If you post Indian actress pics, you've been copied. Anyone that's printed anything to do with health - check the site. Halloween - you're on there.
What a sack of shit
Dogs, hair advice, software and product reviews. Sheesh.
And I know the person doing this will be banned. But they'll do it again. And others will do the same.
Why can't these site install programming that prevents it. HP has something that picks up copied content.
I don't know enough about how it all works to talk intelligently, but how are some websites able to block you from right clicking on their material? I ran across one earlier today where I was trying to highlight a long name that I didn't want to have to remember how to spell before trying to Google it. That site had blocked it where you couldn't right click and copy anything and mentioned that their material was copyrighted, blah, blah, blah. It was annoying for what I was trying to do, but it sure would be handy in cases like this.
GUYS! There is a Shiftk too!! With Hubs!!

Is there a shift 1-z? If there is..they took MILLIONS of pageviews at this rate.
~thranax~
I wondered about that Thranax when I saw "M" and "N"....I wondered if there might be an "A" through "Z" to go with them. You found K.
KCC that's a good idea.
And I had to laugh - the guy's even got an article titled 5 Obvious Signs That You Plagiarise - the irony!
Just a thought Thranax, how about editing your original posts so they don't get the backlinking benefit of all those hyperlinks?
You can't edit after 5 minutes..Your worrying about backlinks when this is a real copyright issue of a large scale? There whole site should be offline soon enough, or else the account will be removed, breaking all the links.
~thranax~
This is how the guy did it! Look on DocStoc they have a program to upload all files from a FOLDER! They are downloading all the content with a spiderbot, saving to a directory, then using this provided by DocStoc to upload!
"Docstoc Sync is a downloadable application that runs on your PC or Mac. You can select which folders you wish to sync with Docstoc. The application will check these folders for changes and automatically sync any new or updated documents with Docstoc MyDocs. By default, Docstoc Sync will upload and sync all your documents privately on Docstoc, so no one else can view these documents without your permission. In addition Docstoc Sync installs a folder on your desktop called "Docstoc Public Documents", where you can easily upload any document to Docstoc publicly. "
~thranax~
All members with lists on that site can also E-Mail the documents to a whole contact list instantly and automatically.
"Docstoc OneClick is the easiest way to email large documents, without attaching files. Instead of emailing files as attachments, you can easily send large documents as links to all of your contacts. The documents can be viewed and downloaded from docstoc, allowing you to send large files with ease and confidence of receipt. WIth OneClick, simply right click any large document(s) to instantly send files to any of your contacts via email. "
~thranax~
Well, at this point, I've filed a complaint with the DMCA, then copied that complaint in an email to copyright@docstoc.com and told them:
"I, and hundreds of others from the same website (hubpages.com) have discovered today that someone has been uploading our copyrighted material to your website. We are each individually filling complaints (see mine below) with the DMCA and Google Adsense. We expect you to ban the individual(s) responsible and to remove our content from your site. You have stolen traffic and revenue from the original authors of this material and it must end now."
I also filed a complaint with Google Adsense.
Nice one KCC.
I was thinking of doing the same but including this Forum Post Thread to help speed up their investigation. (Adsense that is). I hope HP will be will be okay with this.
** Hubpages if you do not want me to insert the Forum Post thread in the complaint, let me know within the next few hours, as I'll be filing it in the morning. (UK time)
For anyone who wants to complain - the link is:
https://www.google.com/adsense/support/ … _complaint
Just checked the docstoc site.
You can search users following the "doctsters" link at the bottom.
The news is not good.
Our firend 'shift' did indeed start at 'a' and work his way through the alphabet.
Where does he go from there? ALT A, ALT B......LOL
Sorry, I'm laughing to keep from throwing up.
Not much else we can do but file the complaints. It'll happen again someday with someone else. We're going to be suseptible to it.

Guys, this may sound like a silly question. But what I want to also know is why most of the docstoc stolen articles that I've seen that are indexed by Google are ranking higher than the original Hub, even though the docstoc stuff has been on there for less than a week? Um, Mr. Deeds?
I've gone through 26 pages of this user's Documents and I've found hubs from every writer I can think of from Hubpages. There must be a thousand different hubbers on this list.
Shiftm has uploaded my Nefertari hub. Somebody at that site is going to have a busy time with the DMCA notifications - hope they do something quick, get rid of these creeps and stop this happening
looking at the order of things I'm feeling this person on this site is a hubber themselves. Most of the sites I've found plagiarizing hubs are owned by hubbers themselves and even use the same avatars and photos.
Docstoc, Inc was founded by Jason Nazar (bio) and Alon Shwartz (bio). The company was selected in September of 2007 to debut its product at the prestigious TechCrunch40 Conference. The product was subsequently launched to the public in November 2007.
Docstoc is a venture backed company (Rustic Canyon) and received funding from the co-founders/investors in MySpace, LowerMyBills, Mp3.com, PriceGrabber and Baidu. Their legal counsel is DLA Piper. The company is located in Santa Monica, CA.
This was from their website.
This without a doubt is where our traffic is going. Just like ironher said, they are ranking better in cases then our original Hubs. 157,000 views isn't a small number to deal with. Thats why we had such a drop in traffic.
~thranax~
He is stealing a whole bunch of ezine articles and go articles as well
They're stealing from everyone far as I can tell. This is called an information farming scheme. They know they'll get caught but in the meantime they rake up thousands of dollars before they get shut down. Then he'll just post another ID and start over.
He's also stealing content from random blogs and websites. But seriously, he's also posting on several other free article sites. Look at the earlier stuff he stole. It's also on a ton of free article submission sites. It by no means is just docstoc.

Thats almost 70,000 more views stolen from Hubpages, and about 70,000 more articles in total.
~thranax~
I am breaking into the 400,000 for articles and views now. That site must be taken to court or something...
~thranax~
Checked several of mine. Didn't find any copied. Guess he/she doesn't care for my subject matter! My traffic is way down however!
Don't be so sure. Keep looking, you'll find one.
My views are the highest they have ever been, but how high would they be if I had all my own traffic? I'll check back in this thread periodically tonight, but I've filed all the complaints I can. I need to go write some more articles for them to copy.
so if they are intercepting our traffic, how does that affect future hubs and hubscores? i almost don't want to do any more writing i mean what is the point?
Just dropped a line to the docstoc.com team:
Dear Docstoc.com
Your site currently has published hundreds of thousands of articles containing stolen material.
Since 09/11/09, a user with multiple profiles:( shifta, shiftb shiftc, shiftd etc and also shift1, shift2, shift3 etc.) has been bulk uploading copied material.
Each profile has 10,000 - 20,000 aticles. Another offender is 'Q16899'
This is obviously a major issue and will have serious repercussions for your site. Many targetted authors at hubpages.com have informed google adsense as this is a breach of their TOS.
I am concerned by your lack of quality control. Any form of control should flag a user uploading hundreds of thousands, if not millions of articles.
It seems wise to remove these articles immediately to limit the damage being done to the reputation of your site.
If you have truely been unaware, you have now been informed.
That's also why the people from the hubpages staff should look into this and file a major complaint, they are losing big bucks as well
Looks like this guy has a lot of usernames but wasn't doing much of anything until the end of August. I've found usernames that have uploaded docs on shifta through shiftn and shift3, shift4 and shift5 that combined have stolen a grand total of 347,640 articles -- not all from HP. But from the sampling I did, all definitely stolen.
Well im not publishing anything until this is resolved, so I suggest that the Hubpages team get on this immediately.
This has to be communication from the top of Hubpages to the top of Docstoc. My traffic is static despite publishing about 40 new hubs, and now I know why.
This is awful, I am gutted. But it explains a lot. Even Mark Knowles has been experiencing poor traffic.
In fact, I suggest that Hubpages gets straight on the phone to Google and their lawyers. This is serious stuff.
Well, all I can say is that publishing unintentionally crappy hubs has its merits. My traffic is way up (about 35%) and I haven't found any hubs of mine he's stolen yet!
It will only be a matter of time though, he is clearly using RSS feeds or something to strip the content. With 400,000 stolen articles, they are hardly sitting their reading them!
I havent found any of mine yet either, but it has been less than a day..... give it another day and the whole of hubpages would have been stripped.
I totally agree with you, unfortunately. It's sad as I had a hub ready to go tomorrow with a few more behind it. I'll do the wait and see thing right along with you.
Yes me too, no hubpages out of me until this is resolved or the user(s) over on Docstoc gets removed!!
Of all the Shifts and the Q1 my totals are this:
Docs: 392,840
Views: 243,538 and rising about 10-1000 pageviews an hour PER account.
18 accounts found.
180-18000 pageviews an hour added to his/the sites account.
~thranax~
SOB, just started searching and found one of my articles here: http://www.sunday136.cn/archives/1323
It's my Secret Treatment for Lice hub. I'm pissed, what do I do?
Am searching my other hubs now. A$$hole people.
Bloody Hell thranax,
Nice detective work.
He's got my work on there too.
I hope that when Hubpages management can address this at a higher level when they become aware of it.
Is it just me, or is it weird that he has copied thousands of Hubs from thousands of people for weeks, our traffic died, and that guy was free, and today I try 1 hub and get 3 links to him. The 2nd thanks should be to Frogdropping for telling me to check copyrights in a post. If I didn't, we still wouldn't be aware.
~thranax~
I am not even going to look for my hubs. I will wait and see what the team can do first.
Look, your Hub shows before Hubpages does.
"There are some subjects one needs to know about to write tech stuff about, and engines are one of them.
My guess is it has been shelved and will not see the light of day because they cannot make it work." from Cars-driven-by-compressed-air
Now you pissed?
~thranax~
Please tell me how to file a report, mine are on another site.
If its been recently done, it would naturally outrank our hubs for the first couple of days, then fall deep into the sandbox for the rest of its copied life.
I dont know if Ive been copied, but none of my important hubs hae lost any ranking for the keywords I desired.
I could care less about a random text search, have you checked your rankings in regards to keywords?
Heres yours Sunforged:
Copy:
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/12960190/Wr … t-revenue1
Hub:http://hubpages.com/hub/Writing-for-money-online-maximizing-your-content-revenue
Any questions?
~thranax~
Yep, I found a few others to , they all have a big fat "O" next to views
i just searched by my profile name, lol http://www.docstoc.com/search/sunforged/?catfilter=1
For now. There are 400,000 about copied. With 250,000 views already. If you wait anther month and no one stops him, you might find they would have more. One of Jimmy's hubs has 257 views on it there.
~thranax~
Wow, it's taken me about an hour to get through all the pages of this thread, stopping a few times to search for my hubs over there....when I searched docster Q16899, all the "shifts" came up!
Sunforged - so can any hubber search for their content over there by using the link you posted (below) and replace hubber id?
http://www.docstoc.com/search/sunforged/?catfilter=1
No, take 2-3 lines of your Hub to Google and search it in " ". If it is copied it will pop up.
If google omitted results, click show.
~thranax~
thranax, since many of the hubs have been uploaded there over the past few days, they may not show up in Google yet.
Everyone I've looked at has at least one copied. In that many days, why wouldn't they copy everyone? Crank it out 24/7. Perhaps they spread it out over that many screenames to avoid detection.
I did find one of my articles had 14 views to their page..so now I am forced to crush this site <insert evil laughter>
So, Sunforged, you're always one of the most knowledgable (if not THE most knowledgable) about this type of thing. Any ray of "feel ok-ness" with this? I realize it's something that we're always subject to, but other than reporting it as many of us have already done, what else is there to do, but to carry on writing hubs?
The way I see it, if I stop publishing hubs, then yes, they have nothing more of mine to copy, but neither am I getting the hits I would be getting.
I guess my hope too is that the powers that be will take care of it fairly quickly. Obviously nothing is going to happen on a Sunday night and tomorrow is a holiday for many businesses in the US.
This process is very common, there are many sites that allow you to upload full files and folders such as this one in question (Scribd was another that was frequently used in this respect)
The scammers and black hatters that use these methods dont expect to get the full backlash of a communtity .
Unfortunately, no there is nothing ok about this - there are no backlinks back to our original articles, Sometimes I dont care if an article is copied, because they leave all my affiliate links in place and I still get traffic and another backlink, with this format there are no benefits for us as writers.
Hubpages should assist in cancelling any account associated with the URL trackers mentioned (I havent seen that yet), to remove incentive
first:
Everyone who cares should send copyright complaints to adsense
http://www.google.com/adsense_dmca.html
Threatening the websites earnings for failure to create a safe system should be first.
Then individually contacting the website (How annoying that we have to do this!)

With the size of our community, I wouldnt be surprised if every stolen article was down by Tuesday
well for docstoc -
there FAQ's state " What happens if I upload documents that I don’t have either own copyright for or have consent of copyright holder?
It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. In addition, we will promptly terminate without notice the accounts of those determined by us to be "repeat infringers". "
Heres the complaint link

He has 4 of mine.
Ironically, he has my 3 hubs which have never earnt me a cent. And they are my '50 Great Hubs chosen by 50 Great Hubbers' articles, and the 'Hubbers on Twitter directory'.
The other one however, about hard drives, is in my top 10 earning hubs. He hasnt had any views yet, but Im still pissed.
Maddie just popped up on a thread Ryan started.
Maybe some news soon
Or will Hubpages be totally down by Tuesday? Its almost like Hubpages has been hacked!
As far as I can tell, he got all of my hubs ... even the newest ones.
And yes ... this has adversely affected my traffic over the past few days ... my numbers were steadily climbing until this bozo started lifting my hubs
I know there were quite a few of early in this thread that filed complaints with DMCA, filed complaints with Google Adsense and some of us wrote emails to copyright@docstoc.com.
So, if enough of us do that, it'll be hard to ignore. Obviously, if upper management gets involved, as I'm sure they will, we should at least get some sort of result from this.
Right after the panic is over, hopefully this is sorted out with Docstoc.com and soon they act accordingly!!! night night need some sleep....got hubpages to try and publish tomorrow!!
Forgot to mention, so far I haven't found any of mine to have been copied, but I only searched a few pages - is there an easier way to search?
