Have you ever worked backstage in a theatre performance?
For several summers during high school, I worked Summerstock. Everyone had both a part on stage, as well as working backstage as stage hands. Have you ever had this experience?
I have directed Musical Theatre for nearly 30 years. When I first started out in theatre, I knew in my heart that one day I would be directing. I also knew that I would have to learn all aspects of the theatre to beable to understand everything that goes on behind the scenes as well as in front. So, I set goals and with every production I was involved with (whether acting or behind scenes), I would ask to be a part of any department that needed extra help. Lighting, costumes, props, tech, sound, set design and set building, advertising, and more. You name it, I did it and I am so thankful that I did. I have won awards for my productions and have had actors cast in movies as well as costume designers who have gone on to work at movie studios. I've enjoyed every minute of my 30 years in the theatre.
Getting involved in community theatre can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a lifetime. There are many facets of community theatre that are available if acting isn't your thing. read more
I did once for a play in junior high, but I can't remember the name though. Got free food from the concession stand for helping out.
I was stage manager for a run of "Marvin's Room" at the Generic Theater in Norfolk, VA a while back..... Great fun....
Many tasks under my belt from stage hand to run crew to fly rail operator to design (for back/offstage work).
