    Heya Hubbers!

So, you think you can write online?  PROVE IT!  Join in on HubPages' April contest and put your online writing skills to the test.

All you have to do is (after March 31st at 12:00pm PT) publish new Hubs (max five per day) that are completely original, longer than 400 words, and tagged with the WritingContest tag.

To check out your competition, you can view all contest submissions here.

For more information on the contest (including the all-important judging criteria), visit the So You Think You Can Write Online contest page.  If you would like to turn your April contest participation into a 30 Day Challenge, loop in and declare your participation in the official contest challenge thread.

      Hi Simone,
Its exciting that a new contest will start shortly. Can we have a clock at the contest page to know exactly how much time is left for contest to start . I always get confused with Time Zones.

Simone Smithposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Hi sid_candid- I'm so glad you'll be joining in on the contest!

We won't have a countdown clock this time around since there are no daily or weekly themes, so here is a Pacific Time Zone clock for reference: http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-z … ific-time/

For the duration of the contest, just be sure to not publish more than five contest entry Hubs in a 25 hour period big_smile

This is a great program and I thank you for it--quality hubs and a possible reward.
I believe I have a winner for the first day--but God knows there are some GREAT hubbers out there.

I'm looking forward to this challenge!  I'll try to write a hub a day but that depends on time and the topics so I'll just write as much as I can and post in AprilHubChallenge!

The very best of luck to everyone!

There are no bonus topics for this particular contest. Just write and publish hubs to your heart's content.

Hi Simone and all who are in for this challenge!

This Writers Contest has been a great experience for me while it lasted.
But I don't think I am cut-up for this as I am unable to do full justice to my writing.

My focus in hubpages is to be an art writer to share/teach about what I think I am good at and help widen my artistic horizon eventually  promote my services online.

But for this challenge I found myself going away from art  just because I needed more content. Being an art writer takes a lot of time, adding supporting artwork and photographs which I am unable to do at this rate.
Moreover, my work commitments makes this all the more challenging.

Thank you for everyone's support. And wish you all the luck for this April challenge.

        Kind Regards

I made a hub with all my effort and published it forgetting to add the tag "WritingContest" . But I realized it the next moment and put the tag. Will there be a problem?

I am also in the contest. I think sid is right. We need a countdown clock because sometimes it's really confusing for people who live in other parts of the world.

Actually we need a countdown clock so that we don't publish more hubs than required for a particular day.  That will be easier for us if you can do that.

If we have hubs created (maybe not written) but titles and links all made (but never published) will they count in the contest?

      Example:

      On March 8th I made:

      How to tame Dog Fur
      http://hubpages.com/hub/tame-dog-fur

During March I wrote 2 paragraphs. If I finish it up with pictures and other elements and hit publish on April 2nd, will it count as an entry for April 2nd?

soni2006posted 13 years agoin reply to this

Until and unless they are never published before publishing in the contest, they will count in the contest. If you have hit the published button anytime before, that will not count.

Yes looking forward to the start of this competition.  The fact that we can write on any subject we choose is the best rule for this competiton.

But it would, as one hubber pointed out,be a lot easier for us in Europe if you had a countdown clock.  Maybe you might think about it?

This may be a silly question but here goes...
Since the contest started mid-day, are new submissions to be after each 24 hour period of the first submission or is the calendar day a new day?  I don't want to accidently submit 2 hubs on one day since it will be hard enough writing one for every day of the contest.  Thanks for an answer!  :-)

                Hello Simone
I am in the Dubai region, so I maybe submitting it a few hours ahead of the day. Will that be a problem to get considered? yikes/ For instance I submitted the 2 April submission several hours before it would've struck 12 at your side.

Alright, folks.  First, you are all insane.  I've NEVER seen such amazing Hubs.  I mean... wow.  I.. there just are no words.  So I'll ahead and name our first winners:

Staff Pick: Len Cannon for My Computer's Fan Is Making Weird Noises! Diagnosing and repairing CPU fan problems

His topic is super niche, plus he shares some expertise that not everyone has.  It's a super useful Hub, and on a subject that does not already have extensive good coverage online.  The photos are original, his language is great, and his title is search-friendly and illustrative.

Daily Drawing: Kathryn Vercillo for How to Crochet an Easy Crochet Baby Blanket

BTW, KV has just written 1,000 Hubs.  1,000 HUBS!!!!  O____O

Honorable mention is due to some additional Hubs here:

http://hubpages.com/hub/dog-garden (the runner up for Staff Pick)
            http://hubpages.com/hub/Stuffed-Roast-C … free-range (Wow)
            http://hubpages.com/hub/Innovation-is-D … one-Before
            http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Y-Chromosom … g-of-a-Man
            http://hubpages.com/hub/visiting-scotland-on-vacation
            http://hubpages.com/hub/Most-Dangerous-Airports
            http://hubpages.com/hub/Mori-in-Uttaran … near-Delhi

The list could go on and on.  Seriously.  And a lot of these Hubs are going to be featured in the future in our brand new podcast series (see the HubPages blog for more details).  So props to all of you for the amazing Hubs, and pace yourselves - if you want to increase your chance of winning Staff Pick, I recommend publishing later in the contest, when all the early birds are pooped wink

Congrats to Len Cannon and Kathryn Vercillo!

            Hi there

I am quite excited to join the April Writing Contest and 30 day challenge. I already posted on 1st April and for the 2nd April one. But I think I am not doing it right even though I have placed the right tags. Must I post my hubs in a particular space to get recognized as a participant?

I think I have missed something....but as I see the April Writing Contest hubs posted here....I think I'll include it here
            April 1st - http://hubpages.com/hub/Childrens-Illustration
            April 2nd - http://hubpages.com/hub/An-artists-day-out

Sorry to sound so naive. Though I am 13 months old here, I have not been able to be around too often and never participated in hub contests.

            Thanks in advance.

The rules tell you everything you need to know:

Join HubPages (if you have not already - it’s free and easy!)!
Write an entry - keeping in mind the judging criteria! (the maximum number of entries is five per day)
Make sure it has the tag: WritingContest
              Click the “Publish!”

Keep in mind that all entries MUST...

              Include the tag: WritingContest
Be published for the first time on that given contest day
Be a minimum of 400 words
              Be entirely original to HubPages

I have published three hubs in April and I don't know if there are in the contest. I clicked contest and signed in after " you think... " showed up. I did not see any tag to tag the hub as contest and I did not add writingcontest to the hub title so I just don't know the position of the hub now. Can you advise on how I can link it to the contest. I did not see any publishing changes for the contest except "contest" on the top pages. I have other hubs to publish but it seems I have to wait.

When you first write a hub you will be given the choice to add tags at the beginning. After that if you look at the grey box on the right of the screen in the edit screen you can choose the tags, summary, etc.

To those who are unsure whether their submission registered:

            1. Look at http://hubpages.com/reports/sytycwo where you will find all qualified hubs listed. I believe this is only updating hourly, and then not until several minutes past the hour. So don't sweat it until, say, 15 minutes past the top of the hour after your submission time.

            2. Entries there are listed sequentially, first chronologically by "contest date" and then alphabetically by "username." If your submission isn't where you expect, look the day before or after. If you find it there, you need to study the time zone difference from where you live.

            3. If you don't find your submission after all the above, then go back to be sure you used the "writingcontest" tag (no space--I know fingers might rebel). If you add or correct that and you're still within the 24-hr contest day, it will count. If you didn't catch it until past the day's cut-off time, there's no second chance. Write a new article for tomorrow.

            4. No, there is no theme of the day as mentioned in the detailed rules. That's just fine print legalese that applied to a previous contest, but not to this one.

I don't speak officially for the HUbPages team here--just my observations.

loveSpaces I don't really know why you replied to my question with this post, as it seems more like spam than sharing. There is no need for you to put all your links here as you publish your Hubs, we all can see all the submissions in this link http://hubpages.com/reports/sytycwo.

The forums rules and Faq also have terms against excessive links in forum threads that lead to hubs unless they have a true meaning and add on to the topic being discussed, well I just wanted to mention it, don't get me wrong I don't mean to be mean or rude in anyway, take care.

You're right. And sorry - I did not intend to reply to your post - it was by mistake. As I saw others publishing here theirs contest articles - I was doing the same.

I was reading your question before publishing my contest hubs and I am interested in the reply too.

I have no idea that there are Bonus topics?!

Guess I must have missed something as I was just checking the submissions and do not find mine among them.

I wrote a hub for the contest
on April 1st and included Writing contest as a tag. Should I have done something else?

Would appreciate knowing what to do before I submit other hubs. Thank you.

It is "writingcontest" tag (no space)!!! Isaw that others were doing this similar mistake - so - please remove the space and check in the next hour if your article appear in the list. It should.

Thank you for answering my question. I've added the writingcontest tag and hope to see my submission in the list soon. It is too late for the daily drawing, but I still would like to be considered in the big pick.

                hmm
