I am pretty new to Hubpages and writing on the internet in general. So I only have a few Hubs. My problem is that I just had one of my hubs unpublished for Duplicate content. From what I gather the hub was published for all of two days and then taken down. I had people comment and vote on my hub as well. My hub is about my family’s experience with the Muppets.
Now I can understand that there are millions of websites and even more people writing new ones. So it is possible for someone to have already written that same sentence as me. But my problem comes with trying to correct it. I removed certain sections of my hub a piece at a time hoping to find the part that is considered to be a duplicate and the error was still there after I removed ALL of my hubs content. Is there a way to find out what part of your hub is considered Duplicate content?
Did you post the same article elsewhere?
No, I haven't. I think I will try changing my capsule titles a little more. This is really stumping me. Even with no content I am told that I have duplicate content.
Purple Turtle,
Immediately write the Hubpages (HP) staff. If it is a mistake they will fix it, or they will tell you why. Here is what you can do in the meantime.
(1) Copy the first sentence or two and do a Google search. Someone may have lifted your article. Do this with a few sentences. If its been lifted, you will find an exact match.
(2) You may have duplicate capsules across your own articles. For instance, if you have three articles, some of them link together, and you have a "follow me on twitter" capsule that you just copied onto all of your hubs, you will start getting flagged for duplicate content.
(3) If you are writing about quotes, or lyrics, or something where you need to cite something verbatim, this could also raise a flag. Contact HP and get an exception for using quotes.
Your article will not get flagged for duplicate content by the happenstance chance that someone on the Internet somewhere wrote the same sentence as you. It needs to be "substantially similar."
I hope this helps.
Anyone with concerns about duplicate content and who wants to check if they have been copied and how much is on the other site might find Copyscape a useful site. Not sure how others feel about it but I like it as it is simple to use you just put the URL in to the search box. There is a limit to the number of scans you can run per month for free but that is enough for me.
A Hubber also had a site for checking copied work but I cannot recall the name of it just now.

Edweirdo has a system that costs a small fee, but it does let you know if your hubs have been copies elsewhere called 'Hubdefender'.

Sorry that was no use to you in this case. I think contacting the HubPages team might be the quickest way to find out what is happening, hope that will with sort this out quickly for you.
Just checking - you are fully aware of what duplicate is, right?

Even if you quoted a song from the muppets, or published the same piece on your blog, it's considered duplicate.

What is duplicate content? When I get flagged for duplicate content, it kind of breaks my heart, especially when I write something that is totally original - no quotes, no links, etc. I see so many "duplicate" hub oriented hubs and wonder why they exist without being flagged as duplicate...

I found out this morning that this site had stolen at least 2 of my hubs. The more I looked, the more I noticed that it appears every single post on the site is a stolen hub, completely copied in most cases (including the authors' names and copyright notes, ironically). I see lots of names of...

Got a bunch of duplicate content warnings and I am not sure if Hubpages found duplicate content in my Hubs or on the web. If Hubpages finds duplicate content, how hard is it for them to share with us where they found it and what exactly they found? It sure would save and lot of time and...

Hi everyone,I know there have been a lot of concerns about our hub content being stolen. It has been difficult for all of us to keep an eye on our hubs - plagurising is rife! However, I wanted to share a freebie with everyone (I like free!) that will search the Internet for duplicate...

This is puzzling to say the least. One of my hubs, i.e.Product Review : The Yamaha EF2000is Portable Generatorhas been flagged for duplicate content. Yet ONLY the title, NOT the content, is anything other than 100% original work. In fact, it's a blow-by-blow account of our...

I am moving this question over here to ask for help from the hubpages team.2 of my hubs and some of hovalis' hubs seem to have had a penalty applied by google and have disappeared from the search rankings down to the last page. The conclusion we have come to is that they have been flagged for...
