Many often use these symbols in their Titles and URLs "|"
I am embarrassed to say, I never knew how this was done with a PC keyboard and always just pasted them in.
So for any who were similarly ignorant
Its Shift and the button between | enter | and | backspace |
||||||||
Happy, I am.
Okay. | am doing well. Is that better?
Maybe, | is a college graduette.
My keyboard doesn't have a button between Enter and Backspace
Fun fact!!!
It's actually called the 'Pipe' key.
Love,
Wafflecheese.
with wafflecheese's useful terminology I was able to find this
My | is on the other side of the keyboard between Shift and Z.
Mine too, but my 'Z' is a 'Y' - it's a German keyboard. |||
Took me ages this evening to work out how it's done ...
Ah well my laptop is English - to me if I ever have to buy a Spanish keyboard it'll be because this one went caput and I didn't have time to hop over the UK to buy one.
Apparently Windows 7 when it is pre-installed has a language option, but when a Spanish shop wants to sell you it, they automatically set it to Spanish even if you want it to be in English!
Between that and a weird keyboard I'll stick to a UK model lol
Oh, this one ... |!!! It's between the Shift and the Z on my laptop keyboard.
hey, mine look different. my upper symbol is broken in half.
||||||| this is o.k.
I feel like a little kid in preschool who just learned how to hold a pencil.
\||||||||||??//??>< |||||||
mine are not as close are you all - what am I doing wrong?
oohh... it's easy to get carried away with these now....! ||||||||||||||
lol cool. ||||| Mine is somewhere else altogther. It's top left, shift button below, esc above, the number 1 to it's right. Portuguese keyboard. Which why I can right things like:
portugûes, a vida é boa, as condições são terríveis, HubPages é fantástico, não é?! - without hunting for special characters.
Still, I can also make pipe key strokes to my heart's content, only the Portuguese seem to like a few millimeters between strokes
|\|\\\\|||
And an oldie but goodie: <3)~
Funny I was getting upset, couldn't find mine. It's where yours is. ||||||||||||||||||| Oh cool!
I have an entirely different button under my Esc button. It has three characters on it but I can only get two of them to show, ¬ and ` the third one is like the | but with a gap in the middle and I don't know which button to press with it to make it work.
the third option on a keyboard is achieved with the Fn (function) key on most laptops
alternately you can try "alt + (key with 3 functions)" or ctrl + (key with 3 functions) or even shift +alt + (key with 3 functions)
usually laptops have a color coded way of telling you this
My keyboard is a little different. Let's have a go ... |Yes?|
Well...now that you've got your pipe, you can smoke it
[Seriously] though, it's most often used to separate words or phrases like:
First | Second | Third | Fourth ...and so on.
Wow....aren't we having fuunnn
And we're learnin' too!
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wow, this is fun ||||||||||||||

I found this key a few months ago but still don't understand why the key has a space in the middle when the character doesn't |||||
<3)~ (too cute! had to try it!)
Okay, so does anyone know how to put ~ above an 'n'? (on an American keyboard)
For anyone who's interested, there's a whole bunch more characters beyond those available on your keyboard. On a Windows PC, most of them are accessible by holding down the 'Alt' button and typing in the number code for the character using the number pad area on the (usually) right side of the keyboard. If you're a MAC, it's probably different, but the codes are the same.
Here's a link to the ASCII codes and characters:
http://ascii-table.com/ansi-codes.php
(hint: use the number in the 'DEC' column)
Happy hunting, boys and girls
Yay found mine after a couple of minutes.
On my laptop it is between shift and z

This isnt a new problem but today was the first I saw it in another hub, so I wanted to ask if this can be fixed, cos I dont understand whats causing it. I create the text for my hubs in Word and then copy/paste to the hub thingy. But if I dont delete/retype the symbols (dashes, colons, etc) in...

What is the difference between a laptop, iPad, Notebook and Tablet or are they all the same?At face value they appear to be the same, just in different packaging.

I made all the required corrections but the Editbot Icons still remain on my Hubs. I have heard some say that they disappear ... but none of mine have. Just wondering why?
by Verlie Burroughs 10 years ago
Is there any way to add this feature to Hubs? Something similar to what you have in the forum? Would save a lot of scrolling when you're at the bottom of a 300+ comment thread.

Ok...right off the top I am sure this is an impossible idea...but anyway here goes.What if Hubpages put a DONATE button on our Hubs so that if someone donated through PAYPAL then HUBPAGES would get the donation right away, and then they would put 60% of the donation into the author's Paypal account...
