Where is everyone? I've been concerned but not taking time to express. Is everyone giving up on HubPages? I'm working on a new article, but is that a waste of time? What does the future look like? Please chime in.
HP has gone downhill since The Arena Group took over. Earnings and views have plummeted. Some folks are still posting but many have left entirely.
The only updates we get are that TAG is kidnapping your articles for another site unless you tell them not to take our articles by such and such a date. When the articles are kidnapped, the authors of the articles will not earn any revenue.
The other update is from Matt: HP is not going away.
Hubpages is clearly moving away from a revenue share approach. It's a good time to save your hubs and find a new home for them.
The received wisdom seems to be that HubPages is going down the crapper, although Matt Wells (the only employee we ever hear from) says it's not going away.
Thing is, if you are looking for income you'll do better selling pencils on the street. My own goal is to keep my brain functioning by writing, something I've done for a living all my life.
As far as I can tell, there are no longer any other platforms like this one (there used to be several). This is where I can publish efforts while trying not to think about being exploited, but I'm fairly sure somebody is making more money from my work than I am. But, it's always been that way.
On the plus side, HubPages pays for my coffee habit and, in a good month, an occasional lunch.
I think it probably is not going away as a brand. However, as a serious way to earn money as a content provider, it may already have gone away.
Yes, exactly. They've made multiple public announcements saying they no longer believe in the shared revenue model and all their recent actions have been consistent with this.
Even if you're still earning something here, which I am, there's no future.
It is up to you to decide. If you are thinking of earning by writing here, better look for other options. But if you keep writing for writing's sake, you can continue sharing your thoughts and experiences.
I am a daily visitor. If something appeals to me, I keep reading it.
I'm not sure what the point of putting something into the public domain is, though, if hardly anyone's going to read it.
I think for people who're writing without consideration for earnings, there are many alternatives available out there. It may be wise to explore those options now because I don't believe this site is going to be around for much longer.
HP's been in constant decline for a few years, and, if anything, the decline is accelerating.
The decline doesn't just affect those who're seeking earnings, like me, in my opinion. It affects anyone who wants their writing to be seen.
Thanks for all this feedback. I did contact the site to have them move my travel articles from WanderWisdom to the main site. And since that was done, I'm actually get more hits than before, recently anyway. So I guess my goal is like many of yours--I enjoy writing and sharing. And I like being able to tell people I meet where they can see my articles. So I guess I'll stick with it for a while and continue to work on my new article about Lake Powell. (Venkatachari M, hope some of mine appeal to you.)
PaulGoodman67, where are the "many alternatives available"? I would be interested. My writers group had analyzed our motivations and decided that the goal was to "share the story." And I AM getting to do that on here. I've had over 14,000 clicks (although many no doubt just look at the pictures and don't read the articles). But I enjoy knowing that many folks have partaken of what I've published on here. And maybe I've inspired some folks to go travel!

Thank you for all of your contributions to HubPages over the past many years. You may have noticed that the HubPages operation is in a stage of transition as we move many of your articles back to Discover.HubPages from our network domains. This decision was made to try to capitalize on the...

There’s so much talk about Medium and how great it is. After all these years I’m still a huge hubpages fan. It’s more laid back and passive income from a website that’s been around for so long is more valuable than anything. I even reached out to hubpages and they let me know that if I passed away...

I was just curious for those of you who write for Medium and/or Substack, how your earnings compare to what you make on Hubpages. Do you think it's worthwhile writing for these sites? I look forward to everyone's insight. Thank you.

I am writing articles for this website since past 3 months. At present, I have 38 featured and published hubs. I have joined for Amazon and google Adsense program. Past two months I earned like very less amount, less than 1/2 dollar. If I continue writing and publishing at the rate of one article...

I have been writing at Howtodothings.com which, like Hubpages, shares 50% adsense ad revenue. This site has now stopped sharing this revenue with its members. I believe there is no official announcement to it. <snipped - no promotion of links in the Forums>CVR
