll be the only one - which means clicks recorded on the site will go down. I checked it when it was easy peasy - and I won't once you put it behind more than one click. I know that's silly - but it's also typical online behaviour.
I'd just like to have a one click solution from the main dropdown menu.
Or make the "My Earnings" tab on the dropdown menu at the top have the earnings info.
This is already the case, assuming we are talking about the same thing. If you go to [username] ---> My Earnings from the header navigation bar, you are taken to the Earnings Reports page. In the All Programs Summary section at the top, there are four data points:
- Yesterday
- Last 7 days
- This month (Dec)
- Last month (Nov)
The This Month (Dec) amount is the same info that is in the "HubPages Earnings Program: $7B so far this month" section that got removed from the main page. It is still only 1 click away, but the information is a little less prominent because it is not in its own section.
Deleted
It is one click though. I'm sure we are misunderstanding each other somehow.
This is where I always go to check my earnings for a certain period, or check my balance. I have no problem using this feature. It is just that suddenly the earnings line on the account page was gone and that was a concern. I am okay with the change now that I understand it.
If I install Windows 10 and try using Safari it might come back.
I didn't even notice the change until I saw this forum post. I will still visit the My Account page every day. The main reason I go there is to check how my traffic is doing. The earnings are secondary.
There was once a thread entitled 'First World Problems'.
I think this stuff would qualify, lol.

While I link my Adsense account, it directs me to Google, which then asks if I want to accept the association, I say yes, then it directs me back to Hubpages, but it just loads a blank page, nothing comes up. I could not find anything like this in the help section, is there something else I need to...

I've noticed in the past couple of months that my balance history for a particular month does not reflect what my account shows in current time. Yes, earnings and page views were stalled during the last weekend of September, but now all is supposedly good. However, my balance history is $5 shy of...

Okay - It seems there was an update to the definition of our earnings. I cannot say when it occurred.Basically we are paid for pageviews. One payment per view of article, regardless of how many ads are delivered to the reader, unless they back out before the first ad is actually viewed. Then we...

Since I finished the apprenticeship, and after umpteen updates and changes made on HP, my traffic has never picked up. I can't remember the last time I saw any more than 40 views a day. My average at the moment is more like 30. The articles I worked long and hard to produce, sit there doing nothing...

1. Change ad placements so they don't interrupt the text. Place ads to one or either side of the text.2. Get rid of Recommended For You ads currently at the bottom of articles. They are undermining the whole site.3. Encourage more transparent dialogue between writers and the HP team. Exchange of...
