The House Republicans' first major technology initiative is about to be unveiled: a push to force Internet companies to keep track of what their users are doing.

WOW! Bad idea! Wonder why the lefties didn't take action to repeal the "Patriot Act"? If they had moves like this would not be considered possible. If there was any value to the left, it was that they were "anti-war" and "anti-patriot act". Apparently it was all rhetoric to attract independents.

Wait, who are you calling the left?  There certainly were moves to repeal the Patriot Act.

Why weren't the righties and independents up in arms about that like they were about the Healthcare bill?

Fear. Thats why they weren't up in arms. However, the left had a majority for 4 years. They campaigned on the issue. They didn't deliver. Hold them accountable. It's not about right and left. What the left and right should both have in common is to be defenders of liberty.  The left had a GREAT opportunity to stand for liberty and FAILED miserably. That should not be lost in your discussion.

I'm sure your post was intended to create a dog pile of liberal jeers about the hypocracy of the right. Well, if you watch closely, the right loves to profit off of security fears. Fears that often lead to DOD/DOJ contracts. Nothing new here. The right got away with the Patriot Act and now they are taking it a step farther. Just like the left, using your example of "Healthcare". They will attempt to take the next logical step, that being a "single payer" system.

They considered repealing it but it was decided that if the country was attacked it would be polticial sucide. Not to mention the democratic party is varied with moderates, progressives, and liberals. Some are Anti War and Anti Patriot Act and some aren't.

And a party should be so varied because as a country our beliefs in governing are varied. That isn't a negative.

40% of the country wanted the so called repeal of Obamacare. So was the republican " We heard the American people and they want  no part of this Obamacare" just rhetoric.

Oops I forget 40% is a majority. The difference here is that Republicans want this information about people so they can benefit there business pals and not protect the country. Governing our country based only on what is good for business just isn't good business for personal rights and freedoms.

Hey but honestly I feel like the republicans can have there way and let's see how it goes.

"political suicide" is that why they backtracked on the war and GTMO?

Yes as a majority do not want it so if you force the issue and  something bad happens you will never be able to championing better things to fight for.

As in Gitmo- " Don't put them in my back yard" ?

Please everything isn't that simple when there are multiple wants and views.

You pick and choose your battles depending on what is going to work in the current climate. What is actually good for the country not good for polls.

You don't walk into traffic just because you have the right of way as a pedestrian.

Call it what you will. When you campaign on popular issues and then don't even attempt to deliver....well thats what I call a bunch of liars.

It's hypocritical to imply that these are actions which only one side engages in.

How about not doing in the first place.

How about speaking to your constituents about issues and presenting the facts truthfully?

Whatever I am done in the conversation. Sometimes I agree with republicans albeit rarely lately and sometimes I agree with democrats.

I am not blinded by the party ideology thing and I understand that some people are so I can see what a conversation is pointless, thanks for letting me add my two cents.

                  Adieu

Well let see, less than 50% is a majority when it comes to gay marriage, or some other liberal agenda, so why shouldn't the Republicans get the same deal on what they promote?
We have no privacy anymore.  We have cameras on street corners, cameras on the highways and at intersections, in buildings, our internet use is monitored, our phone calls, all in the name of protecting us!  Alrighty then!

And actually I am not on the left sides I am in the middle. I support some things and not others.

And that is typical left vs right garbage what you have stated friend.

Both sides don't live up to their promises and I don't always expect them  too and I am glad for it sometimes.

            Be realistic.

Cameras that protect you are different then invasion of privacy for profit. In my opinion.

And no less than 50 isn't a majority. People voted on that so you would need a majority to win.

And....They voted in their respective states. So where the majority doesn't want it, it isn't legalized. So what do you mean?

I guess these morons want to do away with the Internet. If companies are forced to track people, then people will most likely cancel their Internet services. hmm
