    Hey "fundies"
    Lets challenge your "faith/idocy.
If you were offered a billion dollars (lump sum), tax free, to publicly renounce this "god thing," would ya do it?
I'm curious to see if you are as "insane" as I think ya'll are.
    Qwark   smile:
Ok, ok I'm not perfect I left an "i" out of "thing" in the question...pls forgive me!  lol

Can I get in on this offer from the other direction? I'll happily kneel down every Sunday for even a tenth of that.. I'll be lying, but so would they and I only want a hundred million.

        PC...lol ya got a point! I'd do that too...smile:
Lets see if a "fundie" would denounce for the same reason you and I would genuflect before an imagined god thing....:-)

Actually, last Sunday my Pastor told me in the basement of our church that he would denounce God if I allowed him to put his hand down my pants.
So really, some Pastors will denounce Him just for the opportunity to get their hands on young sweet tender boys, just like myself!

He said it would be in my best interests if I did, cause it would buy me one of the 141,000 seats in heaven. I'm still trying to find out where it states that in the Bible. I'll let you know if my Pastor's dream comes true.

I'd say it makes you an honest person.

It's one thing for an atheist like me to go through meaningless motions.  It's quite another to denounce a deeply held belief.

I wouldn't trust a theist who said "Yes" to that question.

Um... if you mean renounce literally "this god thing" (which seems to mean some indefinable fairy tale hero) then, yes, in a heartbeat; hand over the money, 'cause  I've already renounced that a long time ago.

But if you mean renounce the true God, nope, not in a million years or for those million dollars.

Lame ploy. Jesus was offered "All the kingdoms of the world" He turned it down. Choosing instead a wooden cross on Golgotha. Just why, in your dis-belief, would anyone do that? Maybe you doubt all of the story. Maybe you think that it is allegorical, and it's true meaning is veiled from our mortal eyes. Or, maybe you haven't considered that he was just a man, or, you have considered that. He must have been insane. OR he knew something that you all are incapable of knowing. If he could, you can. What could have possessed him? A demon? Knowledge, wisdom and logic. That is what possessed him, and possesses me too. Your hypothetical offer is hypothetically refused, so your hypothetical bank account is safe. Let me know what your hypothetical wisdom tells you about my answer. I will be waiting with bated breath as though you bring me news of my lover!smile Hypothetically, that is!

It's interesting you say that because "common wisdom" says that Jesus is the king and the world belongs to him.  Just saying...

Eternal Life is worth just a tad more than a billion $'s.

What He offers won't cost you anything.

    Will you take it?

    I didn't think so.

So, eat drink an be merry, for tomorrow you die. (to use a well known expression.)
You might as well, because, it's as good as it's ever gonna get for you.

    aka-insane. lol lol lol

I kneel down most Sundays to keep a job that will pay alimony, which seems impossible to replace at the moment.

Truth is, we do what we have to, even if we believe our employers are less than ethical, to keep our jobs. It's always a mixed bag, and there are extremely few people who will walk away from money when it will feed their family.

So we pretend we agree to certain things to keep the money flowing.

And that's the reality of life.

Nothing is impossible. We only "think" we have to do what we have to do but doesn't mean we do it just because we "think" it.  Being true to oneself has its rewards in more ways than one. Impossible then becomes possible.

I reckon the majority of people would take the money in reality. As it's only a hypothetical question, too many people will take the high road and claim their faith is stronger than that.

I think it would be an interesting test. As Simone Weil might think, those that are potentially connected to a possible God would be compelled to reject the money and keep God, it wouldnt be a matter of choice.

Astute remark Dove. Do you really think that the rate of offer acceptance could really be linked to the chances that such a bank transfer is truly possible? Those that make such empty offers don't seem to grasp that their departure from "reality" is uncharacteristic. And one could also wonder why those who seem so captivated by "imaginary beings" aren't more receptive to this "offer". Imaginary beliefs, imaginary offer. Hmmm, who would have thunk it? Maybe those who are perceived as gullible aren't as gullible as it at first seems. Explain this, and I'll reconsider the offer. How did Edgar Cayce know anything would be discovered off the coast of Bimini in 1968? Luck? Coincidence? How?
