Do you have an 'interesting' referral?

I have about 131 referrals now on Hubpages, albeit only about 5 active.

The most prolific, with the exception of a habitual content duplicater with a hubscore of 1, is a second account of a very well known and well liked successful hubber. I won't disclose that one, they know that I am their referrer, I know that they are my referral... all sweet wink

But I have also taken great pleasure in one of my referrals, 'China Man', become a well liked forum regular. Now, China Man, you are doing just great with a hubberscore of 90 and 11 hubs.... just add a little zero on the end of the latter for me wink

I had a little browse around my referrals today, and I was greatly suprised to find kimberlyslyrics in there! I am also happy about that.... but Kimberly, rememember when you were prolific? When do you think that great long burst of productivity may start again? lol

China Man, Kimberlyslyrics, and an undisclosed heavyweight, they are my 3 interesting referrals smile

    Hi Ryan,
I should know the answer to this, but I confess I do not know what a "referral" is (?)

Sorry I have been slacking lately for you !!  big_smile

I have a big hub in the making about Guilin in China, that may help - you big_smile.

Now can you explain referals to me - I am coasting here to get an idea of how things work ready for up-coming web site promotion stuff.

    what is a referral?

if someone registers for HubPages through one of your hubs, then you will make money from their posts too.
You have to add the URL tracker to the hub address for it to recognize they are signing up through you. You have to add your personal tracker

      hubpages.com/hub/title is without the tracker
      hubpages.com/_track/hub/title is with the tracker

Under 'My Account' go to Referral Trackers  to see if anyone has registered through you.
      Hope that helps!

Only if they go through a link on your hub which has your tracker ID placed within it wink

        oh ok
        got it
yeah i don't do the advertising income thing here
i wouldn't feel comfortable doing the referral thing here either
thanks for filling me in though.

    Ryan,
You rock! I have had one referral and the only interesting thing about them is that they are likely to never post a hub. I put referral trackers on every link and nothing.

Glad it works for someone, I'll keep trying.

    :S

Guys, guys, guys, you are missing out!

Basically, China Man signed up to Hubpages having visited from an external URL with my tracker ID on it.

As a result, I now take 10% of impressions for life. So whereas a 'non-referred' member would take 60%, and Hubpages take 40%.... China Man still takes 60%, Hubpages take only 30%, and I get the remainding 10% smile

Rather than explain the whole process, Darkside has a fantastic hub about this http://hubpages.com/hub/Referrals

Please note that you should follow up that hub by Darkside by visiting the other hub which he mentions at the end.

none of mine post in the forums, so you wouldn't know them. I only have 5, but 4 of them are writing. one has 96 hubs. another writes about barbie dolls, they're good hubs. you feel kind of proud of them.  sometimes I share their hubs or tweet them.

mine have all singed up through my profile page and one signed up through a hub.

Does that make me a bad referrer? sad

rebekahELLE tweets her referrals hubs! Well if I set up an alter ego, then I know who to sign up under wink

My referrals are far from interesting as I've managed to get the ones that copy and paste their hubs from other articles and will probably disappear soon once the hub police get a hold of them, although Amber Allen is a genuine one to look out for...other than that my 89 sign ups are not up to scratch....mind you I haven't been promoting much of my trackers this past year as I've been backlinking and promoting!!!!!

I do a roaring trade in Pink Floyd Posters on hubpages! Shame that they only make me about 10 cents a time lol

They are often the difference in an Amazon commission threshold though, so expect dozens of poster hubs from me now!

Coffee and work fueled?  Or is your creativity keeping you awake?  I have some sleep issues, many at least partly "self inflicted".  I wrote about this in my "Michael Jackson" hub.

I have surprisingly similar stats as Ryan on referrals, luckily i have 20 or so that are quite 'active" so I couldnt highlight just a couple as interesting. This is probably because I am active at other writing sites so I get lucky and get actual writers as referrals sometimes.

Once a referral reaches 10 hubs I put them into my Twitter system and tweet their hubs dozens of times a week and do some rss submission for them since I can do that with a touch of a button. I also keep a special consideration for them when I build niche sites and provide backlinks and reviews to their work (but i do that for just about anyone who fits the bill)

I figure for every 100 hubs written by those I refer, its as if I added 10 to my own portfolio.

Most interesting story, one of my referrals is my friend from Junior High, we used to ride the bus together, he didnt intentionally sign up through me and until Hubs brought us back together ,we hadnt talked in 10 years! He recently reached his first adsense payout and Im pretty sure Ive gotten commissions on about 5 very high priced amazon items via my referrer relationship.

this is my favorite hub by a referral, sadly they only wrote one sad

Sunforged, you have pretty much convinced me to sign up as your referral just as soon as I decide to discretely attempt to penetrate a niche!

Everybody quick! Delete your accounts and republish all your hubs through his tracker ID!

        Thats not a bad idea.

But, I have actually referenced and backlinked many of your hubs throughout my journeys through the net.

That whole organic backlinks thing isnt a complete charade smile

Interesting stories here from you Ryankett and Sunforged!

Are you saying that every time you to a backlink on sites like snipsly, shetoldme etc you put your tracker and then the hub URL?

    1. profile image0
ryankettposted 12 years agoin reply to this

No, the tracker is part of the URL. You are given a default tracker, or you can set up your own.

I would set up your own. One of my URL trackers is _visithub1

So the tracker URL for this page would be http://hubpages.com/_visithub1/forum/post/reply/1121672

At the bottom of every page on Hubpages there is a 'link to this page' button. Just click on that, select your tracker, and then copy and paste the link.

Yes you can use it on places like Snipsly or SheToldMe.
