Anger and stress are self induced emotional responses to the world around us. We get angry, we get stressed. No one person or event or thing "makes" us angry or stressed. We do it ourselves. So how do we stop? I distract myself most of the time if I feel a negative emotional response. I walk away and do something else that occupies my mind and body so I am no longer walking toward that anger or stress. I can sink into a good book, I can clean my house, I can go wash the car. I can do any number of things to avoid the negatives. Just because someone does something that I consider stupid or hurtful, just because my boss yelled at me,I don't have to allow anger to take over, I can walk away, walk off the negative, and perhaps learn to think about what happened in a broader more objective way and come away from the experience with new insight.
