Still praying for little Lexi, and also for this little guy as well now. Keep us posted! Connie I am glad to hear the good news.

Holly, I read about a little boy with similar problem, I will look it up when I get home. I am baby-sitting, and just stopped in to check up on Lexi.

Great news!  Lexi's breathing tube is out as are her drain tubes.  The pathology report came back and her cancer was a very slow growing cancer that she had from birth.  My daughter didn't write down the type, but we will find that out.  Still, the cancer was totally encased in the tumor!  That means she will not have to have chemo!!  She is too young anyway for radiation, so that was never an option.  She will have regular scans every 3 months to make sure the cancer is not returning and there is only a 25% chance that it will!  Since they got all of the tumor in the operation and there is none in the spine, fluid or anywhere else, we have great hopes, or should I say, faith, that Lexi is going to be fine from here on out.  She has not recovered enough yet from the sedative to access her for any damage from the surgery, but from the previous time that she came out a bit, we have great hopes for a full recovery.  She has her gag reflex, obviously, she must be able to swallow, (from before) she can point, express her wishes, nod or shake her head yes or no and move her arms and legs.  Hopefully, everything will be fine for her and she will be back playing with her brother, Christopher and cousin, Justin, very soon.  Thank you all for caring about her and please continue to pray for her.  I am a grateful Nonnie, that is for sure!

What wonderful people you all are to care so much about a little girl you don't even know.  All of your caring wishes and prayers have not only comforted me in my hours of need, but I truly do believe that we have had a miracle and that you have all helped to make it happen.  One of my first thoughts when I first discovered the news was to try to get people to come together at Hubpages to get as many people praying for Lexi as I could.  You have not let me down and there are people here from a lot of different places.  I will always be grateful to you all for caring about my sweet baby girl.

I am almost recovered and should be released from the hospital tomorrow.  The docs have said the stress probably raised my Coumadin level since it was too high and I even missed a dose...at least I am no longer in danger of bleeding to death.  Lexi needs me too much for that.  The minute I am released, I will be right back over there with her.  Right now, being a patient, they will not let me in, but as soon as they do, I'll be right there.  I will continue to update you all and let you know her progress as long as she continues to improve.

I missed the initial postings on this, but all of us have grandchildren can identify with the anguish-- and then the relief and joy you must have felt.
We all have a special love for our baby girls and boys.
Glad to know healing is happening for all of you.
      Cheers!

Connie you will no doubt notice a big improvement in Lexi since it has been some time since you laid eyes on her. Anxiously awaiting your update and so glad you will be released so soon. Take care of yourself!

In the past few weeks, we have had a lot of ups and downs as we watch our baby girl struggling to survive brain surgery.  We have gotten some great news and there has also been a lot of back tracking.  Her tube went back in and just came back out today.  So far, so good.  The highs and lows are so difficult....sometimes they come right on top of each other.  I aam so looking forward to the day where we just start moving forward with the recovery.  The neurosurgoeon is still hopeful of a complete recovery and we just have to cling to that and pray for our miracle.  I am out of the hospital today and already staying with Lexi tonite.  Her mother needs a break and I need Lexi to know I am here for her too.  She is resting well tonite, so I think she knows I'm here.

I'm seeing your update kind of late Connie, but am glad to read the news is more good than bad. No doubt it was very comforting for Lexi to see you once more. I'm glad you did what needed to be done to get released so you could be by her side.

I can only imagine how tough the highs and lows are for you all, but am also looking forward to the time when progress is steady and constant so that you all can look forward to Lexi being released and heading home where she belongs.

Hang in there, you all have the inner strength needed to cope with this hardship and to endure it, which is also something to be thankful for.

Connie, I'm so pleased to check back in here see that the doctor is hopeful for a complete recovery.  I guess under such difficult circumstances that's about as much hopeful information as anyone can expect - but doctors don't usually offer that kind of hopeful talk if they don't truly believe it.

Continued best wishes that Lexi gets out of this worrisome stage as quickly as possible.

Connie, here is a Bible verse that you need right now !
Jesus said,"I am the Lord that healeth thee" Video of the song on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnweb6-PCYI
May god give you the strength , courage and wisdom and let His presence envelop you in your time of need.
And another verse says, The Lord replied, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you!
Have faith in the name of Jesus and ask, believing, that Lexi will be healed completely,to praise His holy name and I join the many who are praying for the same.
May God heal Lexi completely and give you the joy of seeing her grow up.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted lately.  Lexi is doing a bit better, but her recovery will take a long, long time.  She still spends most of her time staring in space, but we can get her to be aware for longer periods of time.  She also is getting very agitated, but they warned us that most young patients who have these type of operations do.  They get frustrated because they can't do anything. Yesterday, she kicked all day and cried and there was nothing I could do to console her.  That is heartbreaking, but part of the recovery, I suppose.  She still is having trouble swallowing, so has to be still be suctioned quite often.  That is a problem as that keeps her throat sore, most likely, so though it helps, it also hurts in the long run as far as the swallowing goes.  Still, they are talking about moving her to a regular room soon as she is still in P- ICU right now.  I am so grateful to you all for taking an interest in her and praying for her recovery.

Wow, Connie.  What a trial.  I've been thinking about Lexi since you started this thread, wondering how she is and how her family is doing.
Even though this is incredibly difficult, God is with you all and tending to that lovely little one.  I'll remember her in my prayers again.  You take care as well!

Connie, I'm glad to see she's doing better.  Sorry to see it's such a difficult recovery process.  I guess there's no getting around such a surgery without a difficult process.  I can't imagine how difficult it must be for all of you.  Thoughts, prayers, and wishes still going out to Lexi (and, of course, you and yours).  Hang in and stay strong.  Each day brings her closer to getting out of this initial recovery stage.

Connie, I am so glad to finally hear about her progress. I am excited for you and for Lexie. I know the road has been difficult, but it is going to get better and better, as each new day she grows stronger. The frustration will pass and before you know it all of the therapy she gets will pay off.

My prayers are with you, she has truly been a trooper! God Bless Lexie, and Connie, and the whole family. smile
