"Back" button not working when on forums.

   Very weird, but for the last few days the option to go back a page no longer works if I am currently on a forum and trying to leave it to return to a non-forum page I visited previously. In fact the best I seem to be able to achieve is to go back to the first page I entered the forum on, but not to any other pages prior to that. This is only effecting the forums, and I have no problems using the 'back' option in order to return to any other pages so long as I am not on a forum at the time. Am I the only one experiencing this as I can't see any other threads on the subject?

      This may sound bizarre, but I don't suppose you are having trouble creating photo capsules in hubs, are you?
      
      This issue came up when another user reported a bug with photo capsules in IE.

         Can't really answer this one as haven't written a hub since I returned from my holiday a few weeks back, (currently frantically getting my vegetables planted for this year, after which I shall resume hubbing).

      If you can give a specific series of steps that cause the back button to function strangely in IE we'll take a look.  I tried a bit to reproduce it but could not.  An example of a good set of specific steps:
      
      Using Internet Explorer 8 (for your version check help -> about):
      1. Go to http://hubpages.com/hub/ipad-owner
      2. Click on the "what is blue ray?" topic from the sidebar
      3. Click the back button once and it doesn't return to the hub

         Tried your suggestion and it did return me to the hub Paul. I tried to recreate my problem and could only do it by returning to a forum I had previously commented on via "My Recent Activity". When I did and tried to use the "back" button I only got as far as the first page of the forum where I had joined it, and then it just kept refreshing that page every time I clicked on the "back" button again.

      Misty I've been having the same problem on my laptop but the back button did not work on anything of HP. Switched to Firefox no more problems!

         Thanks Ag, will try Firefox from next week. I have usede it before but found it a bit weird to use after IE, although I am sure I could have adapted if I had perservered.

         Yes, that is correct, but only on hubpage forums and no-where else!

   The back button is a function of your browser, and is not something that is programmed as part of the actual forums.
   
   Which means the problem is something on your computer and not an actual problem here at the forums.

      But if this is a problem with my computer why is Dyonder experiencing the same thing, and why is it only on Hubpage forums and no-where else???

         I've noticed this problem for a few days too.  When I go to the forum from my Hubtivity, the back button will not take me back to hubtivity. 
         
         I have Internet Explorer 8.

   misty, I've been having the same problem with IE in the forums. If you double left click the back button (rather than a single click) it'll usually take you back. Don't know why it's doing this to some of us.

         You could switch to a different browser like Opera or Firefox, then BOOM! no more problems.

            that's what I'm using right now (firefox); switch back & forth for fun/variety & functionality - it's just odd that IE's back arrow tweaks out only on these forums; dunno why

      Yes, I have noticed this too, but the only site it effects is Hubpages and the double click does sometimes solve the problem, although not every time! can't help thinking this is partially a hubpages glitch as the problem appears to not only be unique to hubpages, but also unique to hubpage forums!! Don't really want to change browser as such Browsers as Chrome come with a whole load of problems of their own such as them rearranging the text and image capsules on hubs and not displaying pictures in the correct places.

         I have only used Google Chrome on hubpages for the forums, to create new hubs and everything else I do here with no problems at all that I can think of.
         
         My hubs come out looking just as I expect them to. While I could probably improve the layout that is a different topic.
         
         Google chrome is based upon Webkit which some other browsers are also based upon. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think Opera is also based on Webkit.

            My hubs used to look fine on IE 7 on my laptop, but then due to other problems I changed to Chrome based on advice from another hubber. It was later I noticed that going into my older hubs I had amazon and Ebay capsules aligned to the right with big white spaces to the left where text had been previously. when I posted the problem here another hubber advised me this might be if I was using Chrome as other browsers did not seem to show this problem when viewing hubs.

   Yep, need this fixed quick. Because the subjects of most of the forums lately really, for lack of a better word, SUCK and the back button is needed desperately.

   I think the hubpages forums is a black hole.  once one is sucked in there is no returning to other life as we know it.  good luck!

   I spent some time investigating this today.  As best I can tell it's caused by, if not a bug, an odd deficiency in IE8.  I haven't been able to solve it, so for now I'd recommend using firefox, safari, chrome, or opera, none of which have the problem.  This is the most time I've ever spent using IE8, and I can't say that I'm very impressed ...

      Thanks Paul, I get a new computer next week, so I shall try switching to firefox when I am on that one. Really appreciate you trying to solve the problem though.

         Hi Cindy! I switched from IE8 to Firefox a couple of weeks ago, and I really can highly recommend it. It's a vast improvement on IE.
