I tried to post a complete version of this before, but for some reason, HubPages kept removing the links and parts of my post. So here’s a shorter version of the original message, without links and without my note to HubPages.

    To My Fellow HubPages Writers

With HubPages closing its doors soon, many of us are feeling that familiar mix of sadness, nostalgia, and “what comes next?” A lot of Hubbers have already moved to Medium, and many more are thinking about it now, so I wanted to share something personal.

Back in 2022, I started my own journey on Medium. I wasn’t alone.
John Hansen, Andrea Lawrence, Pamela Oglesby (RIP), and Linda Lum came with me, and together we launched The Hub Publication. I may have founded it, but it only became a true community because they trusted me and stood beside me. I’m deeply grateful to each of them for helping build something meaningful.

Since then, The Hub Publication has grown into a warm corner where former HubPages writers still gather, encourage each other, and keep that old community spirit alive. Today, The Hub Publication has grown into a beautiful space with over 1,500 writers and 6.9k followers

So if you’re planning to join Medium after HubPages shuts down. You’re warmly invited to write with us at The Hub Publication.
You can find our guidelines at the top of our homepage.

Wishing everyone a gentle transition. smile

Hi Misbah, I fully intend to join you and John and the rest over on Medium.  I'll be writing with the pen name Canute Limarider.  Looking to submit my application soon for The Hub Publication.  I think I'm sorry I missed your transition to there three years ago.  Anyway...see you over on Medium!

Wow! That’s wonderful news! I’m really happy to hear that you plan on joining us on Medium. Canute Limarider is such an intriguing pen name. I’m excited to see your work under it!

I’ll be looking forward to your application to The Hub Publication. And don’t worry at all about missing my transition three years ago, what matters is that we’ll finally get to connect and write together now.

Your kindness is deeply appreciated, my friend! See you soon on Medium! smile

Thank you for the tip about Medium.  I was afraid HubPages was the last of the writing farms.

A few years ago I tried Medium and earned a tad over $3 over the course of 12 months. I posted several dozen articles but concluded the stuff I write doesn't work on that platform.

I didn't see the point of spending $60 to post articles. There are scores of places where I can do that for free.

I'm trying out Wizzley, where I used to write, but it seems to be moribund although I've posted a couple of pieces that have recorded views.

    Any wisdom on offer?

Misbah786posted 11 days agoin reply to this

Give it another try, Rupert!! Medium’s system has changed a lot since you left. Right now, they’re rewarding writers for bringing in external traffic, especially from search engines and social media. Posting your story links elsewhere and attracting outside readers actually works in your favor now.

When you were on Medium earlier, the criteria were completely different — everything depended on internal traffic and “reads for reads.” That’s no longer the case.

And you don’t need to pay the full $60 upfront. Just join for a month first and pay monthly. I’m sure your style of storytelling fits perfectly with Medium’s current criteria.

You’re more than welcome to join The Hub Publication. I’d truly love to see you writing under The Hub. smile

I've just spent four hours turning my saved ones into pdf's. Not sure what to do with them, but may make some into ebooks. It is going to be really weird not checking in here, but we have had a good run. Good luck to everybody whatever you are all planning on doing.

Nell, that must’ve taken so much work, turning everything into PDFs is a great idea, and ebooks sound wonderful. Yes, it will feel strange not checking in here, but you’re right, we’ve had a good run. Wishing you the best in whatever you choose next.

And if you ever decide to write on Medium, feel free to check out The Hub Publication,  you’d be very welcome there. smile

    Hey Misbah!
So glad to see this post. I want everyone to know that I'm on Medium and joined the Hub Publication in 2023-24. Misbah, John, and others have done a lot to grow the blog. I'm happy to be included. I've posted a couple poems on the Hub Publication and will do more when I'm intentional about making the time.
Thank you, Misbah for being the good friend you are. See you on Medium.

I thought I posted something on this thread. Therefore, it must have been on another thread.

I am, already,  a member at Medium for some years (not the paid one). But I haven't written anything on this platform, except three articles till now. I keep reading one or two articles that appeal (mostly free ones) or the snippets allowed there.

I can see where it's a superior business model for the platform owners then HubPages.  It seems a poor business model for writers.  I don't suppose there are any other paying platforms available.

Robert - I joined Medium a week ago and, and I've learned that the thing to do is get your articles onto "Publications" that are empowered to recommend your work for a "Boost." But, I'm running into difficulties.

What I desperately need is a writers' forum but there doesn't seem to be one.

    1. Misbah786 profile image75
Misbah786posted 19 hours agoin reply to this

Hi Rupert, I can definitely understand that when you are new to Medium, it can feel like stepping into a maze.

You’re right that getting your work into publications helps with visibility, but the Boost system can be confusing at first. Not every publication nominates, but The Hub Publication does help identify and nominate pieces that are genuinely boost-worthy, so if your work fits our themes, you’re very welcome to submit.

Still, I want you to know that "Boost" is not something that will help you in the long run. What helps a lot is connecting with other writers. While Medium doesn’t have an official writers’ forum, there are active communities where writers support each other, share advice, and learn the platform together.

A few places you might find helpful:

Medium’s Discord communities (several exist, run by writers)

      Facebook groups for Medium writers

Slack communities created by longtime Medium authors

If you’d like, I can point you to a few good ones.

You’re not alone in this, Rupert, and trust me, it gets easier once you find your circles, and with a bit of guidance. smile

You can read The Hub Publication guidelines here: https://thehubpublication.com/write-for … 1189d5e011

And can join our team by filling out the form at the end of the story. Hope this helps smile
