I don't believe that; it must be a fiction created by the sinful scribes of the Bible who hardly believed in Jesus, which is evident from the fact that they fled away from the scene of the Cross as per Bible, leaving their master to suffer alone on the Cross.

Quran does not mention this  incident. Jesus was a peaceful person.

Did Jesus whip the merchants in the temple?  Since nobody living today was there to witness, I don't see how anyone can really answer that question.  The best you will get is someone quoting a third-party description from some work of fiction, disguised as a holy book, which was writen by persons with their own adjendas of control and manipulation.

      Joh 2:15  And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

The Bible doesn't say he whipped them.

I think scourge is a whip; it is for this that some Bible version mention it :

        In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the moneychangers at their business. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers, and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; you shall not make my Father's house a house of trade." {John 2:14-16 RSV}

        http://www.pbc.org/files/messages/4177/3837.html

A scourge (from Italian scoriada, from Latin excoriare = "to flay" and corium = "skin") is a whip or lash, especially a multi-thong type used to inflict severe corporal punishment or self-mortification on the back.

I wasn't questioning whether a scourge is a whip or not.  The Bible states that Jesus made a scouge.  The Bible does not say Jesus whiped anyone with it.

[11] This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee; and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him. [12] After this he went down to Capharnaum, he and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they remained there not many days. [13] And the pasch of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. [14] And he found in the temple them that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting. [15] And when he had made, as it were, a scourge of little cords, he drove them all out of the temple, the sheep also and the oxen, and the money of the changers he poured out, and the tables he overthrew.

            http://www.drbo.org/chapter/50002.htm

Jesus made a scourge or a whip; then he drove sellers of oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting there in the temple as per Bible.

What should one understand from it? What did Jesus do with the scourge? Any one with an idea.

I don't think Jesus ever did such a thing; this is the mind of the sinful scribes at work.

According ro christian doctrine it is difficult to accept that Jesus the Christ could even attempt to do what is described ith that peice of writing.. thus they make excuses like the above..

The Truth is Christian version os sin and righteousness is vastly different from that of Jesus the christ...

For in their declaration of all as sinners according to their standard,, they forever condemn themselves....

So Sin bondage is perpetual and indefinite for christians..

I think the Christians should leave following Paul and the teachings given by the sinful scribes in the Bible. Why should they follow sinful Paul, sinful Church and the sinful scribes? If they follow sinners; they cannot come out of the sin. They should follow innocent Jesus and innocent Mary to come out of  sinning.

You talk a lot about the law yet say no one should follow the one who knew the law better than anyone else in his time.  Makes a lot of sense. . .  not really.

Why do you follow sinful Muhammad?

I would also like to know how many animal sacrifices you have made for your sins.

You are wrong in your assumption.  Jesus came to save the world, but He also knows not all want to be saved.  Of course then He knows that many will do everything they can to draw believers away.

Do you really think that believers belive Christ to be so weak that he couldn't do something to people who are evil through and through?

Since you still have no clue as to what I am saying you are like a man beating the air...

Like I said The christian concept of sin is wrong so therefore they teach men to sin rather than walk in righteousness,

that is true with you also...

For any man still unsure as to the will of God is still a sinner...

The freedom from sin comes by Spirit knowledge/Christ/Truth...
Personal  and not hand me down as they do with the bible.

Christian confess this in words but not reality....because they have no reality of these things among them...

The Quaran doesn't realy say a whole lot about the ministry of Jesus, it only refutes the biblical testimony of his divine sonship of god the father. If it were not for the Bible, Mohammed would not have even heard the name of Jesus.

It just seems to me that everyone is missing the "Real" issue here.

      The issue in the story.
The people were supposed to bring with them "Theit" first born sheep or whatever and whatever they brought to sacrifice was supposed to be blemishless.
The Moneychangers were selling just any ole sheep, etc blemish or not;  and cheating those people that came to buy.

Nothing about that situation was as it should have been.

And Too;  Jesus knew that his time had come to do that which he was sent to do.  He made a specticale in the temple to further instigate the priest into doing that which they were supposed to do.

      At least I think so.

Did he hit anyone with the whip?  I don't think he would have dad to.

That whole mockery that the people were making of a Holy day and event ..?..  That was blasphemy (sortA) in a holy place; something worse than anything that Jesus had experienced up until that time in his life.   I think!

Can any christian go into another Christian church and disturb their meeting risking injury to the people gather, destroy their property?

Would he not be considered a sinner by every other christian body including his own?

You see christian keeps a visible standard for sin while the God and His Christ has a Spiritual standard...

And the standard you make for another is he standard you set for yourself....

So I say... Indeed Jesus destroy other people property and risk injuring them on that day in the temple yet through all that he was still sinless...

[15] And when he had made, as it were, a scourge of little cords, he drove them all out of the temple

The scribe's sinful mentality is very clear; the scribe says very clearly that Jesus prepared a scourge/whip and with that he drove the people out of the temple.

Jesus was not such a person; the sinful scribe has made a fiction.

If Bible says, he did, he did.  Besides, Jesus was not beyond giving a piece of his mind. He chided his disciples when they cried in fear when the sea was rumbling. He chided them for having slept while he had been praying on Mount Sinai. He actually called Peter Satan.

And, what is wrong with all this?

  6. profile image51

This shows that the sinful scribes wrote Bible for character assassination of Jesus.

It was written centuries AFTER Jesus, whereas the Bible, (Gospels) only <100 years.

ya but you forget that bible was written by humans while quran was inspired by god...bible is human product and so have so many version...quran is universally same since it was directly from god via Gabriel via muhammad via companions of muhammad...jesus was also prophet ...but his vias were around 100 years and different version suggest that they forgot many things and wrongly thought jesus too be god ...jesus was plain human being and that is why his last prayer was for god and  he asked god to forgive those who nailed him..he didnt say i forgive them because he knew that dealer doesnot have rights of manufacturer...

On more serious notes : all books are man made...they do have knowledge in it considering vast experience of human race till time those books were written but has its limitations too...we must respect our ancestor's knowledge but considering it divine hinders our exploring abilities and gaining more knowledge...not good for coming generations...

The Bible also claims to be inspired by God.

The one (of many major) difference is that there were 66 written documents, over thousands of years, by over 40 writers, and they all have a unique common message, inspired by God.
There is a unity in these writings that is found nowhere else. All 66 documents speak about the One TRUE God.

I can't possibly see how this message can be false, and the koran true. Truth is truth, and if these two "holy" writings do not agree, they are not about/from the same source. NOR are they BOTH true at the same time.

The Bible says Jesus IS God, the koran says He was a mere man. This cannot be both ways. One is correct, and one is incorrect.

it is not Bible...it is Bibles...but there is only one Quran...one since it came into being...singular...no versions......coming to jesus being god or not god...well it is domain of faith and has little to do with truth or false and more to do with personally thought as truth or false...jesus is not god for 67% people in the world and they all are fine with it...in same way jesus is god for most christians and they are fine with it...none can say that 67% are believing in false and 33% in truth and vice versa...truth is perception out here...world existed much before jesus came into scene and world would keep existing even if all these books seize to exist...oldest scripture is veda...it is mere 3.5 k years old...known civilization is older than that...point is on not WHO ...it is faith...deity may change belief on that is what works...

The true revelation of Jesus that matters is repeated again and preserved in Quran- Word revealed by the Creator-God Allah YHWH; time is no dimension for Him; He has witnessed all the events and there is none who is a true witness except Him. He revealed it on Muhammad.

The Christians need to reform themselves.

I think this story is excellent. It shows a person who is fed up with the commercialization of religion.

Who hasn't rolled their eyes at that aspect of religion? It'd be nice to be able to act in a way that reverberates through the centuries. Unfortunately, the  moral to the story appears to have been revamped to suit the fancy of the few. Because, how do you keep selling something if you share the fact that it's free?
