Has anyone done this yet? https://hubpages.com/community/forum/35 … structions

I just copied the instructions to follow as I try to go through it. Let me know who has been successful. I think we have to do this within the next week.

I wish I could be more optimistic about this venture. But I failed miserably. Matt said I should start over. I haven't yet.

Janis, I also had the same problem as you. For in that post or announcement, I question who has made it.                                      Seriously, and not satisfied, I contact team@hubpages, for a direct link to ease the complication. Till date I still don't know what the  G4 is all about.                                        Initially, my hope was that hubpages had to set it up for every writer. But it was no longer so.

Same here, Meibakagh, I thought they would handle it for us. I'm not tech savvy at all. I try my best to figure things out but this one is a lot.

Google automatically converted Universal Analytics to GA4 on July 1st 2023. See link.

Oh. neutral Okay, thanks. So I can ignore that email? I don't have to do anything?

Edit: This is at the top of my Google Analytics page:
"This property is scheduled to stop processing data very soon. Once this goes into effect, you’ll need a Google Analytics 4 property to measure website performance."
In a red box at top right, it says, "Convert to G4."

Matt, should I ignore all of this?

If your Univeral Analytics account is connected to HubPages, you could click convert to GA4 and follow these instructions (Don't skip step #4). I'm not sure why yours hasn't converted. Maybe Google means they started conversion on July 1st and are still working on it.

Also, keep in mind that you can't add a new GA4 account to your HubPages account. You had to have an active Universal Analytics account connected to HubPages before the conversion. We are working on implementing the ability to add a new GA4 account to HubPages, but I don't have any expected completion date yet.

Thanks Matt, so it was as I thought, we can't add code to a webpage we don't own.  I think I also saw that unless we have a GA4 account no advertising can be added to our pages.  If this is so, won't it affect earnings for both us and also HubPages?  Maybe speed is of the essence.

Just checked my analytics page via HubPages and notice that the only stats I have now are those related to my own webpage and not Hubpages.  I no longer have HubPages stats.  Clearly I have done something wrong but how to fix that!

Matt, does that means that if a writer here don't have GA or UA, he or she can wait for hubpages to implement the analytic in future?

Many like me here are still finding it hard  to implement implement the basic G4 analytics.

We will work on the ability to add new GA4 accounts to HubPages, but I do not have a timeframe for that.

Janis - I certainly won't bother. These create-an-account instructions are impossible to follow unless you have a doctorate in computer engineering. Suppose you are suitably equipped educationally, what then?

You will get priceless information about how many left-handed Nubian farmers read your article of the care and feeding of rutabagas.

Believe me, Rupert, I have no clue. I was hoping to be encouraged by someone who did it already.

Yes, but I'm still using Universal Analytics although Google say they'll be disabling it soon. GA4 reports are terrible. They don't do any of the things we were used to. Apparently it's possible to recreate some of the reports we were familiar with, but I don't know how. For instance the Real Time report doesn't show traffic as it comes in, there's a delay of 5 minutes or something and the report windows are tiny and don't show the full URLs. Windows can't be maximised or unwanted windows removed.

Ugh. So, even if I figure out how to configure it, it may not be worth the time. So what will happen if we don't do it? We won't be able to view our Google stats anymore?

  4. Jodah profile image91

Like Rupert, I won’t be bothering. I have trouble understanding the current version, and just see it all as too complicated and not worth the trouble.

Thanks, John. I'll take a look, then stop if I get flustered. Actually, I already got flustered when I opened the email and tried to do it. That's why I looked for Matt's forum post and copied the instructions. Honestly, I really don't feel like being bothered. I rarely check my Google stats anyway.

You should be able to sign into your Analytics to see your stats and your GA4 property if you have set it up.

Never used GA. I rely on the numbers on my stats page and on individual hubs when I need to see where a surge is coming from.

Sally, If is the operative word. My GA4 is saying my HubPage will not connect.

    1. sallybea profile image96
sallybeaposted 7 months agoin reply to this

I managed to do it on my own webpage with the help of my web master but it required me getting a small piece of code from my google analytics page which I in turn passed onto my web master who pasted it onto my web pages.  After a couple of hours, I could see it functioning.  I can't see how one could do this on hubpages as we can't post code onto pages on hubpages that we don't control.  I would have thought that Hubpages would have to do it.  This is rather like the blind leading the blind.

Sally, Yes. GA4 recommends I add the code, but I can't do that as you wrote. Matt Wells, any wise and doable wisdom?

Most likely, the issue was skipping step #4 by accident.

sallybeaposted 7 months agoin reply to this

Matt, do you mean step#4 of the instructions you posted to enable us to achieve this?  Also, if I have the GA4 present already in my account, is it still necessary to create another for HubPages?

            1. Matt Wells profile imageSTAFF
Matt Wellsposted 7 months agoin reply to this

Yes, step #4 in the instructions I linked to. The checkbox was supposed to be checked to enable data collection using existing tags. If you had an existing Universal Analytics account connected to HubPages, it was automatically converted to GA4 on July 1st. You cannot add a new GA4 account to HubPages at the moment.

I am not seeing Hubpages anywhere on my analytics page, only my sallybea.com whereas I am pretty sure that previously the link from my accounts on Hubpages under earnings always showed stats for traffic from HubPages.
