Has anyone else noticed that "She Told Me" now charges you to post links? I hope all of these sites don't start this. I'm not sure how much I make a month from the site to make up for the $5.00 charge. I probably just won't use it anymore.

I've seen this talked about a whole lot both on HP and Info Barrel.

I had been talking to James Colin on the same day that he started charging for the use of shetoldme. . . .but he never mentioned that to me!

I'm not going to use that site anymore, but what I would recommend or consider doing is buying one month a year, and then just making STM links for everything I've wrote that year, making certain that I do it all in that one month.

I tried to register with shetoldme.com but he had closed registration. I received and email stating registration was now open, but there is a charge. Dilemma, does that equate to paying for backlinks? Breech of G's TOS?

There are a lot of sites like this - I believe in general that this is considered a membership and way to get rid of spammers and control the type and quality of writers.

Hey, thanks for saying that!!!  I hadn't thought of that angle, and that is enough to make it a bad thing to be a part of.

I'm going to use Article Blast more - because it's easy to use, and it's a better looking site.  No, Article Blast doesn't give you any adsense earnings, but it's easy, free, and just a better site, I think.

No problem. Since starting at HP I've become a bit paranoid about what G does or does not allow, since having a hub unpublished due to using a link exchange (I didn't even know what a link exchange was)

Here's one that I used a couple times until I figured out that there was something fishy about it "plug a link" - that's a traffic exchange to stay away from.

I wish Hubpages would just create a blog titled "TRAFFIC SITES AGAINST OUR TOS" so we'd all know not to mess with those things - as I wasn't sure that that was what "plug a link" was until I asked someone.

Yes it's really confusing. When you start writing at hubpages you imagine that if someones wrote a hub about a great place to backlink then it must be within the rules. I've actually considered writing a hub entitled ' where not to backlink for new writers'

I totally think that you SHOULD write that hub!

Oh boy that would be so helpful. Great idea for a hub!

Buying just a month a year is a great idea. Thanks.

I didn't know that paid sites are again Google TOS. I guess I just won't use it anymore.

I just wrote them to find out if we are still going to earn from articles already posted.

I'm with you on this one. I am just going to stop using it. There seems to be plenty of other sites offering the same facility.

SheToldMe was one of my favorite places to bookmark, it helped websites index faster and had a nice layout to it. However, I went there Wednesday and was horrified when it said 'Access Denied', no way am I going to pay $5 a month.

This is a bad move by the site owner, it is not going to prevent spam because you will always get bad posters no matter who signs up. My only thought is will Best-Reviewer follow suit?(owned by the same person)

I hope not.  I get steady traffic from Best Reviewer.

James told me personally in an e mail that he was starting two more sites 1. for health topics, and 2. for money topics.

I'm just not paying to write for anyone.

Well screw that one. I was going to check it out, glad I didn't. I still think there are good ways to promote your website organically. It just takes a bit longer to get noticed.

I used to use shetoldme. Not anymore, obviously. His timing for charges couldn't have been worse. Just when a few of us are seeing traffic and income fall over the edge of a cliff is not a good time to ask for money!

The shetoldme site says the $5/month is for "premium" membership. I can still get into my account there without paying anything. My take on it was that levels of membership have now been introduced and the lowest one is free, still.

But do they allow you to post your hubs for free with that lowest membeship? I was shocked about the charge as well, as I like the way the site looks too. I have to agree with Izzy on this one, really bad timing for She told Me to ask for money. hmm

It keeps giving me Access Denied when I try clicking on Publish or Add a Link. Maybe this is temporary.

That's what was happening to me a as well Barbara. I think we have to pay for an upgraded membership before posting any more items. A real bummer.

I went to backlink my employers website and thats when I saw it. I need as many backlinks as I can in a short time because I'm trying to get our new landing page to update in Google search. The description still displays something linked to the hosting account at the moment hmm

Any new sites you've found useful Iz? I don't want to use Social Monkee because I need it whitehat

I used to use that site in 2010. No way I am ever using it again now. I don't think it really helped me that much anyway.

    Why is he charging now?

In some ways it's annoying, in others I don't care too much.  I certainly won't be paying.  I was lucky if I earned 10 cents a month from it and I always thought that the 100% Adsense promotion of it was a deliberate deception, as in reality you only got 100% of one Google ad and the rest of the ad money went to Shetoldme - why not just be honest about it?

Probably got some minor benefits in backlinks, who knows, there are other places to get backlinks anyway.  :-)

I think I prefer the RedGage model, where they pay you, rather than the other way around!  :-)

I guess everyone lost money with the Panda hit.  I made about 20 to 30 a month on SheToldMe.  I wrote the guy and they said those who already had links on the site will still continue to receive any earnings.

2besure, I wondered if that was possible. Now I can't try harder there. I used to make good money at Xomba too. One month $100.00, but Panda has hurt them too and now you can no longer add Hubpage links there.

Panda sure hurt a lot of people.
