So how do I fix this? Google hates me, and I know it.

Fix what? What's the actual problem?

  2. bgamall profile image68

The actual problem is that I don't get much traffic from Google.

You will need to be more specific. One man's "not much traffic," is another man's "OMG - I am doing so well." big_smile

        big_smile oh yeah!

Sometimes you will do better in Yahoo, they have different algorithms and your tags might work better in Yahoo.  My Google traffic is only about 5% higher than my Yahoo, and my yahoo images is even higher than them both!

I'm not bothered where my traffic comes from.

Although I was so happy to spot a traffic referral from marijuana.com

93 hubs, and only 24 visits from google in the last 24 hours. That is worse than the last month when I had fewer hubs.

Ah you getting decent back links for your articles? And have you ever used the Google Adwords Keyword tool? type in your tags and it'll show you the monthly traffic. that way you can see if there's much monthly traffic to those keywords.

        That is pretty low. sad

        What are you writing about?

When you say Google do you just mean google.com or all Google sites?  In the last 24 hours I have got 5 visitors to my 13 hubs from Google.com, although none of them are over 1 months old and some are under a week so I wouldn't expect too much traffic.  However, many of my hubs are about places in the UK and so I have got more views from UK Google.  I also generally get smaller numbers of visitors from Yahoo, Facebook, Digg and many other Google sites every day so I average about 20-30 visitors from external sources every day which for so few hubs and only being on hubpages a short length of time I find quite promising.

Thanks for responses. All google sources today for 24 hrs have been 39 visits. I started this seriously in Jan 4 and have had about 15k visitors since then. However, I am dropping from the last couple of weeks running 400-550 total visits per day to down to 200 except for the 200 or so I get from Yahoo finance bulletin boards. That is not sustainable.

And Mark, I write about sex and banks. What more interesting subjects exist than those?

As far as keywords, I am not much up on that. I do sometimes type some keywords into google to see how many visits are to those words. I have google analytics but I am not sure how to use that effectively.

93 hubs and only 29 visits from Google is quite bad considering I tend to get between 10 and 20 and that is on only 13 hubs.  I believe that Google doesn't look favourably on certain topics (such as gambling, adult etc).

Edit:  Sorry for teh repeat, was beaten by Relache.

  5. relache profile image72

Google doesn't like when you write about sex.  That's a pretty straight forward way to lose traffic from them.

  6. bgamall profile image68
    bgamallposted 15 years ago

Relache, you have no sense of humor. You are void of humor. Actually my hubs that relate to advice about sex and funny hubpage sex jokes sites (Nothing objectionable) are doing better than most of my other hubs.

    1. relache profile image72
relacheposted 15 years agoin reply to this

This has nothing to do with my sense of humor.  And I have actually looked at your Hubs.  But Google is a robot, it's a bunch of programs that scan content and most especially words.  And as soon as you use the word "sex" they start to discount you.

I'm not making this stuff up, I have friends that work for both Google and Yahoo on their actual search engine programming.  I have a decade of experience working in the adult leather/fetish/sex toy industry.  (My morals are much broader than the average Hub author thinks...)

Google doesn't care if you are making fun of sex or spoofing sex, they just won't send much traffic to those hubs and if they do, they won't serve ads to those Hubs that earn much  That's just how they operate.

Site with sex and google ads.

        To the OP:
Want more traffic from google, get more links pointing to your site/hub with the appropriate keyword anchored to it. And there's nothing wrong with sites that joke about sex, give sex tips or whatever.

Notice all the sites I have linked have a main topic, sex(sex health, how to have sex in water, sex jokes), and they all have google adsense, none of them are "discounted". Google KNOWS if your site is legit. It's the best search engine for a reason, and it can certainly tell if you're a guy talking about sex and giving sex tips from a lowly porn peddler trying to sell some sex toys/porn.

          Great finds,

You took what I said out of context.  I didn't say they won't serve ads to sites about sex, I said

      2. sunforged profile image70
sunforgedposted 15 years agoin reply to this

the obvious problem with this argument is that "sex" returns 763,000,000 results in Google- if people are searching for "sex" - google will give them results...searching for "sex with squirrels" google will give them results..Google doesnt judge..what could you possibly be yammering about? sure adsense has restrictions about adult content - but the post is about traffic from google search...and the use of the word sex, doesnt make it adult content

If the OP is seeing a decline in traffic than a) the terms are not being searched for anymore (not likely in sex! and havent seen that in my related online content b) other sites with better optimization are beating you out in search results

So if you want sustainable your going to have to put a little work into generating quality backlinks (or buying them, or paying someone to do them for you) and yep...part of that would be learning what and how to do anchor text

Hubpages has it built in but you might aw well know the simple code anyway

        anchor= <a href=

        <a href="http://hubpages.com/GoogleLovesSex ">Google Loves Sex </a>   (end of anchor)

now google will associate your link with that string of text, do this a couple hundred times- traffic and ranking will rise (very basic description)

If you guys would have taken a second to look at my hubs instead of whipping some inappropriate moral view without even looking, that would have been great.

I don't know about sex and Google cause I've not done it but I think you will find that relache makes rather a lot of money on hubpages - this is nothing to do with prudity - its business - Google is a prude (after all its a US corp! ) and they set the rules!

I don't think anyone is taking moral views, they are expressing their opinions on what Google thinks of sex topics.

    3. Marisa Wright profile image86
Marisa Wrightposted 15 years agoin reply to this

People aren't "whipping up some inappropriate moral view". As Relache said, it's Google that does that - they don't look at whether the content is humorous, light-hearted or even a serious academic treatise, they just look at the words out of context.  And it's not just the word "sex" (either in the title or in the content) it's all words related to sex.

Your hubs are fairly new - particularly in a popular niche like finance it can take 3 months or so for google to "trust" you enough to send the traffic! Patience, regrettably, is a virtue! Yahoo is quicker on this front but has a tiny % of the search traffic.

If you are in this for the money you need to be focussed on keywords which have searches but not too much competition plus you need to build anchored backlinks to your hubs - I notice you are not anchoring the links on your profile - go back and fix that now! You don't want a  link that looks like this http://hubpages.com/hub/Rank-Your-Hub-I … ch-Engines instead you want this Rank your Hub in Google You might also find this intereresting Buying Keywords

Same - in the editor of your profile page - select the words you want linked to - click the "chain" button enter the url of the hub/page you want the link to point to!

  12. bgamall profile image68
    bgamallposted 15 years ago

Fair enough Relache. But out of 93 hubs I have about 4 with sex in the title. And they are about other, high ranked, hubpages!

  13. relache profile image72
    relacheposted 15 years ago

When you say "rankings" do you mean how they rank with Google, or with HubPages?

  14. bgamall profile image68
    bgamallposted 15 years ago

Hubpages. Also the "Funny Sex" hub that promotes the hubpages on the subject, was published on 2/4 and has over 600 yahoo visites and only 15 google. But if they don't come around then ok. Hopefully it is because it is new like Liz says.

Liz that is sort of like what I read at a social services department where I worked. This unclear English was an excuse by a client for not attending an important interview:

"I have been in bed with my doctor for two weeks and it hasn't done me any good."
