So I've just noticed there are no redirects from links we've posted on the Internet to network site articles. So we've lost all our backlinks and work we've spent sharing those links everywhere.
I don’t see what the problem is here. I have created hundreds of PetHelpful pins and they all direct to Discover HubPages as they should when clicked.
Maybe setting up the redirects is work in progress and not all of the changes have been completed yet? I checked a Skyaboveus pin and it redirects while none of the Dengarden ones do,
I checked what was my best Dengarden article and yes, you're absolutely right, no redirect. This is a major problem! It had many incoming links from various sources when it was on Dengarden. Those sources have probably flagged it as a 404 broken link and deleted it from their sites by now. No wonder it hardly gains any traffic these days. Have you reported the problem to team@hubpages.com?
Maybe I'm overly suspicious but it's almost like they're deliberately trying to break this site.
No, but I presume they look at this because it's in the "technical questions" category of the forums.
Have you noticed this issue with other redirects besides Dengarden to Discover?
Matt, the problem might relate to the fact that since Thursday, October 31st, 2024, TAG began “operating Dengarden and PetHelpful as standalone sites within The Arena Group,” as Lisa Winter posted in the forum. That could have affected the support of 301 redirects from those two domains. Redirects from other network sites that were left under the control of HubPages work fine.
I've just checked one that had been on Exemplore. It works fine and goes to Discover.
It may just be an issue with Dengarden to Discover redirects, which we are already working on.
I am only seeing the issue with Dengarden. Thanks for looking into this, Matt!
I'll look into this and see what the issue is.
Pethelpful redirects are broken again. Matt, please can you fix this?
Send an example to team@hubpages.com please.
I have emailed 2 examples to you, Matt.
Please understand that these redirects seem to be broken for all PetHelpful articles that were moved to Discover - which is A LOT, not just mine.
I know you'll do your best to fix this, but the longer this problem persists, the more damage is done. Referrers are very quick to delete broken links forever. So, this is pretty much killing off our backlink campaign.
I was worried that might happen. I hoped the links would automatically move to Discover but I guess not.
So if you or other people have pinned stuff or posted links on social media, all that traffic will likely disappear.
Oh! I didn't think of it. So, you need to start again linking the articles from Discover if you want to promote them.
Thanks for letting me know.
I'm thinking it may be deliberate to keep people on network sites that will be assimilated. I notice too that all the links on Pinterest that go to other network sites have somehow disappeared. E.g. Turbofuture ones. Does Pinterest remove dead links? I usually check pins after pinning, so I don't think I could have left out the link on all of them. There are two types of pins, ones that are created on the website and images directly pinned from websites. Usually the latter have a link that appears on cursor hover-over, whereas the others have a link below the about text. Possibly Pinterest are removing the hover-over link/tap link if it's giving a 404.The Dengarden pins are giving a 404 on the Dengarden website when the link is visited.
"If a Pin leads to a blank page, we might automatically replace that link with a more useful one."
https://help.pinterest.com/en/article/fix-a-broken-link
Probably the same for 404s. I've queried this with them.
If a bunch of links to the network sites are taken away it would harm the network sites a bit more than a dead link I guess. Crappy thing to do to the authors if this is intentional.
I had updated all my pins when my articles were moved to discover. I’m glad I did. You can still do that now. It’s a lot of work but worth the time if you’d been getting traffic from Pinterest.
It’s a shame that TAG has taken over many of the network sites for themselves and now posting their own content that looks like it’s AI generated. If it’s not a bug and they are truly shutting down 301 redirects, that indicates they are eliminating any existing HubPages content on their platform.
Pinterest is blocking all my URL edits now. I think it's behaving like Facebook and I must have triggered a spam filter.
When I updated my pins it blocked me after doing ten at a time. But when I went back to it a couple of days later, I was able to update another ten. It seems they only let you change URLs on ten pins in a session. So, Eugene, try waiting a few days and try again.
Yes, I noticed that. I think I was able to change some after around an hour though.
That’s good to know for those who still need to change their URLs. I never tried continuing after just an hour. I always waited a few days to change more. Anyway, I’m done now, having changed all my URLs of hubs that were moved to discover.
To the other point, I always made my pins directly in Pinterest so that I had more control over how they looked with images I created specifically for Pinterest. That’s why I was able to change the URLs. But you’re right that pins made from the “pin it” button can’t be changed.
I agree. If you're going to pin, it's worth putting in the effort to create pins. Using the button is quick and easy but it's generally less effective at getting traffic.
I think I will focus on updating the URLs for the pins with most traffic. While there are some success stories, I have a lot of pins that get zero or negligible engagement.
I feel I have to justify any time and effort I put in nowadays when it comes to HP.
So, you guys are going into your Pinterest account and manually changing the links?
You can only do it for created pins on the Pinterest website. It's not possible for saved pins made directly from a website by clicking on the "Pin it" button on images. I don't know whether I really want to go to the trouble of changing all my pins. Max traffic was only 200 per day in any case, so hardly worth it. Maybe Matt will tell us whether something can be done about this, although I guess no more major work is likely to be done on the site apart for keeping it alive, temporarily at least.
Well that's good news if it's just a glitch and we don't have to do lots of resharing.
I think this is working now at least on any of the Dengarden pins I've checked
Please send examples to team@hubpages.com and I will take a look.
I recently sent a list of links that are returning a 404 error, and I’m concerned there may be additional ones affected. I hope this issue can be resolved soon. Thank you for your time and willingness to assist.

I notice I still have some articles published on Hubpages.com. What's the story about those? Are they visible and indexed on the web? The URLs are appearing in a search, so they must be.

I know there are several issues with this. Firstly, the network sites can't link back to Hubpages because of the reputation of the site and it being sort of a taboo domain to link to as regards Google (Is this a permanent problem, or does a site "get out of jail" eventually?) Also some...

Do network sites provide any advantage to our articles? If so, how?A number of my articles have been moved to various network sites, but some articles are linked with hubpages.com/discover and some with just hubpages.com. Are the non-network ones suffering some kind of disadvantage? Thanks — Lyndon

I noticed several non-articles on Discover that are simply lists of words in another language, so I thought I'd get on the bandwagon. My spoof offering is foreign words for rutabagas. https://discover.hubpages.com/education … -languages I really thought the Klingon word for rutabaga, “dung”,...

I am starting a thread so writers can inform each other about articles being moved to existing network sites. I am happy to say that one of the articles I submitted about a month ago was moved from Discover to WonderWisdom today. Is anyone else having articles moved to network sites?
