It would seem that people can put their name as a hub user when they comment anonymously.
It doesn't link back to a profile, but it could be a cause for confusion.
I discovered this because someone used my name in a comment on one of my hubs with a derogatory comment.
I've seen this quite often recently. Not with my name, though. I thought those were just registered users being lazy to sign in. At least comments looked like that.
wow. that had never occurred to me.
well, if it's me you see, I'm logged in and it will come up that way, and if I'm not it's something to drax and it's 'ahemfriend' which is what I used for him before I joined Hubs and while I was on sabbatical.
so if you get an Idunns, it's not me.
Maybe Hubpages can do something about that.
"Sorry, that ID is taken," or something like that when an anonymous user tries to take a name of a hubber?
There are also hubbers spamming this way now, they type in their hubber name, and use it as a link to a direct website used for promoting products.
Now you guyz have me thinking about what kind of module might be created in the program to screen guest names. It might not be that difficult. Just do a compare to at time of post of the unregistered comment with listed Hubber names.
Seems plausible if they want to go for it, but it might create a problem for people who prefer to just type their name in when they are registered* but aren't logged in.
*edit for correction of thought
Yes, a bit of trouble for them.
If they do things like using our names to leave bad comments, as they did to Darkside, that's to be stopped, though. Linking and spamming is a nuisance, but I can ignore those.
Right now there are thousands of people writing hubs who truly want to create an income from home and they're blasting a ton of stuff that promise to deliver. What's the difference?
Please elucidate; didn't follow. Sorry. Are you saying that hubbers are also spammers?
The difference is... I have no idea what you're talking about.
You lost me too. Although I have noticed some hubbers adding a comment to the bottom of their hubs with an affiliate link in it to avoid the hubpenalty that goes with those outgoing links.
Please, Highwaystar, come back and explain! What you said went over my fuzzy head!

Is there any way at all to block an 'outside person?' There is a particular person who keeps visiting one of my hubs, and leaving a very brief comment, along the lines of 'the information useful' followed by a link to his website. The first time, he left a comment countering something I'd...

It didn't even occur to me to use a different name when signing up with HubPages. But once I was in and looked around, I realized that that was the norm. I'm just wondering why that is...

There seem to be many hubbers who have no published hubs and are still allowed to comment on other people's writing. While there are some hubbers who are simply new and asking questions before diving in, it seems that some people open accounts purely for the purposes of making comments, often nasty...

Normally, I approve 99% of all comments left on my hubs. But twice today, and once yesterday, there were comments left, all by "anonymous," that I simply denied because they were just way out of line. Not demeaning, offensive, hateful, or anything like that...just WAY off topic.In...

Hi all,Do you ever get negative comments posted on your hubs? Do you block them or put them up in the hope that stirring up some controversy is good for your hubscores?P.S. My last negative comment was from someone commenting on one of my Asian dating hubs - she obviously thought most Asians still...

I have a recent hub and a new hub that I am having problems with a crazy person I know who is posting comments under various anon identities. Is there any possible way of blocking them from my account on HubPages? The best I can do at present is keep deleting their often very rude posts.
