i mean realy, no one realy makes money here do they, ....moneys not even the point,... the whole point seems to be gathering up these precious little "acolades" and seeing who can have the most followers,... perhaps i'm pms'ing or just being my normal cranky self, but it seems like its nothing more than a platform for whining about the subjucts that face book doesnt have the overall IQ for,...

seriously, if thats what this is then i'm cool with that,... just want to know so i can aproach it propperly.

i'm gettin my ass banned for this one arent i?! har dee har har!!!!!

Some make money, some do not.

Some just post to stir the pot.

I write here for fun and dough.

Anything else you'd like to know?

my question would probubly qualify as a pot stir,.. hee hee.

i just write because it pleases me to do so, and i'll continue w/ or w/o a platform like this,... i do love the forum of fellow writers.

        thanks for the post.

It might seem a bit daft, but the whole mutual appreciation thing is all to do with internal linking and strengthening the site. Fans/followers/readers, forum friendships, all leads to stronger linking. In a way we are like a team, by encouraging each other to do better, we are improving Hubpages and keeping it strong. This is actually a great place to write if you really want to get your work read by the masses. Whether or not you want to make money is up to you, but many of us do make money here.
Welcome to Hubpages, by the way smile

I agree with Izzy. I was on another site where none of this was possible. And it made things so difficult that I just disappeared. On another site, while people talked on forum, the level of help given wasn't high quality. This site has exceptional people with truly exceptional knowledge and standards. Money can be made, but it depends on what one puts in. smile

This is my main account that I use for "fun" writing and have all my accolades on and post in the forums. I have four other accounts I use to write on that are just for making money.

For February I'm currently looking at $120 so I'm hoping I'll hit $160 or more by the end.

It takes time, patience and learning but you can make money here - and it increases over time.

It took me ten months to reach my first payout, two months my second and this month I'll probably make it in one. The bigger your base of articles and the older they get in search engines, the more you make.

Have a look at people like Nelle Hoxie - she earns thousands a month with Hubpages.

Remember - Hubpages internal views don't make you money, search engine views do.

P.S. I didn't get my 100,000 accolade by annoying hubbers into visiting my hubs. tongue

i apreciate the info,... not realy looking for $$$, i got no illusions there,... but i'm glad for those that are succesfull here,... i've tried my hand at what seems to be needed for that, and it just doesnt seem to be in me, but i'm ok with that.

      thanks

It takes 6-9 months for a hub to reach earning potential and start bringing in good money.

It takes good keyword research or a LOT of luck to write a hub that will do well in search engines.

Well, I earned almost $1000 in December on one Hub. The point is to get search engine traffic. The accolades and friendships are nice but they are not the main reasons for the site and why most people write here.

    What is HubPages about?

Quote from the About Us section of the site under the right hand side of the page on 'More About Hubpages'

HubPages has easy-to-use publishing tools, a vibrant author community and underlying revenue-maximizing infrastructure. Hubbers (HubPages authors) earn money by publishing their Hubs (content-rich Internet pages) on topics they know and love, and earn recognition among fellow Hubbers through the community-wide HubScore ranking system. The HubPages ecosystem provides a search-friendly infrastructure which drives traffic to Hubs from search engines such as Google and Yahoo, and enables Hubbers to earn revenue from industry-standard advertising vehicles such as Google AdSense, Kontera, and the eBay and Amazon Affiliates program. All of this is provided free to Hubbers in an open online community.

Mutual admiration is one of the ways that writers can encourage and support each other. By nature writers are on their own in a little room and this site opens the virtual windows making the isolation more tolerable for some people.

The balances between commercial interests, help, virtual friendship, forum expression is an admirable accomplishment by Hubpages.

I have been on a few other sites so far and they are either dreary uninspiring places, or full of loud and ill informed zealots. The mix of people types here is managed well enough with specific boxes for each strange type of person that we are - and we all seem to fit in somewhere.

Well, it may seem that it's all about getting accolades and playing forum games but if I were to tell you that I have made over ten pounds, yes, ten pounds, in four months - I think you will realise there is a lot more to it.

I didn't think I would hit my target quite so quickly, and I haven't - but ten pounds is reward enough for about 300 hours of work.  I include forum spamming and mutual admiration in those hours of course.   If it was just the writing then that's about half an hour, so not so bad.
