who begrudge Arizona to defend its borders when the Federal government clearly will not carry out its responsibilities, what do you think of the UK's cap on non-EU migration? Human rights violation? Tyranical oppression? Time to march through the streets?

Are they going to demand to see papers and proof of UK citizenship for anyone who looks like they come from anywhere else other than a EU country?

If they intend to enforce a cap on migration they will most certainly be checking the papers of anyone attempting to enter the country.

...as they should, it is only common sense to follow the laws that make sense.

I am not talking about entering the country. I am talking about authorities stopping anyone at any time to see their papers, as the Arizona law seems to be saying.

              It DOES say that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The law, which proponents and critics alike said was the broadest and strictest immigration measure in generations, would make the failure to carry immigration documents a crime and give the police broad power to detain anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. Opponents have called it an open invitation for harassment and discrimination against Hispanics regardless of their citizenship status. "

Did you notice how Wall Street is gaining in hiring while mainstreet loses? That is what this is all about, diversion of the uneducated masses into thinking that a Mexican is stealing their job while in reality Wall Street is stealing them blind.

Fine - While we all respect your opinion, would you care to add something more substantial if you are going to dispute a direct quote from the NY Times. We know you are new Sab, but that's how the citation thing works - you quote an authority. It generally works better than "because I said so". Hiding behind a Friday the 13th mask doesn't actually enhance your credability either.

I doubt it's any of those things. I'd call it common sense. Half the world seems to want to migrate here. There's only so much room, never mind financial resources. And to be really honest - I don't know why most bother, unless they're after the hand outs (EU side) that they seem to think exist. Which do exist. Judging on the fact that we house, clothe, feed, give give give to those that come cap in hand. And before anyone comes kicking butt - I'm talking about freeloaders, not genuine contribute-to-the-country folks.

My question is: why do they have to contribute to the country that is overstuffed, overloaded with things and produce, with what not; where with a little effort you can get everything including money for free? They look around and... stop working really hard! May be we should let them starve a little before giving something for free, or stop produce things  that go  to the dumpster, may be we need a little bit more planning? A little of socialism, anybody? Somebody?  You? No? Okay, go home then, your welfare check is waiting for you in the mail. And don't complain about freeloaders - it's part of the package.

No, I won't. I work hard, as do thousand, millions of others.

My sister (as an example) must stay abreast of health checks, meet exacting standards of behaviour and be morally upstanding as a means of remaining licensed in order to be employed. To earn her wage she must jump through hoops.

I know of one guy, as another (opposite) example, who is perfectly fit, perfectly capable of working into the society from which he freeloads. Instead he chooses to sit and take, take, take. No quarterly drugs tests for him, no moral expectations re his behaviour and so forth - yet he receives hundreds every month, paid for by the likes of my sister.

Just because you perceive there are excesses here you believe it is acceptable to allow people to enter the country and take what they never earned? Sorry, I don't buy into this. Things in life are not free, no matter how you slant the perspective. Excess anything is not and never was free at source. Someone somewhere paid for it. I do not and never will accept that it is ok to migrate to another country simply as a means of taking advantage of the work of others.

Freeloaders may be a part of the 'package' - but that doesn't make it any the more acceptable.

Just curious, where does he get the "hundreds every month?" What program is he on? Is he committing fraud to get the benefits? Why don't you turn him in?

Actually, I visited an elderly woman who lives a few hours from me last month, she's getting up in years, and she's ticked off that her granddaughter wants to throw out all her photos and vintage furniture as the price for her to move in -- that's your back story -- and as she rambled on, she also told me that a gal two blocks away with three kids, and a nice house, and a live-in boyfriend, who once dated one of her granddaughers, was pulling in at least $400 a month (the gal) from the 'government' and laughing all the way to the bank.

She was outraged, she is self-made,and she was Outraged at the play of the system - this has to go on and on and on - everywhere, next to you, next to me, and if you sympathize in some politic arena with this open-handed gov't support of the so-called poor and down-trodden, kind of like all abortion/theft is okay, even late term/grand larceny, as long as every one has a chance to work the system, well gee whiz, you can pay your taxes to support it -- if you pay taxes.

Way back when it went on as well, humans haven't changed, never will, but the population and the generations taught to work our system in this manner have multiplied and multiplied, and our government has done nothing but accomodate that embezzlement for years and years.  Just my opinion.

The UK cap on immigration is a political gimmick from the conservative party. Certain sections of society have been complaining about the numbers of economic migrants coming to the UK from within the EU and the number of refugees. This cap has nothing to do with dealing with those issues, it is only capping skilled workers coming to work here from non EU countries which is utterly ridiculous. It will mainly affect bankers, doctors, medical professionals, sports people, and other highly skilled people, who also happen to pay a lot of tax in the UK.

That was my argument while the health care debate was going on? Are you for or against universal health care? The reason I ask, is I am curious who you are looking after.
