I noticed several non-articles on Discover that are simply lists of words in another language, so I thought I'd get on the bandwagon.
My spoof offering is foreign words for rutabagas.
https://discover.hubpages.com/education … -languages
I really thought the Klingon word for rutabaga, “dung”, would tip off the digital editor—but no. The nonsense was quickly featured and placed on Discover within 36 hours. This merry little jape proves that Discover is a dumping place for rubbish.
If this posting doesn't doesn't lead to “Rutabaga in Various Languages” being taken down, I'll remove it myself once I've decided I've had enough fun.
Wouldn't want to sully the good name of the platform with Google's algorithm would we?
I don't know if this is funny or sad. Poking fun doesn't help.
It can help. Actually, here's the funny side of the rooty rutabaga. Seriously, the late Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth 11, used to take a bite of the ruta, along with wine to the envy of Rupert! She adds underground mushrooms and fish, once a year to the delicacy...and that once a year during Christmas. Happy Christmas, everyone!
I'd stop worrying about Discover. Your goal should be to get your articles to Network Sites.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry, Rupert. Only you could think of doing an experiment such as this, but I think you certainly proved your point about Discover. This does have educational value though.
For education, it could be used along with the article "25 Fruits Name in Romanian" for elementary or middle school classes of some sort. Cheers!
Do you remember all the flap in a southern state (I forget which one but seems like it was on the east coast) over a custom license plate "Kumquat" that was recalled because someone complained that it was a "dirty word"? It took some real doing for the owner of the plate to convince state officials that it was only a fruit like a kiwi or a plum. Maybe we really have sunk this low. Thanks for pointing it out, Rupert.
Gobsmacked am I to receive notification that "Rutabagas in foreign languages" is eligible for promotion to Owlcation. All that's needed is an additional 500 words and I can join such exalted texts as "25 fruits in Polish/Danish/Spanish."
My original aim was to draw attention to the rubbish on Discover, but the issue has now escalated to network sites.
I will not be adding text to the nonsense I posted in order to get it onto Owlcation. In fact, I will be deleting it as I don't want my name attached to it because its purpose has been misconstrued.
Don't delete it! Just change the title to "Rutabaga II: Electric Boogaloo."
Danged if the stupid thing isn't drawing some modest traffic.
Actually Matt, it's not binary. I am quite capable of worrying about the nonsense that is deemed suitable for Discover and working on getting my articles onto Network Sites. I can walk and whistle at the same time as well. Quite the multitasker.
I have articles lurking on Discover for reasons that are not entirely clear to me, and I don't care for some of the company they are forced to keep. That's why the lack of standards for Discover bother me.
Yes Patty, Owlcation. Not only that, but the pieces that triggered my indignation that were on Discover are now on Owlcation. So, apparently, a list of words in a foreign language qualifies as a "stellar article of the highest quality" and deemed worthy of placing on a network site.
My next project will be 20 Swahili words for snow and ice.
I don’t often use “ridiculous” with respect to HubPages, but this is. Whenever I want to know a word in another language, I use Google Translate. There are lots of languages built into the utility, and it’s easy to use. Unless the writer is using a language that it doesn’t cover, I don’t see the point in a word translation article.
"My next project will be 20 Swahili words for snow and ice."
Perfect!
I’ve seen stuff on the network sites that is factually inaccurate. It bugs me to see and I’ve written in about it but nobody cared.

Just now I wanted to comment on an article by Nell Rose on LetterPile.com but was unable to comment. I am already logged in to HubPages.com but can't log in to LetterPile. Why it is so? Why there is no button either for logging into that platform or any button for posting my comment on that post of...

Hello fellow hubbers, I am a bit confused about how discover works. According to the official announcement new articles that pass the quality assessment tests are to be moved to discover. However, my latest featured article is stuck on hubpages. Is traffic also required to get my hub moved to...

So I've just noticed there are no redirects from links we've posted on the Internet to network site articles. So we've lost all our backlinks and work we've spent sharing those links everywhere.

Do network sites provide any advantage to our articles? If so, how?A number of my articles have been moved to various network sites, but some articles are linked with hubpages.com/discover and some with just hubpages.com. Are the non-network ones suffering some kind of disadvantage? Thanks — Lyndon
