This is a form of torture.........Just kidding:)
mcimicata You really should submit your hubs for the contest 3 days ago the hub that won was his first hub. How sweet was that. I must warn you though it is addicting..........
Don't forget just put "WritingContest" (no spaces) in the tags before you publish
Good Luck and Have Fun
Winners for day 12 of the contest! I HAZ THEM. Wooo!!!
• Staff Pick winner: Gordon Hamilton for his Hub on coddled eggs
• Daily Drawing Winner: awesomeactress for a discussion of the flawed system of New Jersey bus passes
Gordon Hamilton is our first double winner! He won a Daily Drawing a couple days back, and now he's won a staff pick! His Hub on coddled eggs is very smart- it uses all original photos, is on a niche topic that has surprisingly weak competition (and he also incorporates two keyword sets into his title to attract an even broader audience), and his writing and useful tips are excellent. Well done!
Congrats to today's winners, and to everyone else who entered today as well!
Nice job and congrats winners! Gordon your hub is one of the best yet!
Congrats to the winners and two wins, wow! I'm still working on one!
Thank you very much, Simone and everyone for your comments. It is a great honour to win, especially when I look at the contest submissions page and see the volume and quality of the entries to the contest.
Congrats to all! I am just so amazed with the way all these great hubs just keep coming. Is there no end to all the creative talent out there? I am definitely going to try coddled eggs.
Yeah, seriously! This contest is amazing.
This is the best contest that has ever run at hub pages in my opinion.
Tuesday's winners are UP!
• Staff Pick winner: Marie McKeown for her Hub on royal visits to Ireland
• Daily Drawing Winner: Bendo13 for a fun Hub on National Licorice Day
Marie McKeown's Hub is a really good mixture of present issues and history, and has great formatting and very interesting information. We recommend having a look at it!
Congrats to today's winners, and props to ALL entries!
Outstanding stuff! As I am a big fan of "Royal" trivia, Marie your hub gave me just what I was looking for. A well deserved staff pick! Congratulations. And Bendo13, who ever thought to dedicate a day to Licorice is genius! Congrats on the daily drawing.
Congrat to all winners!!!
I was going to give the contest a try but I was holding off because I am not a very good typer. (I tend to have alot of typing errors) From what I understood from the criteria your hub needed to have proper use of grammer.... Is this actually factored in when picking the winners? I did notice there to be alot of mistakes in some.... Don't mean to sound rude or arrogant, just trying to clarify the criteria.
Hi, Stressed24/7,
When it comes to what is actually factored in to judging criteria re the contest, clearly Simone or another member of the Hub Pages staff would have to answer.
All I would say to you is that you should absolutely consider having a go. If typing errors are your problem, have you considered what is causing them? Maybe you are just typing too fast! If you find difficulty with some spellings or grammar issues, are you aware that there is a spell check facility in the text capsule on Hub Pages to help you?
You seem to have an interesting life judging by your profile, with plenty to keep you busy, interested and motivated - so go for it! After all, if you're not in it, you won't win it.
Best of luck!
Gordon is right
Spelling and grammar are just some of many factors that come into consideration. You should enter the contest, Stressed24/7!
You Hubbers are really starting to blossom! Really! Entries today were beautiful- and we saw all types too, ranging from elegant and flowery to instructive, terse, and practical.
The winners today had something in common- they both featured flowers!
• Staff Pick winner: E. A. Wright won for his beautiful Hub on April flowers in Central Park
• Daily Drawing Winner: viryabo won for her Hub on flowers helping the elderly
Apparently spring is in the air!
Definitely check out E. A. Wright's Hub. It is EPIC. He uses beautiful, original photos, has lots of useful advice, offers a very creative quiz and a fun poll, and even uses map capsules in satellite mode to better show off Central Park from an areal perspective! Bravo, E. A. Wright. Bravo.
And by the by, Hubbers... we tend to see a surge in really Amazing Hubs on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you have a real masterpiece and want to give it better chances of winning, consider publishing on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, when quality sags a bit in favor of more interesting weekend plans
E.A. Wright, your flower images are really cool. I would have never thought to use the map capsules for the satellite imaging, nice. The fact that you actually marked special groups of flowers using longitude and latitude has me amazed. A really well deserved win for staff pick, Congratulations!
viryabo, very interesting information. Reading how flowers have a positive effect on the well being of the elderly is something to applaud. Congrats on the daily drawing.
Some really great work out there these days Hubbers. You're a pretty amazing bunch of writers to say the least! Keep on Hubbin'!
Thanks for the kind words K9keystrokes. Doing the lat/long coordinates was a little tedious, but there was no other option. Google's maps were a little sparse on Central Park landmarks, and flowers don't get their own street addresses, unfortunately.
LOL! Good point about the street addresses, although I'm bet 'tedious' is a huge understatement. I think it was a really brilliant use of the map capsule...kinda jealous I didn't think of it!
Well, I think there are still a lot of other opportunities out there for creating useful, detailed maps -- especially small-scale maps meant to help pedestrians, not cars.
Thank you so much k9keystrokes, i appreciate your nice comments.
It was a great surprise to me. I don't remember wining anything before, so the surprise was very nice.
Thanks Simone, this is so wonderful. And such a surprise too
I so love hubpages.
A.E.Wright, a big congratulations to you on a well deserved prize , and a great topic and article. It's a fantastic hub and well done.
Hi, Everyone...
If you got a notice that your hub is a finalist, I think there is a problem with the link. This is the link that was sent:
http://hubpages.com/help/so-you-think-y … ite-online
(Note to staff: please do not snip link because you need it for reference)
I have clicked on this link at least twice, and read the entire page. There is no place to vote. This link is to the rules of the contest for writers.
I am excited, but I don't want to pass around a link that does not work...that won't do me or anyone else in the contest any good.
Voting for the Week 2 People's Choice Hub open up today on all Topic pages (here's a quick link to one) starting at 4:00pm (PT) today. That's about six hours from now
that link takes me back to the page about the contest, but I don't see how one votes for a people's choice? Does the people's choice have to be a previous winner?
Yeah, that's really weird! Must be some sort of bug. We're looking into it!
Oh, silly me. It was 4:30 and not 4:00. The polls are live now; you've got until 12:00pm on Monday to cast your votes!
The winners for Thursday will be posted today right? I think I just had a punch line blonde moment (
The Thursday winners are UP!
• Staff Pick winner: Jane Bovary for an AMAZING guide to the City of Darwin
• Daily Drawing Winner: BethanRose for her Hub on the magic powers of eggs!!
Jane Bovary's Hub included tons of original photos, very cool video, map capsules, a table capsule, and useful links. It's PACKED with cool tips and useful advice. What's more, it integrates two search-friendly keywords into its title. Well done!
The weekend winners will be announced on Monday. Happy Friday, and happy Hubbing!
Another perfect choice for staff pick! Outstanding images of Australia and so much more. Nice job Jane.
Congrats to both of todays winners. Too much fun.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Oh my gosh...I wondered why the hub I wrote for yesterday never appeared and it was tagged as writing contest with a separation. Corrected it for today and will make sure others have no separation. Darn! Guess details really count!
I did that too, way back on the first day. Oh well, I guess that'll teach us, huh? heehee
Congrats to all the awesome winners!!!
Congratulations on a phenomenal hub. Great pictures, video, everything was just incredible. If anyone hasn't read it you should. Guaranteed if you didn't want to go there before you will after this hub Great job
Congrats to all the amazing winning hubs. On a personal note I feel that this competition has really made me focus on producing quality hubs but also applying many of the simpler principles of SEO - hopefully all the keyword research, as well as content research will pay off over time.
Great competition!!!
Oh, I'm so glad to hear that! I think it shall pay off
Ooooh! Hold your horses!!!
Without further ado, I give you weekend winner time!!!!
FRIDAY, APRIL 15TH
• Staff Pick winner: Nell Rose for her Hub on the Hellfire Club - very interesting!
• Daily Drawing Winner: www.lookseenow for a discussion on the Rapture
SATURDAY, APRIL 16TH
• Staff Pick winner: akirchner for a lovely guide to growing potatoes in containers (and IzzyM wrote a great guide on how to COOK all those potatoes you would appreciate, too )
• Daily Drawing Winner: soni2006 for a interval training (perhaps to burn off all those potatoes!)
SUNDAY, APRIL 17TH
• Staff Pick winner: akanga1 for his Hub on ovarian cysts (careful kids, this is not for those with weak stomachs such as myself, but has very useful info in an area where there is not a lot of helpful stuff already online)
• Daily Drawing Winner: Sir Cumference for his quick guide to the Giza Pyramids!
And I know this is going to be dreadfully frustrating, but I'm still waiting to hear back from some of our judges on the Week 2 Best Hub winner, so I'm going to wait to announce both Week 2 winners for now. They'll be named tomorrow instead
Congrats to the winners, and I must say... you're all champs!! This contest is epic.
the link www.lookseenow didn't work when I clicked on it.
Yeah, that isn't meant to be a link- the forum just thinks I wanted it to be one. That's the Hubber's username ^_^
Congratulations to all the winners (I am even congratulating myself). Thank you so much Hubpages for giving us the opportunity to participate in such a fantastic contest. I am glad that I won two daily drawing prizes. I have published 43 hubs for the contests till now and I plan on publishing more of them.
Nice work Hubbers.
akirchner~ you rock as always!
Nell~ amazing hub. The ghost of Sukie is a trip! :\
akanga1~ Ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer have become a very special subject for me as my dearest friend lost her battle with ovarian disease. I am so grateful that you wrote about the topic and that it has been chosen as a staff pick.
Congrats to the daily drawing winners also. Happy Hubbing!
Thanks for the heads-up about the weekly winners Simone.
Congratulations to all the winners. Now I get to go read so I can grow some potatoes cook them with a new recipe, eat them and ok I'll read about burning off the calories but no guarantees. Then off to the Helfire Club hmmmm very interesting and cysts???.
Thank you Simone and my horses are outside so I would have to go catch them first and it's dark here so the skunks are out. )))
I had written two hubs on the 17th April, and added the WritingContest tag, but my hubs were not to be seen in the list of submissions. What did I do wrong, for not including them in the list?
Don't worry, lex123. Those entries (the Hubs on graphology and micraines) showed up and were counted in Day 17 of the contest
At long last, I am happy to announce the week 2 winners!!!
DzyMsLizzy won the People's Choice award for her Hub on camping
And E. A. Wright won the Best Hub prize for his guide to finding spring flowers in Central Park!
Congrats, you two! You are now both in the running for the Grand Prize! Plus you both won an additional $100
Outstanding choices! A well deserved congrats to you both!
Wow!! Woo-Hoo!! A huge thank you to everyone! I'll have to post a public thanks on FaceBook as well, to thank the non-hubbers who must have also voted for my hub.
I am thrilled.
And Congratulations to E.A. Wright--that was indeed a most ingenious hub full of fun information.
Congratulations DzyMsLizzy & E. A. Wright Well done. Both well deserved.
Congrats to everyone who has won. I aspire to be in this elite club one day!
And here are today's winners!
• Staff Pick winner: Gordon Hamilton for his Hub on how to make pizzas
• Daily Drawing Winner: Frank Atanacio for a short story titled The Vampire Challenges
Congrats to Gordon for winning again- he has managed to find some recipe keywords that are remarkably not well covered online, which is rather impressive, plus his awesome original photos and useful tips make a real impact!
The decision today was tough- thanks for everyone for competing, and happy Hubbing!
I am seriously in need of a hub that will help me learn patience. It seems to be a virtue that was left out of my genes or something. Please don't pray for me because last time the big guy upstairs gave me lessons on developing patience that almost left me with no hair. Just kidding (((())))
TUESDAY WINNER TIME!!!
• Staff Pick winner: sagebrush_mama for her Hub on what to bring to college
• Daily Drawing Winner: Stephanie Henkel for a very funny attack on swimsuit season and crash diets
The decision on today's winner was tough- there were several finalists that were neck and neck- but in the end, sagebrush_mama's title, which is both relatively short and full of search-friendly keywords, and her formatting, which is well-organized and easy to follow, not to mention her judicious use of various capsules, won out. Brava, sagebrush_mama!
And props to the other finalists, too! You probably know who you are
I can't wait to read both of the wining hubs! Congratulations on your wins today. How much fun is this contest anyway!? Some really great hubs have been coming out of this competition, and I am learning soooo much.
Happy Hubbing!
Thanks, Simone, and staff! So surprised, been working on that one for a couple of weeks!
Congrats to the winners. Now I can be prepared for when my grandson goes to college AAAAhhh that's not that far away! Ooooh I can always use an attack on swimsuit season. Great job guys and again Congrats I have to go read now.
Wednesday Winners!
• Staff Pick winner: Mrs. Menagerie for a Hub on truffles (of the fungal variety)
• Daily Drawing Winner: Londonlady for tips on taking a good macro shot
Mrs. Menagerie's Hub is a lot of fun. It includes a useful table and cool photos, plus a fun video and lots of fascinating facts- and obviously has a search-friendly title. Well done, Mrs. Menagerie!
For those of you who have been participating in both the contest AND the HubChallenge, props! I've been HubChallenging along, and am really appreciating just how impressive it is that y'all are continuing to turn out amazing Hubs so regularly. We've got some serious talent in this community!
The most remarkable hub on truffles I have ever seen assembled. So much great information all in one place is hard to find. The chart is a real keeper! Nicely done, a VERY deserving staff pick winner. Congrats!
Congratulations to both winners. Both the hubs are awesome and incredible. Well done Mrs. Menagerie and Londonlady. Keep up the good work.
Excellent hubs. Congratulations to both winners. Keep in rolling more great hubs. Now the Google must recall the Panda Update from HP, as there is truly original content all over and HP staff is working diligently to remove questionable content from the site. Kudos to all of you.
Drum Roll Please..............................................................................................................(()
You've got quite the sense of timing Charlu!
............................ And the Thursday winners are:
• Staff Pick winner: Stephanie Henkel for a beautiful Hub on attracting and housing bluebirds
• Daily Drawing Winner: tshort23 for a Hub on Michigan teaching requirements for elementary schools
Congrats to both!
Today's Staff Pick winner choice was a really tough one - there was another very, VERY close winner, but Stephanie's original, amazing photos ultimately won the team over. Very cool stuff!
Have a great weekend everyone! The next batch of winners will be announced Monday afternoon
Thanks so much for picking my hub as the staff pick of the week! I'm so pleased that the staff liked my bluebird photographs and extra pleased at all the positive feedback I've received. Hubbers are great!!!
That's a beautiful hub Stephanie, beautiful and inspiring.
Congratulations. You deserve the prize.
Congrats tshort23
And the winners are...............................................................
Hey timing is everything (not really) I'm in a goofy mood today as you can probably tell by my hub entry........)))
Oh my goodness, Stephanie your images are quite cute, and the advice is just as cool. I may have to build a Bluebird house in the middle of my yard just to see those little baby birds! Congratulations on your staff pick win today!
tshort23 happy you were the daily drawing winner! Quite a HubPages welcome, huh? Looking forward to more of your hubs.
Have a super(Easter)weekend Hubbers!
K9 re bluebird houses, If you build it, they may come! When we put out our first bluebird house, it was occupied within a few hours. Good luck with it, and thanks so much for your nice comments and support.
Been away for a few days, so i need some catching up to do.
Congratulations sagebrush mama for winning the staff pick. I;m just back from reading it.
Fabulous and very detailed. A must read by all parents with kids (and the kids too) going off to live life on the campus.
And congrats also to Stephanie for the daily draw win.
Congratulations Mrs M. I enjoyed the article and found it very enlightening.
And congrats to you too Londonlady
Have all of the Apr 24th entries been posted? I do not see my Hub yet, and i did follow all the rules. Thanks
I can see your hub for the 23rd, but not the 24th even though it has the correct tag. I take it that was http://hubpages.com/hub/Cricket-Manure- … Fertilizer ?
Edit: no that was written two days ago, it must have been your ants hub, and it was in for the 23rd.
Thanks Izzy. I must be having memory problems:(
Congrats to all the winners. I cheated and went to the "contest"
Incredible job
Oooh! LOL you found out I update those first XD - I was wondering when someone would notice that!
Wow. So Mondays are really big contest days!
First, we must disucss the Week 3 winners. Best Hub goes to Mrs. Menagerie for What are Truffles? (Not the Chocolate Kind) and People's Choice goes to akirchner for Growing Potatoes: How To Grow Potatoes In Containers With You Tube Videos. I tip my hat to you, ladies!
And here are the winners for the past three days:
FRIDAY, APRIL 22ND
• Staff Pick winner: Linda Bliss for really cool dog birthday cake recipes
• Daily Drawing Winner: anujagarwal for a Hub on hypertension causes and treatment
SATURDAY, APRIL 23RD
• Staff Pick winner: ripplemaker for a guide to boosting your emotional health
• Daily Drawing Winner: John Sarkis for a Hub on philanthropy and counterintuitive-ism
SUNDAY, APRIL 24TH
• Staff Pick winner: Miss Lil' Atlanta on the Pembroke Welsh Corgi
• Daily Drawing Winner: toknowinfo for a Hub on the best dental fillings
Congrats to the winners!
A quick note: we've noticed that a lot of really great candidates (and winners too) have titles that are a bit too long. Try to keep your titles search-friendly by keeping them shorter than 65 characters (spaces included). But remember, going for long-tail, search-friendly titles that include common search keywords is ideal- so it's all about striking a balance
Congrats everyone I have to go read now, especially about dog birthday cakes since I have 3 dogs hhhmmmmm Fabulous job!!!!
Woo Hoooo! Thank you and congrats, congrats, congrats to all the winners!
