You guys also need to check here, I just found this HP article by Trimar7 there (http://hubpages.com/hub/Laser-Back-Trea … -Bad-Backs) on it, too. Sure there are lots more.
http://www.sunday136.cn/
Good times, huh?
I have articles that were plagiarized there, too. Can't find any on Docstop yet.
Just found this one there by kerryg: http://hubpages.com/hub/Omega-3-Fatty-A … ual-Health
Kerryg, so far I've found 6 of yours there.
They even have some of mine. What is a DMCA and how do I file one?
Thanks sunforged for the link:
Heres the complaint link
http://www.docstoc.com/User/cmsstatic.aspx?page_id=100
I have just filed a DMCA. Now lets see what happens.
Wordscribe, don't need to say it, if you look back I have specific examples from hubbers. I also found ones for Hubbers who couldn't. We know there are hundreds and thousands of hubbers hubs there. Thats why they must be banned, we can't combat every single article.
~thranax~
I've found a different site, though, right?
Yup, and there are tons of sites each Hub might be on. Others on none. The one I found has tons of them, thats why it needs to be killed quickly. If you search all your Hubs you are likely to find one or two on other sites. It happens to everyone at some point most likely.
~thranax~
I've only searched google for maybe a dozen of mine so far and have not found any to be copied ... I guess that's good...unless I'm wrong!
Check back in a week -- if it hasn't been resolved by then. Most of their stolen content was uploaded over the past few days so may not be indexed yet.
Good point. I'll keep checking. So I shouldn't worry about my older hubs? Well, hopefully this will all be resolved soon.
But what's to stop this person from just creating new accounts under different aliases with that site or others and even with google??
Google requires a social security number in US and other kind of citizenship number for other countries. With a real name etc. If it doesn't have these, it won't pay out, leaving that guy with nothing to do unless he can keep getting legit adsense accounts.
~thranax~
There's lots of things a site like that can do.
Like preventing the posting of more than one article an hour to an account.
And preventing multiple accounts form the same IP address.
Sure, there are ways around this, but it would slow things down to the extent that it would not be worthwhile for an article spammer for do it.
cheers,
Eric G.
Quick update:
I have contacted DocStoc to resolve the situation, but of course it is also their weekend, so I cannot guarantee when I'll get a response. In the meantime, you can file DMCA complaints for any affected material, as I know many of you already have.
Rest assured we are working to sort this out as soon as possible.
Thanks Maddie, and I am sorry I posted so many Links in this thread, but it seemed this is so important that the rule would need to be bent for it.
~thranax~
It's not just docstop though, Maddie. This one also has tons of them. Could be the same person, don't see any way to contact anyone. http://www.sunday136.cn/
That looks unrelated, especially as all entries are isolated to May 2009.
That one isn't even ad supported? Maybe it has been rumbled already?
I noticed that, I have no friggin idea, but I'm pissed.
Jolly good I can definitley go to sleep now ......Maddies on the case!!!
Here is one of your Hubs there Maddie, I beleve:
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/12864146/Fr … p-Recipes1
~thranax~
You're my hero Maddie! If I could fit roses into my USB port, I'd be sending them to ya.
Just bringing this back to the forefront for you guys.
Here's the word from Maddie so far, remember guys it's only 9am at Hubpages HQ, on a Monday even, so give the awesome folks in the office there a chance to wipe the sleep from their eyes before getting too mad.
Get them some coffee and turn the dogs loose! lol
Know it's not usual but just a thought - could they have like a week-end staff or something to handle week-end problems? Seems to be that some of the problems being brought up in the past are brought out during the week-ends and we all just have to wait until Monday before these problems are seen, much less addressed. That's just a question, a request even for Hubpages admin to consider. Anyways, I'm off. Will dig this up tomorrow. Keep your cool guys and gals! Have faith in our Hubpages team. Go HP team!
Thank you Maddie, think I will wait a few days to see how this gets resolved, Thank you Thranax for the heads up.
I guess I found the largest Hub stealing outlet in Hubpages History? We didn't even know it, that's what gets me.
~thranax~
I barely dare look for any of my hubs as the idea of finding any of mine on there makes me feel physically sick. Even if he/she doesn't get adsense approval on their copied articles, people will still read them and therefore not read ours, so we still miss out on any potential revenue we may otherwise have received.
Wow,..I did a search on my hubs,..They have been reprinted on many differnet sites,..This is unbelievable,..some sites I wouldn't even want my name associated to it. Uggg,...This is not kewl,..
Yes, there will always be copiers for everything, but not to the scale as this site. These are rare and should be treated with more emphasis. The ones you found if they have ads file reports, if they are a membership site contact/DMCA them.
~thranax~
Just a thought, but I know there are many here who write for other sites, might want to check them for plagiarism also.

I mean, if I'm just supplying free content to thieves when I write for sites like HP, I need to take that into account in deciding how to use my energy. I love writing here, but what I mean is, I think it's not the smartest use of my energy as a writer, that's all.
If I'm just writing for other people I might as well WRITE for other people and get paid for it appropriately. Get my creative ya-yas out in fiction and so forth.
Just checked about 12 of my own articles, but none came up on Google, (other than my own hubpage links), although I haven't checked the offending site itself yet.
Must be the work of an idle my mind ... I say we get this person's email addy and sign him up on every gay porn site. (don't take me serious on this one - we don't want anyone getting into trouble)
He is probably already signed on the porn!
Second thought you are absolutely correct! lolololo oh well it will get resolved.
We have both been here a while AEvans, and know that we have a great team at hubpages. They will do all they can as soon as they can I reckon.
I agree it is the newbies that panic and the seasoned that just do what has to be done, report it to DMCA and let HP do the rest that is why I love it here and I am glad that you and I are on the same page. I will e-mail you about our new car OMG it is fabulous!! I wonder if they put some type of a leather scent in those cars that make you love them so much.
Nah!
They just use the best leather available!
I did find some of mine on the docstop site. Was darn near feelin' a little left out. Anyway, thanks Maddie for the fast response.
Thanks for the heads up... found one of mine so far. Also found that the article has been copied onto another site... they don't use google ads, but can they still be reported?
Thanks Thranax for discovering it and bringing it to our attention.
Thranax -- Thanks for bringing this to light (and blush some more!!)
I tried what you suggested, but one of my hubs is completely (including the photo) has been copied word for word onto another site:
http://buyu369.cn/?p=325
I haven't encountered being plaigerized before. What do I do??? Can you tell me how and what I should do?
Again, thanks for the heads up!!!
Beth
They don't have adsense so you can't report it there. If they are on blogger for free I would contact blogger with the Url and hopefully they can remove it. Yes, sometimes nothing much can be done about things.
~thranax~
I'm just sooo confused! I can't even find the home page for the site! The only option I can find is for what the document was written in.
Also, there are quite a few other hubbers' articles under this writer's account. I noticed them only because I have read them, unique photos and even in one it states "hubpages" in the writing.
Ugh! Sooooo lost as what to do now.... :[
The problem is thats a blogger account with its own URL. Thats all. Without adsense to cry to, there is nothing to ban. Even if they were banned from adsense- they don't need to remove the content. The only way to remove the content is from blogger.com saying someone at that URL had your copied content at yoururl.
~thranax~
File an infringement notice with the site, and with Adsense if they show Adsense ads. The links have already been given on the thread.
Thanks for getting onto this for us, Maddie. You're a gem.
I reported this through the DMCA as well. Mess with ole Yoshi, will they?
My deepest thanks to everyone who brought this issue to light and researched it so we could respond to this threat.
This goes to show ... as a family we definitely look out for ouw own.
The hub team will take care of it,so quit worrying and write another HUB
oooo creepy and so wrong! I can't believe that ppl are stupid enough to copy other ppl's work and try to pass it off as their own. Speaks volumes of their LAZINESS!!!!!!!
Yep found one of mine on docstoc WORD FOR FREAKIN' WORD! LAZY ASS PEOPLE PISS ME THE F*CK OFF!
A lot of mine aren't something I'd imagine being stolen; but I have a couple of hundred and don't even know where to begin to try to check. Is there a rhyme or reason to the types of Hubs that are likely to have been taken?
Yeah, that's how I felt when I found mine. Felt like leaving a cheeky comment too! Remember, we're better than they are -- we're writers, they're copy cats. We're leaders, they're followers.
Breathe!
I just found one of mine, and it is one of my better-traffic ones. The traffic has dropped dramatically recently.
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/12853352/Ma … or-is-Made
Here's a strange thing (maybe it isn't):
I took the first two lines of a Hub on percentages and did a Google search. Those exact two lines showed up on WikiAnswers:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_wo … f_a_number
The strange thing is I chose to use the word "general" ; which, to me, may have been the one word which would set off my words from any of the common answers to the question about finding percents. Is it me - or might there be something funny with this too?
Here's the lines:
In order to find x percent of any number the general way of doing that is to multiply the number by the percentage. Since percentage means hundredths of any number, percentages are written with the decimal point moved two places toward the left-hand side
I can see how a lot of people would use similar wording, but the "general" , to me, makes the wording exactly as I have it in my Hub.
Should I woosaaa it like from Bad Boys II? lol and yea I actually emailed the copyrite ppl of the website showing them that mine was written first hehehe arses! and it's by that same person Thranx was talkin about too...that weirdo shrine or whatever his name was
you know...i wouldn't be as upset as i am if they stole one of my 'lesser' hubs...but to steal my laura buxton one...i put a lot of heart into that one.
this #@!%^&^@ is getting money for these articles, that's obvious. i'm going to complain like everyone else but there's got to be something more i can do. why is this shiftn person still there?!
i feel like registering and posting somethng nasty on his (or her) profile!!!
I've just been assuming the decline in traffic was that the Hub ran its course; but this one Hub has been quite the contributor to my earnings.
I was so ready to do that myself...even if it was just to contact the person and lay it on him. lazy ppl I swear! Can you believe how lazy ppl are, Cosette?
they're disgusting.
ok you guys i have an idea...since this a$$clown is obviously not reading what he is STEALING, i am putting this in every single hub:
This article was written by cosette and published at hubpages.com. If you are not reading this article at hubpages.com, it is a stolen article.
(you can insert your own name obviously if you want to do this too. at least i won't feel so powerless).
The thief doesn't like my hubs which is a relief. Thanks for alerting us! I hope a Hubpages team member will put a stop to it, its awful!
well i have been copied also!
i copied their owner information what is being done?

New people like Crazd, go read all of the posts here. We went over this all day, I was here all day. There are 18 accounts with stolen Hubs, on the last 3 pages I listed all of them. There are a total of:
Of all the Shifts and the Q1 my totals are this:
Docs: 392,840
Views: 243,538 and rising about 10-1000 pageviews an hour PER account.
18 accounts found.
180-18000 pageviews an hour added to his/the sites account.
~thranax~
Anybody know have any idea how they are choosing which articles to take? I checked all 17 of my hubs and found 6 copies... I just don't understand how they choose which ones to take...just wondering
And great idea Cosette
I did read Thranax...we are just fuming and ranting that we have found our work stolen. we need to rant once in a while too ya know
Guys its a script. A spiderbot copies our text, the text is saved to a harddrive, the file is moved to the DocStoc automatic upload program. I answered all of this! Ughhhh!
" Docstoc Sync is a downloadable application that runs on your PC or Mac. You can select which folders you wish to sync with Docstoc. I like Cosette's idea but to get our names in it we should sayin something INSIDE the hub so it would be harder for them to cut out...like
"Old fashion writing sadly is being cut out because of the Internet as founded by myself, Crazwriter at Hubpages.com." it's in the text and hard to delete.
actually that is a good idea.
after i started copying my disclaimer i thought wow what if they are flagging "hubpages" and deleting any content with the word "hubpages" in it?
i hate to ruin the flow of my hubs but if this will be plastered there for all to see, including the site's owners where this little weasel posts, it might be worth it.
i don't know what to do now
Thranax is there any way to stop docstoc from getting our hubs?
Thats like saying you can't go to my hub right now, click "select all" and copy it to Word 2007. It can't be done. Anything online is always steal able, by text copying or by picture screenshot taking.
~thranax~
dammit! that is so not fair. we are losing views because of that stupid website
No worries, they have a few hundred complains, and the Hubpage team breathing down there neck now. They will ban the adsense accounts and hopefully remove the content. If not, at least they can't make money of it.
~thranax~
Update:
ShiftM gained 2,000 views over the last 7 hours.
Shift3 gained 300.
Shift4 gained around 2,000.
There increasing by a ton if thats the 3 random ones I chose to look at.
~thranax~
are the hub pages team working on this?
should i stop writing here?
I'm not wasting my time and energy.i wondered why my adsense stopped a week ago.
I feel sick!;(
It can happen anywhere you write online. Don't stop writing here because of this. If our problems are honored by the site and Adsense the content will be removed. If it isnt, the site makes a blacklist to google, ripping it out of all searches forever. Because google owns adsense
And yes, the hubteam is aware now and doing what they can.
~thranax~
All you can do is file a complaint with the DMCA, write the website at copyright@docstoc.com, and file a complaint with Google Adsense. You have to do this everytime you find someone copying your work. It won't ever stop. Everytime someone invents a way to prevent it, someone else will invent a way to hack around it. It's an age old problem, technology just makes it easier to do in bulk.
As Pgrundy and others pointed out, they've wrestled with this issue for years and are tired of filing the complaints and just take it in stride and look for alternative ways to generate revenue knowing that some of your revenue slips through your hands online.
I'm assuming this is a separate site, but when I tried to get to it my Firefox stalled and the PC got weird.
Anyway, it appears the first two lines of my Hub showed on these:
terpinnya.com/gaiaonli72/thastrele.html -
pkoqfsf.is-the-boss.com/how-to-s0d/jedindndi.html - S
and then somebody copied the whole (same) Hub onto a forum (which I know is a different thing but am wondering if that's just something we have to expect):
http://www.minimins.com/cambridge-diet- … lease.html
and then the same two lines showed up on some fitness-related URL, but I got "page not found".
That is expected everywhere online. Fourms are a different story, harder to remove. The good thing is, it isn't creating anyone money. The member sites you can complain to will be easier to remove the content. The blogs and soloers are almost imposable.
~thranax~
Basically, there tactic is a farming one. Use scripts to get as many attractive pages as possible to get clicks. They know they will be caught, but they might still get away with a few $1,000 from there efforts before being banned.
~thranax~
Maddie and Ryan H. are aware of it. You have to remember it's Sunday night with Monday being a U.S. holiday for many businesses. Nothing will probably happen until Tuesday. If we're lucky we may see something tomorrow. Hopefully, enough people complaining will get someone's attention when they show up for work whenever that is.
this person has an adsense account. i just registered over there to leave a comment on his profile and it says:
Want to make extra money with the documents sitting on your computer? Join our DocCash program and we’ll split the advertising revenue (50/50) from all of the documents you upload to Docstoc.
All you need is a Google AdSense account to join. Don’t have one yet? That’s okay - we’ll help you set one up. It's easy.
so they are getting a truckload of money off of their stolen articles. this is criminal and they are not going to get away with it. i am going to contact the site's owners and make them get that person's IP address...if they have an adsense account they have to give them their personal information. yes it is cyberspace but i believe nowadays local police CAN get involved
Please read the posts. We known they had adsense since 2pm eastern.
This is there plan for people who missed it 3 times:
Basically, there tactic is a farming one. Use scripts to get as many attractive pages as possible to get clicks. They know they will be caught, but they might still get away with a few $1,000 from there efforts before being banned.
~thranax~
This site is held responsible for its content if it doesn't remove it after being asked to. The site can go to court for it if it doesn't delete all accounts of stolen content.
~thranax~
I was about to post here that I did not find any of my hubs when I saw one of my hubs about ways to earn passive income. Jeeezzz, that's my hub with the highest traffic.
Not to sound insensitive or something but I have to laugh when I read my hub posted in that site. They copied everything, and I mean everything, including the amazon links on the right side. It was really weird when I read the whole thing because there smack in the middle are the titles of the books from amazon and their prices.
That's what Thranax is trying to tell you folks, it's not a person sitting at a computer hitting right click and pasting them one by one. This is being done in bulk with computer programming. It doesn't notice things like what you're talking about. Content is content. It's picking it up and feeding it to that site and at a rapid rate. But they have to be quick because they know they will be caught. You get in, make your money, get banned, and start again.
Hmm. Interesting business model. Would make a good hub. Now what shall i call it... "internet mafia".
Not found any of mine yet. Guess my content not attractive for them.
Great team work all. No matter where you do business you will have to cope with pilferage etc. But this is blatant and HP ought to move quickly to protect the platform here. I like the idea of non-copyable text.
Cosette: File a complaint with DMCA, it's at the bottom of docstoc's website. Give the url's of yours and the copied ones. Then, you'll get an email confirmation of that complaint. Forward that complaint to copyright@docstoc.com. Then, file a complaint with Google Adsense giving them all of the same information.
That's all you can do. According to Maddie, she has already filed a complaint with docstoc.
We believe at this time, because of the US holiday on monday, or the fact its the weekend, no one is working at DocStoc and therefore will not do anything until monday or tuesday.
~thranax~
Thanks Shinu for summarizing everything I said all day in detail in one little post. I'm happy some people are understanding me. There are 18 accounts if you go 1 or 2 pages back, that stole a total of about 390,000 articles that resulted in a 250,000 pageview gain and rising.
