      It is part of the deeper question, that medium in which those with religious beliefs find common ground with atheists ... it is the same reason why so many atheists have such a strong feeling the other way ...
      
      There are two questions that we all seem to have within us, as part of the human experience ... "Is there an ultimate reality?"
      
      "If so, what is it and what is it's nature".
      
      For most of human history, the vast majority of humans have personified that ultimate reality ... OR ... that ultimate reality has revealed itself in the form of a person (depending on your view point) ...
      
      But the common question seems to be, "What is the ultimate reality?, if there is one."
      
      It's a complex question with a lot of very complex emotions surrounding it. Yet, it seems to be part of being human.
      
      My religious answer to that previous observation of reality is that mankind was uniquely created to ask that very question.

   I don't really know, but the Greeks and Romans had their day of promoting and believing the mythological gods. We look at all that as being a fanatasy, and yet many continue to believe in gods (the father, son and holy ghost) in the same way, rehearsing fantastic stories that can't seem to be possible in science or physics.
   
   We are imaginative, need to feel there is something greater than us, and that something is watching over us.
   
   When you consider the alive-ness of the universe, it seems to me there is something greater than us--the universe. Sometimes I fanatasize the universe is actually the brain of some kind of "god" and that we are simply cells alive and living in it. We are not apart from it, we are interconnected in all of it.
   
   But that's my imagination. I have no idea if it's true or not. Only that the universe is alive and supports life.

   All living creatures place their faith in someone more powerful than them and they cannot survive unless they blindly follow that person. The recipient of that faith then seeks out someone in an even higher position in order to escape from the pressure. That person then seeks out someone even more powerful that he must put his faith in. In this way all kings are born and in this way all Gods are born.

   The Need comes from a desire to make sense of the chaos. This is an existing theory on world mythology.
   
   Our brains keep on organizing information in order to better survive. At some level, we perceive this organization but since the scope is too large, we assign it to an intelligent being like ourselves only larger. We can see the similarities of predictability of nature to our deliberate habits.
   
   Naturally, we anthropomorphosize this perception of order (season, orbits, the way animals seem to know how to sustain themselves, care for their young etc)
   
   The Concept of god is a natural development in our the human psyche, otherwise it would not emerge.  Now that we are at a certain stage of human understanding, we are beginning to question the existence of an external conductor of order and are beginning to suspect that what we are a repetition of what is out there, the mechanical processes that brought about emergent intelligence--consciousness.

   Many of us lead a such a chaotic life that we do not have time to think what are we working for ,what our goals are . Only when we are hit by tragedy or when we reach a dead end were human logical thinking does not work  we stop to think what went wrong? why it happened? Is there a solution ? We are desperate to seek something that's when we start reaching out to the Supreme being ? There  are many things unanswered? If you look at daily happening like the planets do not leave their orbits..., Sun rises and sets days go by without being hindered ..if you look at nature the amazing facts we know that there is a supreme power who controls all these so it is obvious for the people who seek the purpose of their lives to get attracted to God.

    One of the most interesting questions I've come across on hub. I suspect the truth lies in the implications that come to bear upon our lives.Is there a God or is there no God. The answer (whatever it is) lays the foundation upon which we build our lives. Perhaps we all harbor an innate desire for something or someone to add validity to whatever position we have taken. Perhaps no one is really all that comfortable with the position they currently subscribe too. Perhaps we are always looking for more substance to support whatever belife we hold. Perhaps faith in our position is always accompanied by just enough doubt that the question is never ever really answered. Perhaps we really know, that whatever we believe, is the consequence of the little that we know and we harbor a hope, that someone, somewhere knows something that might alleviate the (just enough doubt) that makes us uncomfortable!
