Did hubpages remove tags when creating a new hub? It no longer gives me the option to input tags...
I'd like to know this too! I just went to update an old hub and there was no option to edit the tags ... there was no tags tab at all. Hope the tags haven't been removed. Maybe Google doesn't like them ...
Yes, there was a notice sent out regarding this a few days ago. It's a change that was made from the Hubpages team, it's nothing that anyone writing made 'disappear', so you can relax about that. My understanding is it was an internal tag used by HP, not by google, so they just updated the start of the hubs. They still require the summary, however.
If you want to read more about it, I believe there is a forum written by Simone. I'm sorry, but I can't recall which area it was in...probably the notices or tutorials. Hope this helps clear things for you. It is a bit odd not to see it there now, isn't it? I'm still not quite used to it, but grateful they are gone...I always doubted I was using them correctly. Best wishes to you.
I just found the info: it's in the blog (on the first page where the hub of the day awards are shown); and it is in Dec. 5th HP Weekly Newsletter. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your helpful answer and for providing the place where the info is found!
Yes, Silver Q, Hubpages did indeed remove tags. They recently "retired" both the tags and the RSS Capsule option.
Yes, they just sent a newsletter about it. They said they have been using their own tagging system for a while now and are removing that option to avoid redundancy.
I thought much of search success came from well chosen tags. So now hubpages does that for us?
Here are the two links for further clarification:

I guess I have mixed feelings about the removal of tags. I always thought they helped readers to find our work by Google. I have to admit I did struggle to come up with tags that I thought relevant. I never knew to use just words or "long tailed" tags. When I read other articles on the internet, they usually show tags.
I trust HubPages to know what is in our best interests in getting traffic.
According to Hubpages, they have done us a favor! One less step for us to worry about. Instead they have a system to scan the Hub for key words and phrases. I would suggest doing a search for your articles and see what comes up.

Fellow Squid refugees, as many of us come to the end of our first full month on HubPages, I'm wondering how those edits are coming. What's been your process for slogging through the old lenses, to turn them into shiny...
