Rewards for Writing (other than money)

There have been so many times in the past 2 years that I've been touched by a comment from either another Hubber or from our online readers.  Today is no exception.  I was reminded of how rewarding writing online can be in ways other than a Google Adsense check or Amazon check.

I'll give you a few examples.

I have a hub about overcoming losing a child.  I regularly get comments from mothers (and dad's) that are grateful to be able to read the comments from other parents who have gone through what they're going through.  Some of the them are posting just a few days after losing a child.  I know I can't erase their pain, but sharing it seems to help.

I have a hub about a devasting flood that happened in 1952 in Lynmouth England.  In a sidebar of that hub I pay tribute to the deceased by naming them.  On Mother's Day (Mothering Sunday)a young woman and her mother ran across my article and were touched that I had mentioned their mother/grandmother in my article.

I have a few hubs were I reminisce about growing up in the late 60s and early 70s, music from the 70s, and Tiger Beat magazine, and the hot lemonade my mom used to make when I was sick.  Tonight, a woman who didn't feel well was looking for a hot lemonade recipe and found my hub.  But, she got more than that.  In that same hub, I had a photo of a Dearborn gas heater like my mom has and that photo brought back memories for her of her Grandmother who passed away the day after Christmas.  She took the time to thank me for that.

Those, my fellow hubbers, are worth more than all the adsense clicks anyday.

Keep writing.  Someone needs to hear what you have to say.

That is so touching to hear that, as I am just starting out on hubpages. I always loved writing since I was a child and now I have an platform to share my experience and things I like and have learned. Thanks for the humbling story.

Kcc--I am all in with you on this one. If there was no money involved, I would probably keep writing. Writing, for me, cleanses my soul.
I look at it as the original scribes; people such as Luke, Matthew, Paul and others that probably never earned a thing, but writing in many cases endures forever.
To know that someone 500, 1000, or even 10,000 years from now could possibly read work I have penned is fascinating.
We all need to put things in perspective, yes, today's world calls for making $ in everything, and I do here., but I would still write somewhere if I didn't

    Hey KCC,

Thank you for sharing. As you already know, I write to share what I've learned. It's not about money, it's about helping people improve their life. The money is only a bonus for doing what I want to do. wink

    It's a good approach, Cagsil.

I have hubs geared towards the potential for money, but it's the one's that I'm just telling some story of my life that seem to have these special rewards.

It's a humbling experience to have touched someone deeply through what I write. Then again, I strive to make an impact on whomever has the courage to read what I write. wink smile

    Thanks for sharing ....

Like you,  I am so touched by comments/emails that I get from people sometimes sharing their problems or telling me how my hub helped them..

Even if my hub touched one person, my work here is taking the right direction, I would like to think.

I write to help bring awareness, and hopefully some hope and a little peace. I don't think I've made any money, although I have had a few comments and contacts who have told me what I've written is important. For that reason, all the trouble and tragedy in my life seems to be worth the effort, if to help ease the struggling of another.

thanks for sharing, KCC. I love when that happens. those are such personal comments. it kind of makes the world smaller, I think.

we never know who is going to find and read our hubs. I have one hub I get such a kick out of the comments.
it's a hub about a concert I went to not really knowing what to expect. it turned out to be such an awesome experience for me, so now I get these comments from Kenny Vance fans, like a little fan club.

selling something also gives a certain satisfaction knowing someone found what they wanted on one of our hubs.

keep up the great work. smile

I know what you mean.  I have a few hubs that get that. Nothing quite as deep as yours, but i've got a couple of pet hubs that get that from time to time, and I've got one on short story writing that gets really cool comments from writers and writing teachers (even the occasional request for permission to reprint it for a class, which I always approve).  That's really rewarding to me.  I even had a college student ask me once if they could quote large parts of one of my hubs (I think the cliche's one) in an essay, which was very cool.

Still waiting on the agent to discover me, but then, I suppose I probably should put sample chapters up first.  Still on the fence on that one.  Should probalby get off of there though.

LOL I know. I was down to 94 the other day.  I wonder if it's because I haven't published anything lately.

I have a Scotch Whisky hub I'm illustrating and procrastinating on, and I would write a rant about why I couldn't do something nice for two kids today because of our stupid society... but I should save that for a 30 minute hub.  I haven't done one of those for eons.  (I see you keeping the tradition alive from time to time, which I'm happy for).  Maybe I will Friday night or Saturday during the mid-morning.

Plus I got two to do for my commerical account which bores me, but does get traffic.

I really should turn notifications back on.  I got so overwhelmed for awhile.  I think I might have to switch to the daily digest and see how that does.  smile

I am trying, God's will be done!

I know that heaven is real. I have felt hugs telling me all is well.

Thanks for your hug too--they are always felt deeply, even over the internet.

I better get to bed though. Thanks my friend.

I started writing several years ago when I found out that my dad had cancer and then when he did pass away, I spent hours writing articles and two books that are still sitting in my computer, it was how I grieved and it kept my mind off of the loss.  I think that if you love to write, then this is a great platform for it and you never know what may come of it.  My writing has changed so much in the past several years and I am sure that it will continue to change as I heal. Hopefully I will get one of the books out one of these days, unless my hard drive crashes...lol
