I want my traffic back

   The recent Google algo changes are almost a month old now. My traffic is still down almost 50% and earnings down almost 80%. I know Hubpages is a great site and will certainly bounce back. But I am almost tired and frustrated of having bad days in a row. I want my traffic and earnings to return. What should I do to improve my earnings and traffic?

   Word on the street is to get some backlinks to your hubs and work on building your own site while you're doing it.

   I too have heard about the backlinking thing and also that rss and news capsules should be removed. Are both good or just backlinking would do? Another thing is I have never really understood this concept of effective backlinking. Can someone explain how and where to backlinking my hubs to boost, traffic and earnings?

   Sid -- You should look for hubs written on the subject. I would say that the experts are probably Sunforged, Darkside, Mark Knowles, Peter Hoggans, Thisisoli, etc. See if they've already written on the subject.

   Here's a few tips I found
   
   1) Keywords seem to be now weighed more than backlinks. I will probably be accused to keyword spamming but it did bring the traffic back on the hub that I had with the most traffic before the "farm weeding".
   
   2) Research, research! What sort of queries are bringing up your pages? What other pages appear before you? Did you look in those pages and see how they worded their articles?
   
   3) Periodic prod with external "bookmarkers" like delicious / reddit / digg and so on. Only prod ONE hub per day, or you'll be accused of spam.

   I am just confused as to why my earnings are way down. My hubs that performed well didn't take a hit, but there are no earnings from them any more..
   
   well some took minor hits.. but nothing drastic. (have been rising, after moving amazon ads, and RSS)

         David honestly, not making hubs is kind of dumb. And  believe me I am talking more about myself. Any way you look at it, the more you do, the more you will reward yourself later, and it isn't like you ever have to come back here. But if you leave here right now with 1000 hubs, you never know how much money you will bring in. Hubpages is also doing nothing but expanding.. So they will increase your earnings as well.
         
         Imagine if you had 1000 hubs right now.. Where do you think your earnings would be at daily? Then think about years down the road, how much money could be made.

      your traffic sources have changed - loss of US based traffic means far less amazon sales and a likelihood to make much less from your adsense clicks, advertisers target by geo-location and US traffic is the best kind. Even if you keep the same click level - the value of each is probably at about 60% now, with the HP ads in effect your CTR should suffer, lowering your publisher value further (thats a made up figure)
      
      google knows how to keep kicking once your down ...if i had 1000 hubs right now, I would be figuring out how to transfer them into new niche sites and wondering why I ever ....

   I am also disappointed, but love hubpages still. I am contemplating on whether or not to start writing hubs again or not...
   
   Technically, I can still create more passive income, but the unknown is what is stopping me right now..

   Well, the positive side is that I started a new site just after Google slap, as en experiment, and it has already gone to 7 in the SERPs for the keyword I was targeting... which is a little quicker than expected.
   
   So, from what I can see, the formula good content + relevant content + organic back links = SERPs position still works.

    In the end, changes to google's alg's are designed to revolve around one thing. Quality content. Have unique, good content online, and maybe some backlinks and friends talking about it, and you should be fine.

    When is the Panda update rolling in to other countries, UK etc./ I heard skyfire said it was done already. I can't seem to see news about it, or we will never know except to monitor/see where the traffic/views are coming from?

       You can download Xerobank to check multiple regional google sites with local IP. In my testing, they're rolling update on UK. We can confirm it with ryan or susana (or SEO blogs from UK) in case if update is un-noticeably small or big like 24 Feb.
