Does anyone else have a problem with a troll/ comment spammer on their hubs? Any suggestions for getting rid?

Just in the last few minutes several of my hubs have been 'attacked' by spammers. Looks like someone is using software.

Me too - I just changed my global settings to only allow signed in users to comment. Do you think that will help? I was going to disable comments completely on the one that had 45 spam comments, but it wouldn't let me do that on just one hub.

How do you do that? I didn't know you could change the settings..

Hi Gabgirl - sorry I didn't see this sooner. You can find the global settings by going to your statistics page. On the left side is a dark grey box with different options. Choose "comments" and it will take you to a page where you can change the settings.

btw - since I did that, I haven't had any more problems with spammers. It either worked... or it coincided with Hubpages taking action. Either way - I'm happy!

Yes, it started last night and is continuing today. I've been deleting them as soon as I notice them, but it is very annoying.

Same here. I wish it was possible to block specific IP addresses from commenting.

I just got 2 new ones myself. The HP filter auto-killed them both; bless its fuzzy little heart.

If you flag the comments as spam, and a lot of Hubs report the same person, it won't take long for the auto-filter to learn this person and comments will be auto-flagged as spam.

I have seen several threads today about spam comments. Evidently spam is all over HP today.

That's how you know someone with software is attacking the site.

it's bizarre. such a shame if it's a software thats targetted us we are likely to not be getting ad impressions!

I've had one hub with 25 spam comments overnight- yet on 2 views!

Yes I have the same problem. Comments from people with weird names making statements irrelevant to the subject matter of the hub.

HP usually gets spammers coming along prior to the weekend tongue there were weekends where we had to spend time flagging the forums for spam. It's not bad now but I've found moderating my comments, I don't get them as much.
