I have noticed a lot of people with low scores asking questions.  Your question enlightened me to why this is happening.
I think it is great, the more people who sign up the more opportunity we have to create back links to our profiles.

I have noticed this also.  The best part is, Hubbers are providing intelligent answers to questions.  This is a great community, our strong reputation is Global!  Thanks for the question.

Hey, isn't that wonderful?  I've got lots of knowledge that might be useful to somebody somewhere, and if I can get that to them via hubpages, then that's a wonderful thing.  It's also wonderful if I manage to make something for myself for doing it.

Yes, I know in the next 2 years or so hubpages will be hot cake for google, amazon, kontera, ebay, etc. This is wonderful.
I also notice that our hubs are top ranked in google search engine. Waooooooh!

Though the hubbers might be intelligent, I must disagree with you that you can use hub-pages as a primary source of information that can be quoted. Most hubsters are here to make $, or what ever ending of that $ but still think about your primary sources. They are what drives the truth. hubpages just reveals it through its members.

Yeah, I noticed a lot people just use the forums or answers sections, and do not publish any hubs.

...soon this portion will be called "hubapedia"..........think of all the facets of answers you get this way vs just one person's opinion.......an unimaginable wealth of life experiences all in one instant spot...

Although it does look like Hubpages are turning into 'wiki' I must agree with drperetz. Hubpages are used by a lot of people to earn money and to obtain valuable back links to another 'monetized' website. I know this is not the case for all user (me included, I love Hubpages) I am seeing a worrying amount of people using this valuable tool as just another place to SPAM.

Seems to me hub pages has a lot of people tricked into thinking they are going to get some big pay off... All they are doing is hiring a bunch of people and not paying them. This is no different than myspace, Facebook or any other social networking site. Please don't glamorize it to be anything other than that.

Although I do not know the reasons others have signed up, I can tell you why I signed up.  I signed up because I have always enjoyed writing.  I do have some funds in my affiliate accounts so I know that when those accounts reach the cashout threshold, I will receive checks from those affiliates.  I've got sense enough to know that I probably won't make a living writing for HubPages although anything is possible.  The best part of HubPages for me is all the new people I have met.  So, yes Merlin, there are new Hubbers asking questions more than they are writing.  The best way to learn about someone or something is to ask questions,  And I also have seen many profiles with the sole purpose of selling a specific product or service.    Thanks for giving us something nice to ponder.

I love that this is happening, A friendly place where you can simply ask a question, post a hub for fun/profit, make friends, and on and on. All that is missing is games on here and we got a much improved Facebook or Myspace!

But seriously though, if it keeps growing we keep growing and I love that.
