Hey, KMackey! I've been out of the loop, so to say, and am surprised to read about your situation. I'm really sorry that you are placed in this situation. I didn't read the complete thread, but having friends who have been there, this is what they did:
1. Contact CAS and inform them that you believe your children are in danger. They will go to your husband's home and if they find evidence that they are in danger, they will scoop the kids;
2. Contact and retain a family law lawyer specializing in cross-state child custody. He or she will know the best avenue for obtaining a restraining order if you or your children's well being are or can be threatended. Also, he or she will review your custody arrangements issued by the NY court. Custody agreements are not set in stone, and can be reviewed and revised accordingly. Also, now that the children's residence is not in NY, you maybe able to appeal the custody order in your state court;
3. Obtain support for yourself. If you grew up in an acoholic family and/or have/is in a acoholic relationship, you can get support through different groups. There is AA and Al-Anon and many other sources for counselling. If there is abuse of any nature, contact Violence Against Women or your local hosipital for names of organizations that can offer you support;
4. Be strong and courageous. It's not easy to stand up against an offender, and this I know personally, but it will help you take your power back and give your children their power. Your children are the most important. If you are scared, it's natural. You are doing this for them, and for yourself. When I had to make my decision, all I had to do was picture the worst outcome and ask myself if I could live with it. That, alone, gave me the courage to take control.
The decision is yours and yours alone. I hope you take this opportunity to change things for you and your children. My thoughts and wishes are with you. Let me know how it goes. Hugs
