I tried to post a complete version of this before, but for some reason, HubPages kept removing the links and parts of my post. So here’s a shorter version of the original message, without links and without my note to HubPages.
To My Fellow HubPages Writers
With HubPages closing its doors soon, many of us are feeling that familiar mix of sadness, nostalgia, and “what comes next?” A lot of Hubbers have already moved to Medium, and many more are thinking about it now, so I wanted to share something personal.
Back in 2022, I started my own journey on Medium. I wasn’t alone.
John Hansen, Andrea Lawrence, Pamela Oglesby (RIP), and Linda Lum came with me, and together we launched The Hub Publication. I may have founded it, but it only became a true community because they trusted me and stood beside me. I’m deeply grateful to each of them for helping build something meaningful.
Since then, The Hub Publication has grown into a warm corner where former HubPages writers still gather, encourage each other, and keep that old community spirit alive. Today, The Hub Publication has grown into a beautiful space with over 1,500 writers and 6.9k followers
So if you’re planning to join Medium after HubPages shuts down. You’re warmly invited to write with us at The Hub Publication.
You can find our guidelines at the top of our homepage.
Wishing everyone a gentle transition. ![]()
Hi Misbah, I fully intend to join you and John and the rest over on Medium. I'll be writing with the pen name Canute Limarider. Looking to submit my application soon for The Hub Publication. I think I'm sorry I missed your transition to there three years ago. Anyway...see you over on Medium!
Wow! That’s wonderful news! I’m really happy to hear that you plan on joining us on Medium. Canute Limarider is such an intriguing pen name. I’m excited to see your work under it!
I’ll be looking forward to your application to The Hub Publication. And don’t worry at all about missing my transition three years ago, what matters is that we’ll finally get to connect and write together now.
Your kindness is deeply appreciated, my friend! See you soon on Medium! ![]()
Thank you for the tip about Medium. I was afraid HubPages was the last of the writing farms.
Misbah786? Has there been any official announcement that HubPages intends to shut down its website? I've read a lot of talk about it here on HubPages, but I haven't come across any official announcement to that effect. I'm asking, because perhaps there may be hope that somebody will buy out HubPages and get it operating back at a healthy level.
It's gone already.

Thank you, Bev. I haven't been keeping up with the latest news regarding HubPages as much as I should. I have noticed that when I go into my statistics, it no longer allows me to change the order of my articles in any fashion. I did back up each and every article of mine not too long ago, but I have made some changes on a few of my articles since then. So, I guess I'm going to need to check the date that I did the massive backup of my articles and back up everything additionally that I have edited subsequent to that same date. I hope that the HubPages writing platform is not going to prevent me from deleting my articles once I begin to move them over one by one to another writing platform. I'm strongly considering moving them over to Medium, but I haven't really decided what is the best move for them.
I stand behind Misbah, and second her invitation to anyone considering a move to Medium. The Hub Publication is the first publication you should consider joining.
John… you already know this, but I want to say it anyway: you’re the one friend I know I can always rely on. You’ve stayed with me, supported me, and stood by me through everything. You are truly a gem of a friend, and I’m grateful for you — always. ![]()
Thank you, John and Misbah. I plan on joining as well as soon as I have completed a creative writing project.
I haven't written on Medium yet but I'm following everyone from HP that I can find there. See you over there soon.
Patty
It looks like Medium is the most popular place for every Hubber to find a new home for their articles.
Jodah? I've noticed that each of my articles has both a "delete" icon and an "unpublish" icon at the top of them. Do you know what the difference is between the two? I ask you this, because once I start moving my articles over to another writing platform, I want to make sure that I remove each and every one of them from the HubPages writing platform permanently.
I think if you just unpublish the piece stays here on the platform in case you wish to republish it at sometime. That is how it has been until now anyway. Deleting it gets rid of it completely.
I'd like to join The Hub Publication as well. I'll look the publication up. Thanks for letting us know!
A few years ago I tried Medium and earned a tad over $3 over the course of 12 months. I posted several dozen articles but concluded the stuff I write doesn't work on that platform.
I didn't see the point of spending $60 to post articles. There are scores of places where I can do that for free.
I'm trying out Wizzley, where I used to write, but it seems to be moribund although I've posted a couple of pieces that have recorded views.
Any wisdom on offer?
Give it another try, Rupert!! Medium’s system has changed a lot since you left. Right now, they’re rewarding writers for bringing in external traffic, especially from search engines and social media. Posting your story links elsewhere and attracting outside readers actually works in your favor now.
When you were on Medium earlier, the criteria were completely different — everything depended on internal traffic and “reads for reads.” That’s no longer the case.
And you don’t need to pay the full $60 upfront. Just join for a month first and pay monthly. I’m sure your style of storytelling fits perfectly with Medium’s current criteria.
You’re more than welcome to join The Hub Publication. I’d truly love to see you writing under The Hub. ![]()
I've just spent four hours turning my saved ones into pdf's. Not sure what to do with them, but may make some into ebooks. It is going to be really weird not checking in here, but we have had a good run. Good luck to everybody whatever you are all planning on doing.
Nell, that must’ve taken so much work, turning everything into PDFs is a great idea, and ebooks sound wonderful. Yes, it will feel strange not checking in here, but you’re right, we’ve had a good run. Wishing you the best in whatever you choose next.
And if you ever decide to write on Medium, feel free to check out The Hub Publication, you’d be very welcome there. ![]()
It will be weird, indeed, Nell. Good luck to you, too.
Thank you Misbah. Right now I'm entirely focussed on saving and deleting everything from HubPages and putting what turned into an unpleasant experience behind me.
Hey Misbah!
So glad to see this post. I want everyone to know that I'm on Medium and joined the Hub Publication in 2023-24. Misbah, John, and others have done a lot to grow the blog. I'm happy to be included. I've posted a couple poems on the Hub Publication and will do more when I'm intentional about making the time.
Thank you, Misbah for being the good friend you are. See you on Medium.
Janis, thank you so much for your kind words! It truly means a lot. We’re grateful to have you as part of The Hub Publication! Take your time with new pieces; we’ll always be happy to read whatever you choose to share. Thank you for being a wonderful friend, and I look forward to seeing you on Medium as always. ❤️
I dont have microsoft windows jut complete office so when I click save or print etc there is only web complete html or web single file no pdf
I thought I posted something on this thread. Therefore, it must have been on another thread.
I am, already, a member at Medium for some years (not the paid one). But I haven't written anything on this platform, except three articles till now. I keep reading one or two articles that appeal (mostly free ones) or the snippets allowed there.
Is getting subscribers to only way to get money from Medium?
Yes, you have to be a paid member in order to join Medium’s partner program. ![]()
I can see where it's a superior business model for the platform owners then HubPages. It seems a poor business model for writers. I don't suppose there are any other paying platforms available.
Hi, Robert
I'm considering applying to Constant Content, and probably taking a look at Medium. CC has a forum by haven't taken a look yet.
Good luck to you and everybody here in HP.
I signed in at Medium today. They are running a membership sale.
Robert - I joined Medium a week ago and, and I've learned that the thing to do is get your articles onto "Publications" that are empowered to recommend your work for a "Boost." But, I'm running into difficulties.
What I desperately need is a writers' forum but there doesn't seem to be one.
Hi Rupert, I can definitely understand that when you are new to Medium, it can feel like stepping into a maze.
You’re right that getting your work into publications helps with visibility, but the Boost system can be confusing at first. Not every publication nominates, but The Hub Publication does help identify and nominate pieces that are genuinely boost-worthy, so if your work fits our themes, you’re very welcome to submit.
Still, I want you to know that "Boost" is not something that will help you in the long run. What helps a lot is connecting with other writers. While Medium doesn’t have an official writers’ forum, there are active communities where writers support each other, share advice, and learn the platform together.
A few places you might find helpful:
Medium’s Discord communities (several exist, run by writers)
Facebook groups for Medium writers
Slack communities created by longtime Medium authors
If you’d like, I can point you to a few good ones.
You’re not alone in this, Rupert, and trust me, it gets easier once you find your circles, and with a bit of guidance. ![]()
You can read The Hub Publication guidelines here: https://thehubpublication.com/write-for … 1189d5e011
And can join our team by filling out the form at the end of the story. Hope this helps ![]()
Hi Misbah, there are several Medium Writers groups on fb. Which one is for most of us? If possible, please send a friend request/tag me or share the page to follow. I'm Janis L Evans. Thanks!
Hi Janis,
I’m actually not on Facebook myself, but I do know a few active groups many Medium writers use. Here are some you can check out:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/mediumw … ctinspire/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/mediumwritersgroup/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/mediumwriting/
And here’s a helpful list as well: https://medium.com/blogging-guide/list- … 73fbe5c7aa
Hope this helps you find the right community! ![]()
Thank you Misbah for your detailed help and offer to join The Hub Publication. Unfortunately, I don't write poetry, personal experience, relationship or similar articles. I've always been a reportage writer - politics, economics, biography, history, with a smattering of what I like to think of humourous observations. My writing would not fit well in your publication.
Currently, my major issue is unlocking the "Submit" button for the publication Rooted. I have followed the clear instructions to the letter but the button remains stubbornly greyed out. There's a gremlin somewhere; I just have to find it and neutralize it.
Hello All…
I’ve interacted with a few of you since I joined in 2019. Never a big money maker for me but I did enjoy the interactive comments (when they were there) and I had fun writing my sewing, traveling, and other articles.
So, All the Best to All of You.
Loretta
Is it possible to easily export our hub articles over to Medium or do we have to cut and paste each article?
You can use Medium’s Import a Story feature to bring over your HubPages articles — it’s definitely easier than copying and pasting. Here’s the official guide:
https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articl … -to-Medium
That said, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Medium’s import tool adds a canonical link pointing back to your HubPages article. If HubPages shuts down or your article URLs break later, that canonical link becomes meaningless.
Imported stories also carry the original publish date, which can make them show up as “old” on Medium and reduce visibility.
Sometimes the import tool fails or messes up formatting.
Because of this, many writers prefer to manually copy and paste their HubPages content into Medium instead. You can still add a note like “Originally published on HubPages,” but your Medium version will stand independently even if HubPages goes offline.
Also, if you just want to keep a copy of your work for your own records, it’s a good idea to save each article as a PDF. The easiest way is using the Opera browser — just right-click the page and choose “Save as PDF.”
So in short:
Importing is convenient, but manual copying (plus saving a PDF backup) is the safest option if HubPages might disappear.
Thank you, Misbah, for all of the helpful Medium info. I plan to refer to it in February when I join Medium. (Currently, I'm keeping my former HP content on Authory.com on a temporary basis. There was only about 20 publications left on HP. It was a fun setup but took several days to figure out the site worked.)
Best wishes for the holidays!
From what I understand Medium only allows you to post two articles a day. Am I missing something?
You’re very welcome, Genna — I’m really glad it helped.
Best wishes to you as well for the holidays, and I hope the move over feels smooth and rewarding when you make it.
Thank you so much for your helpful reply! I'll start looking into Medium as an option.
No you got it. It used to be unlimitted, and then three a day but now it is only two. It is an attempt to restrict writers using AI to churn out multiple articles a day and scam the payout system.
It will probably take me a considerable amount of time to repost an article from my HubPages account to Medium, so with me, there's no danger of me trying to post any more than two articles a day. LOL.
Hey all, just made it to Medium and I've already found a few of you to follow. So far, I've posted one article under Ds Traylor. This is an article that dates back to the Helium days (yep, I still have a few of those left). Once I get more accustomed to Medium, I will be moving articles from Hubpages to there. Also, I'm on Vocal Media, but seeing how that works, I may stop after a while.
Still, looking for followers on Medium. As mentioned I go by Ds Traylor .
Welcome to Medium, Dean!
I’ve followed you already and look forward to reading your work. Always nice to see familiar faces from the HubPages.
Wishing you a smooth transition and success as you settle into Medium, my friend. ![]()
Hi Dean - I’m looking for you on Medium but
Can’t seem to find you. Not sure what I’m missing but if you follow me or post a comment to a work that might help. Best of luck on Medium. It’s vastly different but if you take part there is also a nice sense of community on the pages over there, too.

There was a youngish woman here, she came aboard HubPages around the same time that Miebakagh57 did. She loved writing, it seemed, as she had articles going up constantly.
