      If I recall correctly - Hub ads have not been running for 2 years so the conclusion is not relevant.

      Yes ! You should know that HP ad program is the new feature. 2 years ago there was no HP ad program. You should also look at the number of my Hubs - I have written only 29 Hubs.

   i received one too today and it was a very nice surprise amount... talk about nice timing right before christmas!!! 
   
   ...how the heck does this actually work?... i'm still not clear on how we earn with this.. can anyone clarify...

      Have you enrolled into the HubPages Ad Program? If not, then you received your payment from Google Adsense? I would hazard to guess.

      If you're just using Google Adsense, then you were paid by Google Adsense, as part of their revenue sharing program, which means you earned from the ads Google displays on your hubs. You share 60% of the impressions, which you earn 100% of the revenue from, while HubPages earns from the remaining 40% of impressions.

    I only recently started the HubAds program, myself, (I think some time in November) and I was stoked to see my payment in my email inbox today.
    
    Unfortunately for me, my PayPal is in Chinese (which I can't read) and whenever I translate it into English, it just goes back to Chinese. (Awesome PP bug!) So I had some difficultly in withdrawing it, but no biggie there.

       Chinese? Why don't u change the language. In Paypal.com homepage look for the flag (upper right corner) , you will see 2 option , the first one is the list of country and the second one is list of language. Select English instead of Chinese, this should work fine
