Why have we found no life on other planets?

   There are millions of other worlds in countless star systems in thousands of galaxies yet we have found no life yet....Why?  Is it because there is no other life in the universe?  Is it because there use to be thousands and millions of years ago, but no longer?  Is it because there will be life elsewhere but not now?
   
   I find it interesting that we look for life elsewhere but don't take into consideration our own planet.  Earth has not always had life on it, but it does now.  One reason is because of the sun.
   
   Stars start out very hot (blueish in nature).  When they cool down enough they turn yellow like our sun.  The coldest stars are red.  If the sun was any hotter than it is we would all die from heat.  If it was any colder we would die by way of freezing to death.
   
   It took the earth and sun a long time to get just right for life to dwell here.  This could also be true of other planets in other systems as well.  They may not be ready to sustain life yet.  Maybe in a few hundred million years (when we have past on)  there will be.  What's your opinion?

      There can of course be several reasons why we have not been successful in finding life on other planets the original poster correctly states, it is possible that there is none or if there was it is extinct
      
      However I think the most obvious reason is distance, the nearest solar system to ours is Alpha Century and to be honest we know very little about it.  For all we know life could be booming there and all around without us knowing...

      I think that's what SETI has been trying to accomplish, finding an "intelligent" life that may also have discovered radio waves and other forms of communication, and that they would get a blip of some signal from some point within our galaxy. No such luck, as yet.
      
      But, there's also the other possibility that there is a lot of different lifeforms on other planets just like there is here, but does not necessarily have a species that developed in the same way as hominids, and hence no way for them to communicate with us.
      
      We would literally have to go there to find out.

      There's increasing evcidence to show something creating methane below the surface of Mars; to which bacteria is probably the best explaination - we also have a lot of meteor's which show amino acids within them - though this isn't obviously full-blown "life".
      
      The basic answer to your question is that it's incredibly difficult to tell. If anything lives on Mars, Europa or elsewhere in our solar system, then it does so either subterraneanly or under a think layer of ice.
      
      We don't have the technology to say on planets outside of our solar system at present.

   Because they know we are looking for them.
   
   Seriously, though; they are out there. Otherwise, the universe is just a giant waste of space.
   
   Edit: And we know nature abhors a vacuum.

      What a great answer!  Too bad you got to the "they know we're looking for them" before I did.  Perhaps we haven't found them yet because we haven't had the chance to get to every single planet.  Just because we haven't seen it doesn't mean it isn't there.

   I'm sorry!! What about ET???! and those nasty Martians from War of the Worlds!!?? you need to get out more....the aliens invaded awhile ago and blew the White House up and various worldwide landmarks on Independence day...no life on other planets, if it was filmed and caught on camera it is real!!!!
   
   Just watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers and I won't go to sleep ever!!!!!!!!

   We have not found life on many of the other planets because many of them are simply not suitable to support life and if there is life on other planets a lot of them are probably microorganisms. We can see in our own solar system there is life on only one of the eight planets so far. Furthermore, if there is life somewhere else in the universe most likely it is probably no more complex than we are.

   Because all we can do is locate planets. We can't explore them.
   
   We will find some type of life on a different planet in due time. We may or may not understand it(at this point), that is the thing.
   
   When I say life, that could mean a tiny organism.. Don't expect to see people walking around.. It depends on the conditions of the planet that they are on. And whatever evolution makes, it makes. Odds are it won't be anything like us..
