The "REAL" of the matter is "We were created in the image of God;" therefore, spirits! It would behoove ALL to LISTEN to the Word of God for the Time is Nigher than You "Think!"
I John 2:3-5!

I believe my most recent Hub, http://hubpages.com/education/Existence … a-Numbers, is probably the only answer other than saying "what is is real" to this question, anything else is but a fraction of what is real.
Perception is reality.
Most humans subscribe to "seeing is believing" philosophy.
Unicorns are not reality because no one has ever seen one.
If you don't know it exists then it's not a reality in (your world).
However once one knows more or understands something better they have a (new perspective/reality) theoretically.
Reality demands proof! It's why atheists don't believe in God.
Truth is just because we don't know of or believe something doesn't mean it's not in existence. Reality ends up being whatever the masses have "agreed" upon at the time.
(Exploring and discovery changes everything!)
For many years the earth was {known to be flat} and that was "reality" for people in that era's perception.
Later we would "discover" the world is round!
I recently ran across someone attempting to get to believe the earth is flat again. My response was why should all bodies in existence be round and rotating but not the earth, that ended communicating on the subject.
This is such a cool question because it is always timely. Ask it today and next week there easily may be a new answer. I am working on a hub on this so I will be a little brief.
What is empirical? Generally that which can be experience through the senses. -- Now we are pretty much in agreement that there are more than 5, So the reality via empirical data is changing.
Truly fascinating. Opinions are real, but they can be wrong. Cartoons are real -- but not real beings.
Cogito Ergo Sum.
To me reality is the life I live right now. I am a grandmother of 2 and a mother of 3. Life hasn't been easy. But because of my faith, I can see beyond what I live right now. I know there is more. I have a family member with mental illness and their veiw of reality is very scary. It makes you think differently. But to them it's real. From what I've experienced you can actually change your perception and that will change your reality.
The schools of thought regarding the cognitive reframing, And cognitive re-framing. Are interesting in the realm of reality. I like the term cognitive restructuring. We can all see the positive as opposed to the negative.
I like the use of the term "Faith" ("things unseen") because I NEVER could have made it w/o it!
You can "actually change your perception [which] changes your reality" for that's what God wants from each of us (Eph4:21-32)!
May God cont to Bless!!!
Your reality is what YOU construct it to be. Two people may live side by side, yet their realities are totally different. The very simple rhyme, "two men looked out through prison bars, one saw mud, the other stars" sums it up.
Very interesting. I would go one further. One person will have totally different realities even as seconds pass by.
I remember the adage Dashing Scorpio used; "Reality is Perception" used by a former employer every day. I modified it to "Reality is Perception that is accepted". I must insert saying the criteria of acceptance is vast and varied ranging many spectra. in other words why should I accept another or something's perception as mine and vice versa? And, then I ponder the relationship I have with reality . . .
The bottom line for me reality is the seed of paradox. Right now I am pondering Hegel's Master - Slave relationship while contemplating which is reality and which is me? I found this quote that may apply:
"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words."
~ Philip K. Dick
I bow to those artists who can think in artform rather than words in our minds. I am thinking of people who see music with colors in their mind. I kinda' think 'today' most communicate with ourselves by the words we conjure. For instance, right now I do recognize the fence outside my window is faded brown, but to think about it took words for me. I said to myself, "It is less brown". There is no matter what is browner it only matters it is less and is brown rather than is brown. Did I manipulate reality?
I am wandering . . . oops! . . . thus, for me, reality is a paradox . . .
Agreed; according to man or "thinking" in the flesh!
I desire people know GOD for He "desires know one is lost" (II Pet 3:9) & how HE "works" in us to replace "man's thinking"(Phil2:13)!
I cry!
Reality is that which is factual and can be proven. It's not what we wish it to be. Reality refers to those things that are present and you may not be able to change them or wish them away. It is what it is and you just have to adjust yourself to suit the situation .
"Reality is that which is factual and can be proven" Do you count love and faith and pain in this notion.
Absolutely, Love, pain and faith can all be proven. For example it's possible to prove whether or not you are in love with someone, or that they are in love with you. And that's reality. And it's the same for faith it only depends on your belief

A friend and I had a conversation/discussion on this and she believes such occurrences are proof that God is real. She went on to say:If evil spirits are out there, there must be good spirits...like angels God is real.Equal and opposite reaction argument. While I understand her theory or reasoning on...

Do you think that belief in something requires thinking it is real?If not, please explain how one would go about believing in something one does not think to be real if no clear physical evidence for it exists.

Do you think any kind of afterlife exists?
