Child Murdered for Better Harvest

   Two men have been arrested for allegedly killing a seven-year-old girl and cutting out her liver in a ritual sacrifice to ensure a better harvest, police in central India say.
   
   A senior police officer in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh state said Lalita Tati disappeared in October and her dismembered remains were found a week later.
   
   Rajendra Narayan Das said police arrested the men last week. They told officers they killed the girl to appease their gods and get a better harvest.
   
   The men are both “tribals”, which in India refers to the region’s indigenous people. Most such people are mired in poverty and illiteracy.

   That sort of thing used to be pretty common - just check out the "Bog People" found across Europe. Must say I'm pleased to live in a culture and a time when it's a shocking crime and not a regular occurrence!

   Insanity is through out world but have that insanity show up in a faith base relationship and I have no doubt there will be those who'll want to label and blame all faiths they don't believe in.
   
   If such bias believe in faith base believers somethings wrong since we haven't had more congregation members murdered in the same fashion as those of Jim Jones followers.

   Where there is poverty, ignorance and illiteracy, superstition and funny religions are bound to thrive.
   
   But why should the Indian government allow those poor farmers who feed the nation to remain poor?
   
   The remedy for fire is fire – why don’t they kill the two murderous men in public view to appease the gods so that the people of Chhattisgarh can have a double harvest?

   Because we would be validating the very behavior we seek to condemn? Sacrificing life to perceive some greater abstract and arbitrary force (vengeance, the public?)

   IzzyM wrote a Hub about child sacrifice in Uganda.  Apparently there has been a wave of such murders there in recent years.  I don't know whether that Hub is still published; I know that she has been unpublishing some of them. It is horrific no matter where it occurs, and it is shocking that there could be any place in the world where it could occur now.
