I just signed up for an affiliate account with amazon. But I'm so new to this, I have no idea if I've done it correctly. Would some one be willing, in simple terms, to talk me through this?

Did you sign up with a username and password? Did you put Hubpages as the affiliate site? If everything is done correctly, they will give you an acct number--a name with '-20' after it. type that in in the box provided on your affiliate settings page on HP

Yes, I did enter a username, password, my Hubpages url and they gave me an account number. And I entered my account number to the hub affiliate/amazon.com box.

So is that all it takes? Does Hubpages take care of everything else?

After receiving my amazon acct. number, the amazon site kept asking questions about things I know nothing about. I tried to use the help pages on Hub and Amazon, yet I still don't understand the answers.

      Thanks for responding, Janetta.

As far as I can tell, that's all you have to do. Then you can go to Amazon to check your earnings.

To add Amazon products to your page you have to add a capsule to your hub, I think that is what you are asking?

I used to think that hubpages would automatically add amazon products that were relevant to my hubs like google's adsense. Not so! You have to add amazon capsules on your hubs if you want to advertise products to sell. It's cool because you can either hand pick them by entering in the products id number (or url) to really target your audience, or use keywords in your capsule for products that are relevant for your topic.

Sometimes, I will look up a topic under google keywords and see what type of item is the most popular with fans of that topic. I.e. Marilyn Monroe fans most often search for posters.

    Good luck!

    go to amazon.com
    scroll down,
    click on join associates ,
    sign in ,
    a page opens ,
    see left hand side
    something written like   ****** - 20
it is your amazon associates id,

    come on hubpages.com,
    click on my account
    click on affiliate settings
& write that amazone associates id on the field representing amzon.

then all thinks were done by hubpages ,
but you have to introduce a capsule while writing hub ,

or if you have already written,
    then go to your hub,
    click edit ,
    insert a amazon capsule ,
which you will find on upper right hand side.
    just click on it.
    scroll down page,
    edit amazone capsule,
    choose keywords ,
    preview results ,
if results came , then save it.

i think this will help you.
if not , anothere reply will cam from other hubber after me.

      Very good point, shreekrishna!

You can add amazon capsules, even if you've already published some hubs, so don't forget to go back and add some amazon products into your articles!

Here you go -- this should help you a bit. I pulled these links from the HubPages Guide.

Section 2.2 Managing Your Affiliate Settings

    Section 3.2 Understanding the Capsules

Also, you can now search the HubPages Guide and our entire help section by using the sweet, new search system that Larry built for us. Search just the help sections by going here.
