I am working on a pretty big hub at the moment and was going to try to get it half done. I sat down did some research and had a page of content written and just had to stop. My eyes are getting blurry and my brain hurts lol.
How much do you all write in a single sitting ? do you finish each hub by sitting down and writing for a few hours ? do you plan it out and write a little here and a little there ?
just curious how others go about their hub writing
With me, the length of time I take depends mostly on the topic and how much, if any, research is involved. My hubs vary from 400-600 words, if it's an article. Poetry is usually much shorter in length.
I have knocked out two or three articles in one day, and I have spent several days on just one. Poetry, even though shorter, sometimes requires more time and a tremendous amount of thought, memory and/or soul searching, as well as research, if injecting specific references to exotic, literary, foreign, mythologic or somewhat unfamiliar language, persons and ideas.
Writing can be very draining and tiring, as well as exciting, satisfying, and uplifting. Sometime I make an outline. But mostly, after the research is done, I let it flow. Sometimes it gushes out, other times it needs a little push. But it all depends on the topic. I usually write 4-5 hours a day.
For me it depends on the length. Less than 500 words and I can do it in one sitting. More... and it'll probably also mean that research was also required. So I do a bit here and there. Sometimes working on a few hubs at a time.
All I know is it takes many many hours, and then I need a few weeks to rest while waiting for the next inspiration.
I write for five to eight hours a day, every day, but only part of it at Hub Pages. It takes me anywhere from around an hour to ninety minutes to write a hub. Usually I don't stop until the hub is done. If I stop I usually don't come back to finish it--I end up deleting the thing.
That is so quick I bet you are a fast typer from all your typing lol.
I am about the same as Pam apart from I always finish my hubs and never spend more than two hours on one. I can write 500-1,000 words in one go easily enough but like a break if doing any more.
Lol I just knew it !!! I suppose it would help me if I turned the lights on when I am typing, I get buttock cramps from my chair quite often and am too lazy to get up ROFL.
Ummmmmmm yeah that's it therapeutic massages. can you believe it is illegal in the US to perform a therapeutic buttock massage without permission? I was simply offering a random act of kindness and....
Do you need written permission? Can I borrow a pen?
My attorney says that would be great. Also a general waiver of liability.
Oh I will take one of those. I am first. I am first woo hoo. Ron you are true blue to offer, so hoppity in your time machine, am waiting still stuck in my chair.
Time machine? Am I posting from the future?
Hahaha oh a wee slip of the tongue Ron dang........
I meant travel machine grrrrrr. Or a good ole fashioned aeroplane will suffice here.
Do what you must Ron but don't be late they may just drop off for all eternity.
Now don't start confusing a blonde first thing in the morn with ruffled hair and a sore bum LMAO. What is a Freudian????
A freudian slip is when you say something accidentally that reveals what you are truly thinking. Such as:
Hahahah.
Wow Ron well I have learned a new word today, and I think that is just dandy. My you make a good teacher!!! Just think we could both teach each other a few new tricks indeed!!!
Will you be a strict school marm; heavy on the discipline?
Not for eternity, I would retrieve them for you
my hubs have varied depending on content...I am working on one now and should be released soon
For a hub, around 2 -3 hours. My time will increase once the the kids are back at school & I have more free time.
Thanks for all the responses
I used to be able to really bunker down and write 2-3 decent hubs a day when I didn't have classes or work.
now I changed my style so that I pick a niche, and basically write what I may have in the past split up into several hubs and combine it in one. My goal is to have each hub to have more of a website like feel too it and hopefully attract more people to link to them.
I will say I enjoyed being able to publish a couple hubs a day for the weeks I did that, but I suppose I have more time to think about what I'm writing when it takes a couple days per hub.
I just recently realized I had like 8 hubs on the same niche all getting a few views a day, so I just combined them recently.
anyways thanks again for the responses, its fun to hear how everyone works differently.
Sometimes the words just fly right out of me and onto the screen. Other days, it takes me so long to write just one paragraph. When it's a good day, writing 800-2000 words takes only a couple hours. On a bad day, I may go back to the same document several times, spending an hour or so each time until it's finished.
I prefer to write each article in one sitting though. I feel kind of bad if I leave one for too long
I've also found that this HubChallenge has made it harder to keep my creativity fired up. I feel like I spend longer on each new article just to come out with it being not as fun as the one before. How do you veteran hubbers keep up your stamina and creativity?
I get really frustrated because all summer I have been wanting to treat HP as a traditional job, i.e. write hubs from 9-5. I just can't do it. One problem could be that it is SUMMER lol and the other is that I'm not as motivated like I would be with a traditional job; there are no deadlines here. I wanted to get 200 hubs before classes start at the end of this month, but obviously - 'not gonna happen!'
Some days I will write for an hour, whenever the mood strikes, and other days I might write for a few hours. It really depends on what else I'm doing that day and how my mood is.
A hub with research 600-700 words takes me about 45 minutes. A hub where I already know the topic 600-700 words takes me 20-25 minutes.

When looking for information on a hub topic it is good to make sure that the information is accurate and that you have done your homework because there is nothing worse than reading an article that has false information. This takes the reader away from your site as they feel that it is fictitious...

I'm new to Hubpages, as I joined about two weeks ago.I've been looking around and there are many quite prolific hubbers.I know that quality is what matters, but out of curiosity, how long do you spend writing each hub? Including any research, writing, editing.

How much time do you normally require to write a hub on the average? I am asking this because I can easily write a hub within 30-40 minutes time and sometimes a hub will take a couple of hours or so. BUT food hubs are taking a lot longer to complete, maybe because I haven't written much articles on...

I was just wondering how long a hub takes you to write from concept to published? I am using hubpages as the start of my freelance writing career and I am working being more productive. I am also only doing my second hub now. I have an editor now so that will add time to the process still...
