    You can:

    A. Follow someone.

    B. Send them a Fan Mail.

They then reply in the same way.

    You then:

    A. Un-follow them.

    B. Re-follow them.

    C. Send them a new Fan Mail.

    They then do the same.

The two parties can keep going back and forth this way indefinitely.

Of course, if each individual does this back and forth, say 20 times; they have each racked up 20 un-follows.

I’m not saying this is necessarily a good idea or a bad idea.

For instance, do we get demerits for excessive un-follows?

Also, if everybody starts doing this; it will give the HP servers a real work out. Would they be fine with that?

    Comment Away… smile

It sounds like a lot of hassle, wouldn't it be easier just to email them?

I'm with Polly. Why not email them?

If they're happy to communicate with you, wouldn't they also be be happy to either email you or you email them via the contact option on the profile?

I can't see a way this would be useful.

Actually, the Fan Mail way is much quicker, easier, and more convenient; at first anyway...  Once a trusting relationship has developed, then yep; email away! smile

I'm not sure how many people would actually do this though. Takes some thought - and the contact button is right there.

My hubpages email is different to my main email, anyway...

wooo  What difficult methods to communicate when communication is made so easy by technology... Why complicate life so much...

Some hubbers are careful to never reply to an email through HubPages contact, which would reveal their email address.

Nah. I just broadcast anything I want to say in the forums.
I'm not sophisticated (or thick skinned!) enough to handle all that un-following tongue

Using Fan Mail as a Private Communication System-

It's won't be private unless you DENY the fan mail.

Once you accept the fan mail, it's no longer private.

You send fan mails if you really have something to say about their writing or their style or contents, I wouldn't send fan mails just for the sake of sending fan mails! smile
