A Different Way to Make Money with Hubpages and Create Traffic

I have been sharing the links to other hubs using my referral tracker. For newbies, it can be found at the bottom of each hubpage. This is earning me a little extra money. I don't spam, but share the links that I know my friends would like.

Now that Google traffic is down, I figure this helps me, other hubbers and Hubpages. I think if the entire community would do a little bit of this, it would help all of us. There is always the buttons for Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter too. I don't think these buttons include your referral tracker though.

Is it easy to use - I haven't looked into it? Can a beginner get through the process?

Yes, anyone can do it. Just use the feature at the bottom of the hubpage.  It says link to this page. A box will popup and you just copy it and paste it where you want to use it.
I think you get 1/10th of the income, but if you share popular hubs and hubs you know others will like, you can make some extra money.

Great, Barbara.  You had written a Hub a couple months ago mentioning Yahoo groups as another way to gently promote in common interest groups.  I like your ideas.  Please remind me, which Hub is it that I'm thinking of now....

Emphasis on gentle. As in no links in the body, only in the source box. I got banned after answering like four questions. sad

This is what that feature was invented for.  There is nothing "different" about how you are using it.

No, it isn't, but I don't think a lot of people are aware of its use.

Wow, thanks, I'm new here.  Some said they've been here three years and don't know about this feature--"internal links"--is that what's called. Its really a heads up.
Could it also be used for external links?
      Thanks once again.

Posting them here won't work. At least I don't think so. Share them on social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Groups etc or just with friends.

It has helped me a ton. I also add links into my own hubs, leading to other authors hubs. That 9-12% earned add up over time.

I don't know anything about anything, I appreciate helpful advice....I just started writing hubs and would love to make money doing it! Does anyone actually have a clue how much the most popular hubbers make?? I just signed up for adsense but nobody ever even clicks on the ads...

Claudi, Use this link and it will let you know what is possible. Not everyone can achieve this, but it is well worth a try. http://hubpages.com/success/

I have read through this before and it indeed is very encouraging! I am just wondering how it all works and how these people actually make money...a lot of people visit my hubs, just nobody clicks on the ads. But I have only been here for about a week...so I hope I can figure it out!! smile THANKS, Barbara!!

claudi1176, you might try the Hubpages Ad program if you aren't making much through Adsense. I don't make very much through adsense, but I make payout almost every month through the Hubpages Ad program. It's worth a try if you aren't getting great revenue through Adsense alone.

Welcome to the site (from one newbie to another!).  Regardung the success stories - there are indeed wonderful opportunities to make money on this site. Many longtime Hubbers have mentioned their traffic and earnings have fluctuated, especially in recent months (Marye Audet posted a forum thread sharing some of her experiences). As Marye has said, though, these cycles will pass, and good writers can still succeed.  HubPages is a great site - of the gazillion or more sites in the cyberworld, it is ranked in the top 100 (around 60, I think).

Marcy, I've tried two other sites and have never done as well as here, so I agree with you. It has a better set-up to write hubs than other sites too.

Thank you for the great advice! Will definitely look into it. I signed up for the amazon one too but don't really understand how it works ... I will just need to do some reading on it, I guess. I just love writing so much more than reading business stuff hmm

Where do you actually paste the referral tracker, is it in the URL at the top of the page? Do you have to paste the HTML?

    1. Barbara Kay profile image75
Barbara Kayposted 12 years agoin reply to this

The box that pops up already has the url highlighted. You just need to copy it with your computer and paste it at Facebook, groups you belong to etc.

  7. Marcy Goodfleisch profile image77
    Marcy Goodfleischposted 12 years ago

The referral tracker is embedded into the URL when you use the Link to This Page feature.  At the very bottom of each hub, you'll see those words (near where the blog link Ppears).  When you click on them, it opens a window that has your default referral tracker (one the site assigned to you) embedded in the URL for that hub.  Just highlight, copy and past it to wherever you want to drive traffic to that hub - Facebook, Pinterest, whatever.

You can also create custom trackers if you want to keep tabs on the traffic you get from various sites. If you go to your Accounts page, click on earnings, and then on Referral Trackers, there's a way to create a unique code for specific tracking.

Hope this makes sense - it's one of those things more easily explained visually rather than in words!

Hubpages still remain the best revenue sharing site. No matter how complex google algorithm would be, some hubbers will still stand the test of time.

This is my semi-rant for the day...

Last weekend I got inspired and sent about a 100 visitors to other hubbers hubs via my blog and using trackers.

I know this is true because:

    A. My blog stats say so.

    B. My HP referral stats say so.

Not only did I get zero ad clicks, I got a grand-slam total of only one view where my ads were displayed. I thought maybe I had messed up my adsense settings somehow, so I did a year-to-date. Sure enough there was an occasional hub view/click of an ad outside my subdomain, but within HP. So I know that adsense is working fine, too.

I'm still going to leave all the HP links on my website. What's good for HP is good for me.

If someone comes on here and tells me I screwed something up, and tells me what and how I did it; I will love you, not hate you. smile big_smile smile
