I have two movies I always watch during X-mas time. I watch Nightmare Before Christmas on Christmas Eve and Hogfather on Christmas Day while we open presents.
What is your holiday movie tradition?
Charlie Brown and It's A Wonderful Life
Ah yes! I forgot about that one. Though it is short, we always watch that one too and catch the other movie with it, Horton Hears a Who. lol
"Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" (aka "The Simpsons Christmas Special"), "Rudolph," "Frosty," and of course, Charlie Brown.
If this was a poll, these two might be winners, plus Miracle on 34th Street
And if you have kids, maybe "A Charlie Brown Christmas"
Back in Wales(when my mother was alive ) the movie was always 'Wizard of Oz' - not sure why it was always on at Christmas!
I also love the Jason and the Argonauts which was always shown around the same time to!
I am with you on The Muppet Christmas Carol. I have watched it every year around Christmas since I was a child and now I get to watch it with my twins.
I love Labrynth, but my daughter can't hang with anything that resembles something scary so that and Legend are out for now. She also doesn't care for muppets, except for Fraggle Rock, which makes me sad since I grew up on The Muppet Christmas Carol and every other concoction they came up with.
I have a few: It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Story, National Lampoons Christmas, Charlie Browns Christmas, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Caroltmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas--the animated one.
Watching "Lethal Weapon", "Batman Returns", "Bad Santa", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Mail Order Bride", and "Silent Night, Deadly Night 2".
Merry Christmas!
Watching "Lethal Weapon", "Batman Returns", "Bad Santa", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Mail Order Bride", and "Silent Night, Deadly Night 2".
Merry Christmas!
Holiday movies to be watched definitely include Miracle on 34th Street, Santa Clause, Sound of Music, Christmas Story, Meet Me in St Louis, The Family Stone, and some others if they are on like Elf, Home For The Holidays, How The Grinch Stole Christmas ;-)
Rudolph - with the grandkids. I always watch A Christmas Carol, with George C. Scott. We always get together with friends and watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. On Christmas Eve, we usually watch A Christmas Story - "You'll shoot your eye out!" lol
For me it's a Wonderful Life and the Sound of Music (my age is showing here) For me and the kids it's Practical Magic, (I know this movie does not have a Christmas theme but we love it)Stuart Little and the first Toy Story.
What? Not even Die Hard? I'm weeping a little inside right now.
If I had one it would be: 'A Christmas Story, 1983,Peter Billingsley,Jean Shepherd, Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon.
I wish to congratulate all of the above posters for not one of us picking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
One movie? To compromise, we watch more than one. In my house growing up, there were 5 kids... Our list includes: A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Home Alone, Prancer, A Christmas Carol, Elf,The Santa Clause, Scrooged, and for whatever reason unbeknownst to me, Shrek.
I said one movie and instantly couldn't boil it down to one myself
Holiday Inn was a favorite of mine when I was a kid, as well as It's a Wonderful Life and Penny Serenade. (Penny Serenade is hard to find, but very well worth the effort! Cary Grant stars.)
We watch every Christmas movie that comes on including White Christmas, The Bishop's Wife, Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life up to Christmas Story, Polar Express and on and on.
I love the Grinch and Charlie Brown Christmas - always try to catch those on TV if I can!
My roommates and I watch Nightmare Before Christmas! It was my tradition and I pulled them into it
That's a great tradition to have. It was the only way I could get my daughter to even deal with Halloween at all.
In our house, it's not really a tradition, but we always wind up watching Christmas Story. It's just so funny we can't ever pass it up. All the time, my wife and I say, "NOT A FINGER!"
For me: It's a Wonderful Life is always a favorite, and a tradition. But, other family members: A Christmas Story and Chevy Chase in the Grizwald's Christmas Vacation.
My sister and I used to watch an old movie every year called White Christmas.
I love the traditional movies at Christmas.
White Christmas, what a great movie. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney...what a great combination of singing, dancing, acting and style. I don't watch it every year, but I just may this year. It's been a while.
None, I do not watch television at Christmas. When others put it on, I get out a book to read instead.
We don't watch movies during christmas, but the Polar Express has become a holiday favorite for pre-xmas watching.
The Grinch (with Jim Carrey), Polar Express and The Nightmare Before Christmas (good for Halloween, too).
It has to be IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, which is definitely a Christmas institution in every household, although bizarrely the movie is always on a Christmas Day when everybody (those fortunate to have company) is too busy anyway doing Christmassy things; visiing, eating, drinking....
My other favourite but little seen is THE REF' (also called 'HOSTILE HOSTAGES') and is a wonderful antidote to normal saccharine Christmas fare and is very very funny with a great comic performance by Dennis Leary.
My lifelong love of movies was engendered by my parents while watching old movies at home on Sundays and at Christmas and I now bemoan the complete lack of old movies on anytime..........where are the MARX BROS, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO, NELSON EDDY AND JEANETTE MACDONALD,LAUREL AND HARDY SEASONS?
Now unfortunately Christmas it seems is typified by the HARRY POTTER franchise, what is Christmas about that?
Whew. We have a lot! Scrooged, Christmas Vacation, A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (cartoon and live), Jingle All the Way, The Year Without a Santa Claus, Rudolph, A Christmas Story, Elf and our newest favorite "Deck the Halls" with Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick. Hilarious!
Elf is on constant play after Thanksgiving. I also always make time for A Charlie Brown Christmas

What's your favorite alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink to sip during the holidays?I think peppermint tea or a chai latte spiked with a good whiskey or rum would be great for me. Or just sipping the tea and latte without the alcohol is perfectly fine. .

Do you see a spike or a drop in your traffic during the holidays?
by The Baking Guru 13 years ago
Hi,I have a question. The traffic to my hubs was really picking up for a while up until the holidays. Then, for about the past week and a half or so, I've hardly had any traffic at all. Is that normal during the holidays? Any help would be much appreciated.Sincerely,The...
