Can I post affiliate links on my own posts? for example lets sayI'm a BlueHost affiliate, can I put that affiliate link on my blog post? Also, If my title is "how to start a blog" if someone on google search up "how to start a blog" is it possible my article will be there? I know I'd have to do keyword research and all that juicy SEO stuff but lets say I've done that.

I agreed with NathB11. The link is good for your blog.

No. If you are linking to a third-party site for an affiliate program, that is not allowed.

Are you sure about that? If yes, maybe the FAQs need to change. We were allowed to add our own affiliate links before. Also, when I create a link I am asked if it is an affiliate link, if it is, it is set up as a no-follow link.

The section that talks about this is found here: https://hubpages.com/faq/#linksnofollow

Here it states that in some topics one is not allowed to include affiliate links, which would mean that you are in some cases. I assume in the case of the OP it would not be allowed as that tends to be a region with a lot of affilates and spammy (non-original) content. https://hubpages.com/faq/#content-warning

This is on similar lines and says some websites may be allowed, clickbank for example is not https://hubpages.com/faq/#prohibitedlinks

This also suggests that two links to a domain are still allowed: https://hubpages.com/faq/#overly_promotional

Under "How does hubpages define spam" https://hubpages.com/faq/#Spammy-Elements it says "*Affiliate links and links to lead form pages are not spammy if they go to high-quality sites, are directly related to the subject matter of an article, and benefit the reader."

I would like to know if things have changed because I am in conversation with some manufacturers of the fertilizers I suggest. Amazon now pays cents when it was a few dollars for each sale prior to the changes in their affiliate structure.

I don't think any promotional links are allowed. An article about "how to start a blog" is unlikely to rank high in search results and unlikely to get much traffic, there's too much competition.

    Does it say that anywhere?

If you're referring to affiliate links, Samantha has told you the answer. She's a member of the HubPages staff and knows how the site operates. If you want more information about the Earnings Program, you could read the article from the Learning Center in the link below. It tells us that we can only use the HubPages Ad Program and the Amazon program to earn money.

Adding links for promotional purposes is not allowed—this includes third-party affiliate links and promotional links for SEO purposes. Don’t add any link unless you genuinely recommend it. If you are doing it to promote, or it feels promotional, then don’t include it.

I encourage you to check out the link Alicia included. It is very useful for getting set up on HubPages.

What if there's no link involved? E.g. A photo with product info, company names/logos and contact details?

Yes, as long as there is no self-interest in the promotion.

Well there would be if we did deals with manufacturers to promote products, so that option is clearly ruled out.
