Cyberspace. Is it real?

There is much debate over the "reality" of the spiritual realm. There is (a) god, there isn't. There's a heaven, or hell, or not. And so the discussions go on.

We all know what is meant by the term, cyberspace, I hope. Is it real? Does it exist?
How can one truly comprehend it? Is it similar to the spiritual? an it be compared? Is it "alive"?

    Thoughts?

One of the most valuable things about understanding the world around us is that we need not have to compare reality to fantasy when we know reality doesn't permit fantasy to exist. smile

So how does this answer my question?

It doesn't! As usual, from you.

Or are you saying that "cyberspace" is fantasy?

(fantasy exists otherwise there wouldn't be a word to define it)

      think it's a terrible analogy.

Here's one for you - a rainbow - is it real?

'cause I'm not trying to prove god is real.

God is no more real than a rainbow

                That's great!

Now, moving right along. I find it fascinating that, cyberspace does not exist, in the sense of our senses, except for sight and sound. Games are a perfect example of interaction with a software program, which also does not exist.
Yet, this combination of software, electrons, computer screens, and intelligent users, can have experiences such as anger, joy, fun, frustration, relaxation etc.

Not bad, for something that is not "real".

cyberspace is a concept describing the interaction of people via electronic means.   I can type something at this end, and people can read it and respond.  'Cyberspace' is not living.  It requires people - to sell or buy things, have an opinion, type, play games etc.

Still don't see how your analogy helps your cause for god.

"The internet" or even games are more tangible than god.  I do something and something happens.  I purchase something on-line and a parcel with what I ordered arrives.   That's more than any prayers answered.

Yes - it exists as a data transfer network comprising many millions of independent data transfer networks, IT infrastructures and other physical pieces of equipment scattered around the world to allow the data transfer.

No =- this term also applies to the abstract concept "interaction" which does not exist in physical reality.

Quite simple really - you could probably learn about it and understand it if you were not so busy selling your religion. I comprehend it thanks. Not sure why you assume that because you are incapable of understanding something - everyone else is as well. sad

Of course not. This exists in physical reality as well as conceptually - no comparison really.

It is not organically alive - but if you want to stretch the definition of "alive" conceptually - I suppose you could make an argument that it is alive in a sense. Like a "community" of people could considered "alive."

I hope this may help you learn to differentiate between reality and fantasy. Good luck learning - nice to see you trying to actually learn something instead of selling your irrational beliefs.

Ah - so you were not actually interested in a discussion about the reality of cyberspace - which I though was interesting - you just want to push your religion again. I wonder if you realize how dishonest that is? sad

This is why your religion causes so many conflicts.

You accused me of trying to "sell" something.

The fact that you do not comprehend the price you are paying does not mean there is not one to pay. sad

              Dear me. Hello.

                What price would that be?

                Onslaught from atheists like yourself?
Not too painful. Rather fun, really!

But no - that is not the price you are paying dj. You would not understand.

Of course, a religious person would ask this question or post this thread. lol lol

Always knew plenty of them had trouble distinguishing between reality and non-reality. lol

I was wondering if he had adream scape machine to sell us? I think internet is a lame tool for doing anything without all the five senses, nothing like the real thing

I'm not sure you were privy to other discussions where the meaning of what's "real" and "exist" were dissected to oblivion.

This was intended for something along those lines.

I think Cyberspace will favor spiritual non religious movement rather than it wills the Religious movement. It is already happen in America now.  Out of 400 top WE University and colleges gave a survey. It noted that 87% said they were somewhat spiritual rather than religious and 65% said they religious,

The youth will change our way of thinking soon enough. Once people realize how limited Religious thinking really is and Cyberspace provides a wider range of new ways of thinking to expand on.
