Well I have tried to use the tag from the edit part but I did not get a tag  writingcontest but i trust i can still move the hubs I published tis month to the contest? i will try again because I saved some hub so i can use the edit to complete it. Will it be writingcontest or writing or join conest?

davidkaluge - once a Hub has been published, it can not be entered in the contest.  To be entered in a contest, a Hub must have a WritingContest tag when it is first published.  Hope that helps!

Hey everyone!  Just as a courtesy, can we try to keep from posting links to Hubs in this forum?

  3. davidkaluge profile image59

I just clicked the tag in the eidt session and wrote " writingcontest"  I trust that is what is required and I have just published more hub. I pray that it be it or else...

Well just publised two hubs today and I have to tpye the writingcontest before publishing but I had already tried that with my three earlier hubs i published this month. No problem even if it is not in the contest as I called " Am not afraid to take a step: let the contest begin" I trust people can still enjoy the read. I just want to have good time and share my messages that is my main target. I am glad to compete with the best

If that info is out there, I've missed it.

    Hi everyone!

The weekend winners are here!!!  Let's start with the staff pick winners:

Friday: leahlefler for The Best Hearing Loss Simulations: Understanding Audiograms and the Impact of the Speech Banana
Great niche topic (but one that still gets search traffic), not a lot of info already out there online on the subject, great writing, helpful advice, great images, and useful video!

    Saturday: IzzyM for Glasgow Gangsters
This is a subject that gets decent search traffic, but does not have a lot of good coverage already online.  The first three results for "Glasgow Gangsters" in Google don't match the search term exactly and don't have a page rank higher than three.  The Hub is thorough and interesting, and includes relevant images.  What's more, this Hub is part of a collection of related Hubs IzzyM just published, so that gives it more strength!

And the daily drawing winners are as follows:

Friday: L.L. Woodard for Facing Difficult Choices in Senior Care
Saturday: Judowolf for What It Is Like Working For Hospice - Part 5 - PAIN CONTROL

    Congrats, y'all!!

I'm sorry, I posted a thread with a link to my latest hub. This is my first contest. I just joined hubpages recently and I thought that's what you're supposed to do. HAHA, sorry. Now I can't find my post to delete it. If it appears please accept my apology. I'm joining this contest (a few days late) but I'll do my best to stick it out and I'll try to even add a couple extra to make up for lost time. - Dan

The results display an interesting insight into what Hubpages are looking for:
=> Ultra Obscure niche topics: Dog Garden, Glasgow Gangsters, Fixing a Computer fan !!
=> Strong use of niche marketing strategies - Find a good tool now!
Ah well back to the drawing board!
Do I really want to write about such things??
Do I really want to read about such things??
    Cheers,

  15. Charlu profile image78
    Charluposted 13 years ago

Obscure is an understatement but they are good hubs.  I'll stick to what I know a little about and research the rest.  I don't care if it's an over done subject as long as I'm on the first page. That just means that many more people searching. Maybe I'll win the drawing.

    1. Simone Smith profile image81
Simone Smithposted 13 years agoin reply to this

It doesn't have to be obscure to be niche - if you go for a more popular topic, just be sure to narrow down your focus in an area that hasn't been extensively covered already big_smile

  16. IzzyM profile image83
    IzzyMposted 13 years ago

Thanks to those that congratulated the winners smile

To JAnderson, this is what 'niche' means. It's maybe a minority interest, but an interest none the less, to either the writer or the searcher, or perhaps even both.
I can't speak for other winners but I find your comment to be both unnecessary and offensive. Whether it's your cup of tea or not, is not the point. If you don't like the subject, don't read the hub. Easy.

I'm as surprised as anyone to be chosen because there are some great hubs out there, maybe even yours ( I don't know because I haven't read any of them, I don't think).

Hey I'm pleased I won a prize. I'd be pleased for you if you did too. I wouldn't make the post you made in a public forum.

Now the Sunday winners are ready!!!

The Staff Pick winner is PrettyPanther for Raising Nigerian Dwarf Goats: Perfect for a Small Farm.
It's wonderfully niche (but there are still lots of online searches for Nigerian Dwarf Goats), has great tips and original photos, and is full of useful information!

The Daily Drawing winner is dark_justics1986 for A look at the new Saints Row: The Third

I posted my hub at the wrong time (early am). I thought it would be listed in todays entries.  It went to April 3rd entries instead of April 4th. I guess I miss out on the daily pick and drawing. I have made one blunder after another in this contest ='[

@ DaNoblest, you didn't miss it. You just didn't get picked--for the 3rd. Now write one for the 4th and submit anytime before noon tomorrow Pacific time.

I think by entering it after 12am on monday and before 12pm the same day I fell into no mans land where technically it was the 4th but I entered too early and ended up at the tail of the 3rd entries.

I know it was my fault for not understanding the time specifications. I am not so upset now for missing the boat.

Howard - or anyone that can understand the timing - if we post an entry between 12am and 12pm Pacific Time (which makes that entry get classified as the PREVIOUS day), how does it still get there in time for the judging deadline? Do they judge all entries 1 day behind? (i.e. are entries classified as the 4th on the list get judged on the 5th then???)

I understand that everything is supposed to work out somehow.... but can anyone explain to me exactly how?? Thanks so much, I'm just a bit confused here - but excited about the contest though!

        1. Howard S. profile image74
Howard S.posted 13 years agoin reply to this

@ Giselle: A contest day closes at noon the following day. That means that entries submitted up until noon on the 6th were in the judging stack for the 5th and bore that date for judging purposes, even though your "account stats" will still say it was "first published" on the 6th. If it helps--and it probably won't--think of it as the judges looking at a clock in India and a calendar from 2010. roll

If I thought it would do any good, I would suggest (again) that they use a midnight cutoff time in order to synchronize with the calendar date.

Thank you so much for responding, Howard!   What you said makes total sense, and it also tallies with what melbel recently said further down this forum page.

Finally it's all clear to me now - I think I was getting all confused because of the calendar date vs contest date being 12h apart, even though I had the Pacific Time part down OK. .

Thanks again for your help.  It's not just this response either; I've noticed you've put a lot of helpful info into your posts in this forum & it has really helped answer common questions, especially for those of us (like me) for whom this is their first contest.

Have a look at my travel ones if you are interested.  Happy hubbing.

Simone, there appears to be some kind of technical glitch with my entry.  I wrote and published a hub yesterday, but when I click on http://hubpages.com/reports/sytycwo, it shows that I published it April 3.  I'm not sure how that happened, but it's wrong.  I'd hate to lose my entry due to some weird technical error, so I wanted to let you know.  Thanks.

I agree that there is a glitch. It seems to be adding new entries just fine, but dropping off the earliest ones, first-in-first-out, due to a maximum buffer size of 1000. March 31 is eroding.

The number that's important to me is how many entries per day, or at least so far today compared with yesterday.

So, to get the timing issue clarified, I submitted a hub at about 6:15am PT on Tues Apr 5th (I'm on ET so it was 9:15am ET).  However, on the list of submissions, my entry got classified in the previous day (Monday Apr 4th)! Is this because it was submitted before 12:00 noon PT on the 5th that it got put back to the previous day??  And does it stand a chance at being judged when that happens, or did I miss the deadline for that because of the timing of my submission??

Sorry this might be a dumb question.. but I'm still confused even after reading here and I want to make sure I understand how it all works so that I don't make any mistakes with the timing next time.

Just look at it this way- so long as you're not publishing more than five Hubs in one 24 hour period, and you're not publishing at the very beginning or end of the contest, it doesn't matter *when* you publish.  So no worries!

Staff Pick: Mutiny92 for his scuba diving in Catalina Hub!
It is on a subject that is not extensively covered already, has a clear, search-friendly, illustrative title, includes some very useful and well-organized tips (nice, separate headers, info broken down into bite-sized images), great photos, useful maps, and relevant but spare Amazon products.

Daily Drawing: soni2006 for his in-home workout Hub!

Congrats you two!!! And props to everyone else.  Today's deliberation took HOURS.  I am extremely stressed from it all.  So I am going to go eat some flaky biscuits and apple tarts (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!).

Hey folks, we know you're excited about your submissions; we're excited about your submissions!  But please remember that self-promotional linking in the forums is prohibited, even in the contest thread.

Thanks all!  Keep on Hubbing it up!

I was starting to have extreme anxiety....my internet service provider is having trouble with the dsl connections and I have without the internet for the past few days.  If it wasn't for the option of dail-up I would still be offline.  Although, trying to accomplish anything with dial-up isn't a walk in the park.  Work that generally takes 20 minutes now takes like 2 hours.  AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!  I am glad to read the contest entries finally and also submit some of my own!!!!!!  Great job to everyone thus far....

HI Tweetmom, try clicking the more button...you will see other stuff like edit, delete and report etc.. smile  But the edit and delete button will appear only for a certain period (am not sure how long).  After you will only see report and permalink buttons.  Hope this helps the next time around.
