    HARDLY!

    the Huckster:

During my tenure as governor we:
Signed legislation allowing motorists to purchase "Choose Life" license plates, with the proceeds going to crisis pregnancy centers
Signed the ban on partial-birth abortion (1997)
    Signed legislation banning human cloning
Signed the fetal protection act (1999)
Passed a Woman's Right To Know bill (informed consent for abortion, 2001)
Signed the Safe Haven Act, protecting newborns from being abandoned and killed (2001)
Signed a bill requiring parental consent for abortions for minors (2005)
Created a clearinghouse in the Department of Education for character education curricula (1997)
Issued proclamation for Month of Prayer to End Abortions
    Signed legislation banning human cloning

He's anti-Choice. Anti-Freedom. Pro state control of your private life.

I don't think he would run again... he wouldn’t be able to fulfill the full 4 years of his term if the rapture comes as he expects in 2013

Department of Education character education curricula (1997)...what is that? X-tianity?? In public schools? Umm.. Constitution anyone?
Issued proclamation for Month of Prayer to End Abortions. See above.
And, how about  praying to end war? My uterus is none of his beeswax.
Signed the ban on partial-birth abortion (1997). So, he would make a woman give birth to a dead body? Or die herself to give birth to a dead body? Nice guy...NOT.
    Signed legislation banning human cloning
    Cloning saves lives.
Passed a Woman's Right To Know bill (informed consent for abortion, 2001). What if it's her father who is the father??
Signed the fetal protection act (1999). So HE has the right to tell me what goes on in my body???
Signed the Safe Haven Act, protecting newborns from being abandoned and killed (2001) One I agree with.

Now, since I'm female and you're not...I have more of a say in these matters. One out of nine is not a good record.
Nine against my RIGHT to control my own destiny.
    Seeya!

    2013 is the rapture?
I heard October 28, 2011. He'd better get right with God sooner than he thinks!
And that means getting off Fox Evil News.

        YES I DO!

Should I make decisions on vasectomies? Decide whether you can have one or not? Having one is a form of abortion? Now that you think of it...it is!!! It is preventing life.

Your reproductive organs are the business of the State.
        How do you like that?

The behavior of citizens, particularly when it affects others, is most certainly the business of the state whether you like it or not. Many citizens are also men, whether you like it or not. Laws govern such behaviors as are being discussed here, whether you like it or not. Women do not have "more of a say" in the crafting and enforcing of laws whether you like it or not.

              1) Why?

              2) Is that the will of society as expresssed through its representatives?

              3) Would doing so or not affect another person in a harmful way?

Sorry, but "it's my body!" doesn't wash no matter how often or emotionally it is repeated.

My Cat and Palin would have been a better ticket than McCain and Palin.

Huckabee is a controversial candidate that seems to have little middle ground.  You like him or you don't. That's a divisive combination.  I don't seem him getting very far along in the next Primaries.

The best candidate doesn't always win... it's the candidate that appeals to the broadest base.  And this is one more reason why nothing positive ever seems to get done.

        I disagree.

I think this time a candidate who alienates the people into group that loves and hates him will more likely to win than an across-the-board candidate because a lot of people don't like the middle.

If the republicans are more bold and unhypocritical, more conservative people will see and vote for them, instead of having to vote for the less of both evils, who isn't necessarily a republican.

Some people who would vote for Ron Paul refused to vote for anyone else in the previous election.

      You're right Sab Oh.
MEN should have just as much say in those matters as women.  Especially the fathers of babies should have the right to know about the child and if a woman wants to abort the baby, the father should have the right to make her give birth to the child.

lovemychris is spouting her nonsense again.

      I like Huck!

"No, so but out of my private affairs. SIMPLE!"

Well, it's not that simple, really.

On religious grounds, it is. If you believe that it's a sin to abort a pregnancy, then don't do it. Simple.

              But.

When we're dealing with a pregnancy, you're dealing with two individuals. You've got the woman, who is a person with rights, and we've got the foetus, which may or may not be a person with rights.

If the foetus is a person with rights, that has certain legal implications that even most of the pro-life crowd have concerns with.

If the foetus is a person, then that foetus is a child.
A child is not allowed to do many of the things an adult is allowed to do.
Specifically, I'm thinking about the use of certain legal drugs--alcohol and tobacco. If a woman is pregnant, anything she eats, breathes, or otherwise puts into her system is going to go to the foetus as well.
So when a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, or smokes a cigarette, she is contributing to the delinquency of a minor which is a crime. Are we going to arrest a pregnant woman for taking a drink of champagne on New Year's Eve?
We also know that alcohol and tobacco contribute to birth defects, so perhaps we should also charge her with child abuse?
And what if she should get on a roller coaster in spite of the warning sign? Reckless endangerment?

Perhaps we should require pregnant women to undergo a period of "confinement" or "lying in" as we did with (upper class) women back in the day?

Of course, if we aren't prepared to do those things, perhaps protecting the life of the unborn isn't all that important after all?

Lots of uncomfortable questions complicating this issue.

I am from Arkansas and would not support Huckabee. He raises taxes. He says one thing and does another.

Remember the cop killings in Washington State? The person released from prison in Arkansas and has the 'touch of Huckabee" all over it?

There were controversies when he was Governor and we do not need more of that in the White House. And he would make his national decision based more on religion than by the U.S. Constitution. Some would like that and some would hate that.

        1. Michael Willis profile image67
Michael Willisposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Hmmm, that is a tough question Habee. I would say the person does not have to be a republican or for that matter a democrat.  I vote for the person and what they stand for and what I can research on them to see if they follow up on what they say.
If ANY candidate is a "political party candidate"...I will NOT vote for that person.  Party over Americans is wrong!!!!!!! We have had too much of that.

There is one state representative from Arkansas (And being in his district I know about him and have communicated with him) that I would vote for and support, even financially if he ran. I don't think he will run in 2012 or even if he really has aspirations for the office of Presidency.

          (personally...I rather he stayed here as out rep!}

Mike Ross (Dem.), but he is a conservative democrat WHO does listen to the people of his district. Some people may say he is closer to being a republican and at times he is a democrat. lol
What I am saying about Mike Ross....is he listens to the people who voted him in office and Then makes his decisions.
Some decisions I may agree with and some I disagree with, but...he does talk and listen to the people in his district and I respect him for that!!!!!

Huckabee is nice enough, you smile with him at his delight at having different stars on his show, but the shows are too tedious, for me, to actually watch.

Huckabee would be a very poor choice to run for the presidency again.  He is not the right person for the job.  IMO, he cost the Republicans a shot at a fair fight in the last election by his childish handling of his electoral college votes. I think he knew that Romney was the stronger candidate and the best Republican choice, and he withheld those votes from Romney quite childishly.

I think he would have been in the context of the last race.  Certainly if you were making a choice on a warm and fuzzy feeling, Huckabee would win, the comments I've scanned seem to be folks liking him because he's likeable.  I think Romney has a chance to be a contender in the next election, he's at least run that personal gauntlet already, and I think he'd see the position as a job rather than a higher calling, but I'd rather wait and see who actually steps up.  In the meantime, I do rather like the idea of a Jindall / Bachmann ticket, of those who've been in the media eye of late.

Both Huckabee and Palin have too closely affiliated themselves with Fox. This will only energize the D vote. Further, neither one of these articulate conservative political policy very well.

Those who would like to see a resurgence of conservative leadership in this country will have to realize that Obama's slipping poll numberss will NOT seal the deal in 2012. The candidates put forward must be young, full of fresh ideas and articulate. Most of all they must be truly conservative politcally.
